  • Hi guys/gals, I have uploaded this video for my dad with his hopes of saving y'all some money and a headache. This "sensor kit" was discovered after we had replaced the power steering control module and motor and it did not fix the problem.
    Here is a link to the video that was mentioned:
    • Chevy Malibu / Pontiac...
    Also in case you do not have a pen and paper handy, the GM part number for the torque sensor is 23232310
    Here is a link to one of the places to purchase the sensor:

    I have a Pontiac G6 2009 and the ESC light and power steering warnings come on. If I turn my car on and off it usually fixes the issue. Is this the problem? The torque sensor? And if so would a shop be Able to replace just the sensor or does it Half to be in an assembly with a new rack and pinion

      A defective steering angle sensor is indicated by the Traction Control Light turning on and needing Steering Torque Sensor also for the Power Steering Warning on Radio Info Screen.

    I was driving my 08 G6 and the Power steering came on so some days later the light stayed on and it was very difficult to drive. I made it to my destination. I let it sit for 1hr and It drove fine and the power steering didnt come back on. Any idea???

    Hey Christopher, John here, its a 90% chance the torque sensor is bad. The only way to be absolutely sure is to hook up a scan tool and query the voltage of the sensor. But this is exactly how my friends was acting. He bought a motor and it didn’t fix it. That’s how we got to the sensor. And the reason I made the video. Gm has got a huge racket going on this. They should fix it for you but I bet they won’t. It’s not a huge deal to change but I will warn you , your going to need a large pair of snap ring pliers cause the ring they have holding that tube on is gigantic!!

      John Fenoglio awesome thanks for the help my man. I think I’ll probably order the sensor, it sounds like that’s the main culprit most of the time. Hopefully for $150 for the sensor and another little bit to have a shop calibrate my sensor that I will be back in the game if Pontiac decides to really play hardball and refuse to fix it. Yes you are right, they are up a creek with no paddle but hey, guess they didn’t go out of business for no reason. Probably why they are deciding not to fix mine.

      Hey John real quick question here. Replaced everything and seems to be working fine now after replacing that torque sensor. Thanks a bunch. Only thing is that it feels just a little bit easier to turn to the left than the right. It’s not that bad, but does that mean I should have the system recalibrated?

    we have a 2006 g6 that the steering just started to go whacky
    can we still take it to a gm dealer and get it fixed for free?
    can the sensor be replaced easily?

    Hey John great video I’m going through the same thing. My car says “power steering” and “service ESC” (stability control). Would that be the same as what yours was saying? I watched that other video and this looks doable, better than spending a grand or more at the dealer I’m sure on a car only worth a couple thousand to begin with. My power steering will like reset itself after turning the car on and off, I really hope it’s only this sensor. My car was doing a shaking steering wheel when turning to the right the last couple months before it went out. Please let me know what you think.
    Funny thing is that I called my dealer and they said there is a special bulletin for my year and VIN, saying that they would replace the parts for up to 10 years or 150k whichever comes first. So I think, great, except my car has 150,200 miles and they say they can’t do anything even though I’ve been having problems with it for a couple thousand miles now. Still fighting with them bc I think I have a case and they are just being deliberately rude.

    There is a recall bulletin that address this problem. It covers a number of GM vehicles with this torque sensor part number.
    static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2014/RCRIT-14V153-8725.pdf
    Unfortunately GM stated my VIN is not covered, even though its a 2009 Pontiac G6.
    Looks like GM made a how to video but isn't available to the general masses :(

    What if you lose power steering and it just says power steering, nothing else. If you turn the car off for a minute or so and start it back up the power steering works again! Is that the power steering assist motor module?

    • @tjf9948
      @tjf9948  4 роки тому

      I would change the sensor first and have it calibrated. If that doesn't fix it then change the module

      @johninjersey 4 роки тому

      @@brycelocke7325 Way too much! First they replaced the power steering assist motor and module which was an $700 bill. But a week later it happened again. This time it was the torque sensor. They replaced the steering column this time. Just picked it up yesterday. Another $500 bill. Of course, its not likely both were the problem but you're stuck. They cant put your old part back. That was returned for the CORE charge. So it cost me $1200 total :( It damn sure better be fixed now. The steering column replacement has a lifetime warranty
