My grandfather use to say to me..."You better not be in that back seat playing with your Jigglypuffs, now!" I'm not one to exaggerate, but I rode that trojan horse from Greco Rhodes all the way to Rhodes Road in Kalamazoo, MI.
You move me with you playing. I wish I had time to listen more. I have been fighting a lower intestine bacterial infection for just a little less than two months now. I am just now feeling like we are beating and the end of this bumpy road is near. You and about a dozen others here on UA-cam have kept me going, but I have to realize that you also fill a void in my life and are helping me reach some of my childhood dreams. I will go back to building my diatonic dulcimer-style contrabass canjo just as soon as I can stand being out in the summer heat for more than 10 minutes.
Absolutely magical, the sonic qualities of that tuning/melody remind me of the indian sitar, as well as delivering that transcendent soaring effect of high energy ragas. Your channel is basically all I've consumed for weeks now, and it continually blows my mind! Much love and thanks for sharing your gift Clifton! Happy to see your channel getting more popular by the day. Blessings 🙏❤
Awesome, just Awesome. The way you go from 2 finger then clawhammer weaving in and out between the two Dosen't get anybetter than this . Best banjo player on UA-cam . I'm trying to learn myself but doubt I'll ever get this good. Wished I lived near you .
What order do you keep repeating for the strings. That you keep repeating throughout the song. Is it 2,1,5,1 and then add in the other notes? Hope that made sense. I cant process what order you repeat that gives the claw hammer like sound ( but you pick em instead) i think it is the thumb lead patter?
Started finger picking a guitar about a year and a half ago. I feel like the banjo is more my sound...should I get a 6 string banjitar or should I just get a typical 5 string banjo. Your video of this song when you were playing your fretless on the porch is really what caught my ear n what got me to start playing 2 finger thumb lead. Love them sounds! Any advise would be much appreciated buddy. You gotta fan in Fulton County IL no doubt ✊🤘
I reckon this, gospel plow (i think thats the name) and hills of mexico are my favorites of yours. I picked up the banjo about a year ago and settled on clawhammer, but Im fascinated by the way you play. Could you recommend any people or vids to go watch on your style or similiar, or better yet do you think you might do one yourself at some point? All the best mate.

So beautiful 😍
I suspect that corked bottle on the floor helped fuel this excellent performance
Some fine picking styles Great playing!
are the five arrows pointing down to the left an anarchist shout out because that would just make my day
Love it !
Didn’t think it’s possible but you’re getting better. Cleverly and Beautifully done.
Man, that's beautiful.
I really like the brush and up pick (sic) rhythm. Gets me excited.
Thanks! That sound has excited a whole LOT of people for a LONG time! No dancer can hold their feet still when you play it like that.
This is under viewed
Great performance, Clifton Shankar!😁👍
Great job on this one bud! But of course that's no surprise!
Nice arrangement dude. Anything modal!
Thanks, I learned to play it this way from George Gibson of Knott County, Kentucky who learned it from his father, Mal Gibson, born around 1900.
Clifton Hicks 👍
