Missed target was very small drone they have low radar cross section and samar surface to air missile is converted from old russian technology air to air missile. Samar is best against big target aircraft like fighter jet & big missile.

The motto behind the juggad is Better to fire it against an enemy and trouble the enemy, .If it hits the enemy fine and if it misses the enemy then an junk has been expended against an enemy rather than allowing it to rest in an scrap yard. Also one should remember this samar system would not operate alone but in tandem with, igla ,vshorad, akash, spyder, tunguska, Lrsam, mrsam, s-400 etc.
Samar has been built from older r-73 and r-27 which was procured in 1980's and 1990 which is at the end of it's service life.
Developing an entire New Systems/Missiles is not an easy task and specially when your enemies are developing at such a fast pace. You have to get sufficient funding and Man power to bring it to existence. So it makes sense to re-work what you already have and enhance the capabilities of an existing Missile/Systems.

Juggad is actually a temporary solution for a problem but not a complete fix. How can you manage to record the full parameters and what. Will the enemy keep quiet. The moment you fire a test missile, immediately there will be a counter attack. It would be the most foolish approach from a Defence perspective.
@@SiddharthaKS1983 juggad in the sense, choice was either not to use it in the air to air missile mode which was not possible to use because of the service life issues or use them in an surface to air mode in conjuction with other ground based air defence system.
This will be great as R-27 T/ET uses Imaging Infrared.
Also Yemeni Houthis had shot down a Saudi F-15 using ground launched R-27 T.
Haan ab houthi se hi defense inport krle IAF, itni aukaat banadi hai Bharat ki.

Why we always play defensive and justify our failure in name of old tech. Suppose, if we get attacked on important location and this system is tasked with providing air protection and hypothetically just like what happened in vayu sakti it failed to engage any of attacking aircraft and near missed them then whi would to blame for damage?? We know that this is effective against larger aircraft but keep in mind that no aircraft will need to be close to target when you have stand off weapons in this era and SAMAR can't acquire lock without fire control radar to that distance. Will this be effective against standoff bombs , when it can't even detect larger dummy aircraft on which actually it got clearance to be inducted??
Sir, Like BVR Astra missiles, are we working on any Indigenous WVR missile or are going to remain dependent on Python5, Mica and Asraam??
Asraam is now completely made in India that's why no work in this field yet. Maybe in future. We had longer range missiles as first priority.

A bit of an immature question but the reason is that it has a ramjet motor so you will also have to add air intakes so it looks bulky.

Why not use Astra mk1 missiles instead, just like the US 🇺🇸 has the NASAM which uses the AMRAAM missiles and how Israel 🇮🇱 has the Spyder system that uses python missiles. We can have a better air defense system that's also cost effective and brings down the costs of the astra missile.

Bomb dropped by Tejas had delay detonation so to first penetrate deep and then explode to make as much destruction as possible, if you will watch the complete video, you will get to know this. And Akash successfully downed its target.
