I bought mine brand new back in 2009 and its still my daily vehicle today, 14 years later. Definitely reliable although I have been doing engine oil and filter changes every 5,000 kms with synthetic oil, which I admit is a little excessive 🙂
The 200 is my favourite of the Land Cruisers and this is never gonna change. This is exactly how I have the Land Cruiser in my mind. Large, hefty and with this great big, understressed NA V8 engine, it gives you a feel of certainty and serenity. The Twin-Turbo 3.5 V6 should never have been out in the first place.
2008 is retro! We are literally in the future. Still I do see why Toyota decided of getting rid of the Land Cruiser in the US due to market closely related the LX Lexus. Still these baby’s are on the road true and strong. The new LC is now just based on the GX now basically

So, the GX was always based on the light-duty Land Cruiser, and the LX is based on the Station wagon Land Cruiser.

when i sold mine HDJ100 in 2008 and bougth LC200 i was afraid, then in 2013 ( facelift ) i change again. sinse 2013 i still keep same 4.5 Turbo Diesel. im quite "tired" to change oil, filter, brake pads and tires ( batery once as well ). this car simple do not let me make friends at workshops. the best off roader in the world.

It’s sad how we will never see a high quality large V8 REAL SUV like this again. Sales were so small each year it is a miracle they kept it around as long as they did. A good one of these is the one to buy over any new SUV from Toyota today. The weak point is head gasket failure from acidic coolant. Flush it every 2 years just as overkill and you should be okay.
Really odd that Americans never got the 4.5v8 twin turbo DSL we got here in Australia, 4.7v8 petrol here was not as popular, the 200 v8 DSL only stopped production in 2023 and sold thousands here .
Those are amazing and will last another 20 plus years. The new 4cyl junk version will be glad if it makes 10 years without tons of break downs. Toyota has really screwed up in the truck division the last few years. Toyota needs to get their heads on straight and fast!!

One of the last generation Land Cruisers with a V8 engine. Now, the current 4 cylinder hybrid isn't selling well. Toyota should have kept the three-row design and use the V6-turbo or V6 hybrid.

They are king of the hill but Toyota has been known to imitate. They’ve even gotten sued for it. Land cruisers were originally called jeeps til Jeep sued them. Then ford threatened to sue when they tried to name the tundra the T-150. And the LS430 looks a lot like the Mercedes W140.
The FJ50 was an SJ Wagoneer imitator designed in the mid 60s and FJ60 of 1980, Series 1 Range Rover copy designed until 1977. 80-Series of 1990 was the most original Land Cruiser design up until the 200. 1985 70 Series designers copied Mitsubishi and Isuzu in 1981-82. Followed by the 1996 90 Series designers doing the same thing in 1993 and 1998 100 Series designers marrying Mitsubishi Pajero design elements to P38A Range Rover styling (J100 design was finalized in summer 1994). The 120 Series designers copied Mitsubishi Pajero again in 1999-2000, albeit more subtle this time. This for once didn’t copy Land Rover.
There is a dealership in Toronto that is selling a trio of JDM Land Cruiser RHD imports for cheap. 2007/2008 models with the 2.7 and the 3.4 inline 4 and V6 engines. Those are the ones I love and dream of.

This is a good time for a reality check visit with the recently departed 'legend'. We can take the opportunity to remind ourselves these luxury Land Cruisers sold in minute numbers. In their own documents, Toyota refers to the 200 Series and 300 Series as station wagons. The real Land Cruiser is the 70 Series. 😉😉 😛
Despite the 70 series being the most that stuck to the Land Cruiser's original heavy-duty roots, all 3 members are worthy of the Land Cruiser name. The heavy-duty, station wagon, and light-duty. The other two blend on-road comfort with the off-road capability.

My comment was intended to launch a preemptive strike against all the whining I have been hearing since the more affordable, "not a real Land Cruiser" 250 series Prado came to our market. My favourite Land Cruiser of recent years is the 150 Series Prado which ended production for 2023. In particular, the 2 door Prado equipped with the hale and hearty 2TR-FE engine in manual or automatic offered the best compromise between off-road ability and civility. I am still holding out hope the 250 Series Prado will carry on the 2 door tradition of the last few decades. 🤞🤞 After all, Wrangler, Bronco and Defender all sell 2 door models. 😁

I also love the 3-door short wheelbase one, but I wish it came with the 1GR-FE V6, too. It's a shame the 250 didn't come with a 3-door version.

Such a shame Toyota didn’t offer non-luxury trim versions. It was basically a Lexus with a Highlander looking body. Nobody paid Lexus prices for that.
