  • William Heimdal, or “Prince William” as his master has nicknamed him, swapped comic books for the old masters in his mid teens. Chiefly inspired by Odd Nerdrum’s work, and having studied for a period with his son, Öde, Heimdal’s work has already reached an impressive quality.
An original member of the Memorosa Group, Heimdal follows strict dogma that forbids him from using photos as well as blue and green pigments. He works from live model, and aims at crafting stories instead of pictures. To see it for myself, I attend an hour long session with Heimdal to witness the benefits of a constrained approach.

What is the small hand mirror for?

The masters used a mirror to better see the imperfections of the drawing/painting, it gives you a diferent perception of what you re working on. The same applies if you turn your canvas/paper upside down.

Why exclude green and blue pigments? What's the reasoning?

William Heimdal is using the limited palette called "the Apelles Palette".

the pain they go through by not using resourceful materials, like photos, this means prince "Willy" here had to still hard for weeks for painting himself.. that's impressive

@@jockospillink7318 Well then, fill me in. It's a school, not a traditional one. (if you're accepted). You're provided housing, food and everything. All you gotta do is represent them. And well you live in the outdoors with awesome landscape (I think?). What are the cons?

@@Thesamurai1999 sounds fun! Do you personally know anyone who has studied with him? What are the qualifications to be accepted? Is there electricity? I’m suggesting that Marshy might have put it better: “I hope to study with Mr. Nerdrum, because______.”
