Riley, your rendition captures the soul and sorrow beautifully. It captures her version better than any other thst I have heard. I know she would approve. I have, as a young boy, heard her play it many times in her home. She was my aunt. Thank you. 🙏
Some times people forget that storytelling and musicplaying are the same. Here is a man who does both well. When you play, you tell a story, dexterity, good looks and price of instrument are not relevant - it's the story -
If you're not dextrous, and your playing isn't interesting, or your instrument isn't high enough quality to sound in tune, then you won't have many to listen to your story. Of course, a pure story is what matters most, but even the greatest chef can't cook much without good ingredients and good tools
my favorite version of this song, amazing performance. To save people who came here for the same reason i did some confusion: Tuning is gEADE , easiest way to do this is to put your banjo in a sawmill and then put a capo on the second fret, leave drone string open. Alternatively, you can put your banjo in sawmill and tune the drone down to F to play a lowered version. if you play to play along to this recording Riley is flat about 1/4 step.
Over yonder in the graveyard Where the wild, wild flowers grow There they laid my own true lover She'd gone from me, forever more Fairer than the sweetest flower Restless as the wildest way Pored in with love deep as a ocean This is the girl that I did win I left her there back in the mountain To see the world riches to gain Oh, when I returned no earthy treasure Could ease this heart so filled with pain They saw high above the mountain Beneath that little mound of clay The girl that I returned to marry So stand a mound of flowers did lay I'll go lay you down and wonder Lay aside my earthy gain All I am undone in riches Undone in sorrow I'll remain Undone in sorrow I'll remain
My mom's family comes from Ashe County or more specifically Pond Mountain. My papaw and mamaw's last name is spelled Bauguess Though. Wondering if we kin. Samuel and Della are their names. Sam passed away years ago but mamaw still kickin
Your playing is really cool, Riley. Try to lose some of that weight for your health's sake. Try a diet of salad, collard greens, and tuna fish. Drink a glass of apple cider vinegar each day. I just don't want your life to be shortened by weight, because we would lose a very talented man.
I'm drunk as all hell and I'm crying. Thank you Riley.
Sober yet?😄🍺🍻🍻

Wow, absolutely beautiful rendition. I'm sure Ola Belle would love it 👌

You can also put your banjo in a standard G modal being GDGCD and play it the same

Riley is one heck of a fine performer. Very nice & tasteful tune.
I like his patter too. He even cracks a joke at his own expense about his wife.
That teared me up just gonna say it..just beautiful
One of my favorite songs. I have all her CDs. She was amazing.
And you did a wonderful performance. I play this song every time I play out.

Hi Cuz I listen to this song all the time.
Damn one of the finest renditions of this tune I heard before, thanks brother.
“We’re related but Im not sure if it’s by blood or by marriage or both”
This guys an animal lmao
Wonderful, great talent.
Over yonder in the graveyard
Where the wild, wild flowers grow
There they laid my own true lover
She'd gone from me, forever more
Fairer than the sweetest flower
Restless as the wildest way
Pored in with love deep as a ocean
This is the girl that I did win
I left her there back in the mountain
To see the world riches to gain
Oh, when I returned no earthy treasure
Could ease this heart so filled with pain
They saw high above the mountain
Beneath that little mound of clay
The girl that I returned to marry
So stand a mound of flowers did lay
I'll go lay you down and wonder
Lay aside my earthy gain
All I am undone in riches
Undone in sorrow I'll remain
Undone in sorrow I'll remain
Looks like a fun tune to play, will give it a try!
Love this Guy ...
Thank you for this
Damn it this is so good.

Awesome ! Do someone have the model of this banjo ? He sounds awesome too
Thanks from FR
Dan from Letterkenny?
Sounds very similar to Hills of Mexico
❤💯
Ola Belle!
I noticed your banjer bridge is very thin. Is this the type you prefer, or is just a bridge you happen to put on?
This would be his preferred setup.
Beaut
As a bog irish I'm having that blood marriage joke
what kind of banjo is that?
+Triston Nichols One of his own builds!
I wasn`t shocked more people didn`t laugh at the inbred joke.. Seems to many people these days are to uptight !!!!
Well the type of people the joke makes fun of aren't the type of people who are snowflakes and take offense to everything. That's the other side.
Plenty of people laughed at it. Stop being triggered that not enough people laughed at the incest joke lol.
