Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) were one of the most formidable rhythm section in the history of music. They knew how to swing, a very unusual sound for rock at the time
And, hey.. Well done for expanding your musical horizon and opening your mind to what has to be one of the greatest genres of music of all time. Welcome to the world of Rock 🪨 🎸 ❤❤
@Old Crow ---Ward *might* have been as good as Bonham.. maybe. He is Top 10 in my book. Black Sabbath albums had terrible management and screwed the band over. The band also had terrible production. Zeppelin are still kings with more range and diversity but Sabbath was also very good..
Headphones, baby. Headphones. Cranked up. And about 2 hours later I was temporarily dead for half a day but all in my head the music don't want to share any of that beautiful sound and kept me from getting yelled at. long time ago long time ago. Now I just have to worry about whether or not the granddaughter is sleeping hahaha
Fun fact, the guitarist, Tonni Iommi had two or three finger tips removed on his feet hand in a industrial metal factory while the band was coming up. He made his own prosthetic finger tips and retaught himself to play.
I suppose you mean hand. Thats why i he had his guitar strings so loose tightened and had that special sound that has been gimiked by so many other bands.
Terry 'Geezer' Butler, good Irish Catholic lad, lyricist, and guitarist turned bassist. A defining feature of their sound. Even gets his own intro piece on 'N.I.B'.
Listened to this while in the Navy and at sea off the coast of Vietnam in 1971. Would get high on weed, or hash when listening to Black Sabbath this was during the Vietnam War. Helped us (shipmates) keep our sanity and humanity.
Bill Ward on Drums, Geezer Butler on Bass and Tony Iommi on guitar!! GOATs! When I listen to this, so do my neighbors! Suggestion: Alterbridge "Blackbird" live
Great reaction.Everything about this live performance is perfect. In 1969 this is how you did a live show. Sing and play your ass off. Beat the drums like they owe you money.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
I actually have 2 tickets to see Ozzy and was NOT able to see him either time!!!! One ticket was to Ozzfest in Atlanta and the other was to see him in Tampa! And my best friend has one as well to Ozzfest. It really SUCKS that I've had 2 tickets in my hands and didn't make it either time. But yeah I've jammed to Ozzy my .whole life in one way or aother lol!
Bill Ward-drums, Geezer Butler-bass, Tommy Iommi-guitar. Definitely one of their top songs. Crazy thing about the guitarist, he got 2 fingertips cut off at work. Check out the story. Appreciate ya RDiss! #ROMSQUAD #saucy
Bill Ward was the drummer. One of the greats! And fun fact: Bill Ward and Bonzo(John Bonham from Led Zep) were born 26 days apart in two small towns very close together in the UK. What are the odds that two of the best drummers of all times were born at the same time in almost the same place? Cool
Ozzy - vocals, Tony Iommi - guitar, Bill Ward - drums and Geezer Butler - bass. Reminds me of sneaking downstairs to my older brothers room to listen to his albums. Good Times. Ozzy was a beast back in the day, lol. Hand Of Doom is a good Sabbath tune. ✌❤🤘
They were still experimenting with a few of the lyrics here. This is somewhere in Paris in 1970. Ozzy was 20 or 21. Tony Iomni (guitarist) cut the tips of 2 of his fingertips off the last day he worked in a factory. Doctors told him he'd never play again. He created prosthetic fingertips for himself because he wasn't willing to give up music and they'd just formed Black Sabbath
What you say does matter. I love watching your generation learn from mine. Bass and drums always hold songs together. You just don’t notice. Chris Squire of Yes is GOAT!
And you’re damn right - Geezer Butler’s amazing bass playing holding it all together on the low end man. Damn straight. Respect to the bass players.(And John Paul Jones with Zep) RDiss, Tony Iommi the guitar player lost the tips of middle and ring fingers of his left hand working in a sheet metal factory, when he was 17. But you couldn’t stop him 🤘🏼🎸 Literally 🤘🏼, know what I’m sayin’
I was lucky when i got to see Black Sabbath reunion concert in New York 1999. I was only 18. i still cant forget that. They are the grandfather of metal and a pioneer. I would suggest please react to iron Maiden. They are hands down one of the, if not THE best live band to watch. Their catalog is ridiculously huge and they are one of the most influential metal band of all time. I suggest The Clansman live at Rock in RIO 2001. Hallowed be Thy Name is likely their most famous song. You can literally pick any songs from any of their live concert and it will blow you away. Up The Irons
I love watching you love these songs we have loved for years!!! Another one you should listen to is Judas Priest "you got another thing coming". Good anthem song!
Those drums were hitting me in the spine in the middle section. When you listen to rock, that's the function of the bass in a lot of ways, it's like the translator from the drums rhythm to the guitars pitch. Hey, I'm seeing people put the title in block letters over the video when it's an official vid to partially obscure it, might work.
I think one mic is for the crowd and other for the recording. Bill slides in and out of tempo while watching Toni. Just like Bonom and Page and Vinnie And Dime. R.I.P
Tony Iommi [eye-oh-me] on guitar Bill Ward on drums Geezer Butler on Bass & of course Ozzy spazzin on the mic ... And thanks for showing respect to that Bass ... A lot of ppl overlook the bass. Respect man. Great reaction. 🤘😁👍
Their second album (a UK No.1 in the days when that was plausible) was going to be called 'War Pigs' until they had a hit single and so they named it after the single. It's a good job that didn't set a precedent, because they were never going to be churning out happy-go-lucky pop tunes on a regular basis. Apparently this track got feedback from Vietnam vets... I wonder why?...
I have heard a lot of reactions to this live version. You are the first to bring up Geezer Butler's bass playing and you are right!! But Bill Wards drumming was out of this world! Henry Rollins said and look it up, best ryhthm section ever!!
Haha...tied with The Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again' from the Live at Leeds album....And Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer's version of Jumpin Jack Flash on the Johnny Winter 'and Live album ( greatest cover ever imo lol)
You're called it. The bass is the foundation and glue for every song. Bands without bassists will have keys to play the bass cords to simulate the role of the bass but they lack groove.
Recently sub'd & have been stuck here ever since checking out various videos. Love what your doing & there's a good mix of artist on here. If i could make a suggestion tho, it'd definitely be nice to see PANTERA added. These guys are on the heavy side but i believe they would blend well on the channel, could also be useful in your "workout playlist"
Yo RDiss, I’m digging your reactions and your video skills. So glad you got into this and acknowledge Bill Ward’s f*kn beastly drumming - he so often was overshadowed by Ozzy & Tony. But look at him- he flipped the drumsticks around so could bash ‘em with the heavy end!! When you got time you gotta check out Rage Against the Machine & follow up band Prophets of Rage - you’ll dig Zach de la 🎤Rocha, no doubt. 🤘🏼
I first heard Black Sabbath at the tender age of 12. My older sister bought this album and wanted to test me on how I would react to the song Iron Man... She turned out the lights and it blasted some freaky sounds and then you hear in a demonic Robot voice "I am IRON MAN!!!!!! 👿 then I'm screaming Mmmoooom!!!! But not too many years later I changed my mind. I loved them! Nothing like a keg party with Black Sabbath playing 😎😆🍀
Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) were one of the most formidable rhythm section in the history of music. They knew how to swing, a very unusual sound for rock at the time
Because Ward grew up listening to big band swing music
Bill Ward was a true beast and Geezer is still in my top 5 til my dying day, lol.
John Bonham and John Paul Jones.
And, hey.. Well done for expanding your musical horizon and opening your mind to what has to be one of the greatest genres of music of all time. Welcome to the world of Rock 🪨 🎸 ❤❤
I think the drums use to cry when they saw Bill walk on the stage Hes a beast
For Real Thou 😁🎶🎧
Totally!
Big facts
Bill Ward doesn't play drums, he beat drums...
@Thomas Na
Yes. I’m old. I saw black sabbath in 1970. Concerts were new and not the same anymore. It was a happening back then.
Yes I'm old too. I was 18 in 1970. You were so lucky to get to see them
Lights went down and everyone would light up.
Hard to believe how great so many of these old groups were considering the lack of technology then. True artists!!
3 instruments, one voice and some lights and you get this. Always amazed
Is the lack of technology and the human element that make them great. It's that human element that touches people. A digital program can't do it.
Bill Ward was an incredibly underrated drummer.
@Old Crow ---Ward *might* have been as good as Bonham.. maybe. He is Top 10 in my book. Black Sabbath albums had terrible management and screwed the band over. The band also had terrible production. Zeppelin are still kings with more range and diversity but Sabbath was also very good..

The drums are insane, bill ward is very underrated
He’s not underrated, he’s a legend
@@pcpunksfuckoff8178 Nah he’s underrated
Yep..him and Ginger Baker. Waay underrated.

What the fuck is a foot hand? 😂😂
@@KissMyFatAxe lol fret hand
That sounds fun!

Love your reaction to Bill Ward - he's ferocious & mesmerizing
Terry 'Geezer' Butler, good Irish Catholic lad, lyricist, and guitarist turned bassist. A defining feature of their sound. Even gets his own intro piece on 'N.I.B'.
Na
Ozzy of course changes the lyrics from the album version.
Black Sabbaths line up in 1970: Ozzy Osbourne singer, Tony Iomni lead guitar, Bill Ward, drums and Geezer Butler on bass. They are also British
This song is as relevant today as it was back then. Good choice man! I keep coming back to your vids.
Yes he did it 😁bill ward is insane his drumming has this funky vibe to them I love it
One of the most underrated drummers
Agreed. He's on par with Bonzo imo. He doesn't get the same amount of recognition. Absolutely solid drummer 🙌
@@KissMyFatAxe amen
Bill is the TRUTH, the whole truth and nothing but the TRUTH!!!!!!
Best comment I've read about this performance was "Bill Ward beat those drums like they owed him money", still cracks me up, lol!
My first concert 1977, Black Sabbath, Van Halen and Ted Nugent opened. U really listen to Hand of Doom and N. I. B. ✌
Glad you took my suggestion to do the live version. Geezer Butler on bass and he wrote all the lyrics too.
Drum kits still hide in fear at the mere mention of the name Bill Ward...
Listened to this while in the Navy and at sea off the coast of Vietnam in 1971. Would get high on weed, or hash when listening to Black Sabbath this was during the Vietnam War. Helped us (shipmates) keep our sanity and humanity.
Dude you only scratched the surface of great 60’s and 70’s music. 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bill Ward on Drums, Geezer Butler on Bass and Tony Iommi on guitar!! GOATs! When I listen to this, so do my neighbors!

Great Metal never dies. Great ones fam.
Youve good character and style. Keep it up.
Have u reviewed Child In Time by Deep Purple yet ?
Props to you for giving bassist Geezer Butler his due - he was also Sabbath's primary lyricist.
Baby face ozzy 🥰
Hard to remember being that young!👵
Bill Ward beats those drums like they owe him money. Whenever I listen to Sabbath so do my neighbors
what you're witnessing here is the start of heavy metal
Bullet proof drums that’s hysterical
It is good you picked this live video, for it is truly the birth of metal and all that is heavy! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻
One of the greatest war protests song of all time
I've been a sabbath fan since I first heard there music in1971still mesmerising just great
After this song all the instruments had to have a cigarette,,

There was a saying that Wards drums had to go to hospital, if not the morgue, after each show. Sabbath, all 4 musicians- incredible!!
They were still experimenting with a few of the lyrics here. This is somewhere in Paris in 1970. Ozzy was 20 or 21. First heard Ozzy at 15 at a 2 day outdoor music festival. It was hot people were trying to trade pot and beer for water pbj sandwiches.
Oh yes the good old days! Lol I remember them well Texas Jam 1982.
Black Sabbath the birth of "Metal", Ozzy was a maniac!!! I love them!! Listen to "Paranoid" if you haven't already or "Iron Man"...
