Honda Grom Hits The Race Track

- I finally get the Grom out on the track! With it fresh out of the paint booth, I was hesitant to really push, but it was an amazingly fun day regardless of lap times! My buddy Ron and I mixed it up a tad, putting both the Grom and KX65 through their paces!! At some point, I find the limit on the KX65 and throw it down the track... making this one of the most memorable track days ever!
The Grom is the PERFECT Track Day weapon! Get out there and do this! You wont regret it!
For $20 - this is possibly the best $$/Fun ratio on the planet! If you're ever in Tulsa, OK you've gotta check this place out: / jrpspeedway

Looks like pure fun. Maximum fun and maximum safely. Proof smaller bikes can be piles of fun
That is such a good point!!! It really is! I went down at like 60mph and literally just laughed it off. If that was my big bike... could have been a completely different story! Thank you for the comment and for the support!!
I hear what your saying! I too found the greatest place in the world and road my small bore around it. My life has become complete and will continue to do so as long as I am able.
That's so awesome!!! Where's your track?
Great video man! What class is your Grom in and what kind of mods are allowed in the class?
I bought it to race the single mini race during the CMRA race weekends. The Grom has its own class called the Grom Challenge... unfortunately no internal performance mods are allowed. Exhaust & intake are the only mods allowed, outside of suspension... This year they allowed for flash tunes, but I haven't pulled the trigger on a tune just yet. Chances of anyone knowing or caring for that matter are slim, but im gonna play by the rules for now 🤣. That is until these 70lb kids start lapping me!
@@TonyGenerali I'd get in contact with Cameron Jones for a flash tune, dude is a wizard with a Dyno. I'd there are no limits on tires, PMT slicks are a game changer. A 14t or 13t countershaft sprocket makes a huge difference too.
@@dyi01 yeah man. Tires made a huge difference in confidence. Went from a set of Dunlop tt93s to a set of Mitas mc35s. World of difference. The PMTs seem to be harder to get... so i just went with what was available.
Unfortunately gearing has to be stock too. Lol. I think their idea with the Grom challenge was to reduce bike builds to increase talent of the kids coming through the ranks... but all the kids who are going to be FAST are on the ohvales now... leaving the old dudes running around on the groms.
The audio is on point too! Did you have a separate microphone for your voice and bike?
I'm running the so-called "optimum motovlog setup" based on what youtube says. It's the Gopro Hero8 with Gopro mic adapter... the mic adapter is kind of a pain for the hero8 as you have to remove the battery door, leaving the battery exposed to the elements... there is an aftermarket door that you can buy to keep it all situated, but I haven't picked it up yet... anyway, I've got the purple panda mic plugged into that. Mic is run into my helmet with a dead cat, it picks up both me and the bike perfectly!!!
Tony Generali Ahh I see! Maybe it has to do with the levels I set then. Do you have your visor open for it to pick up the sound of your bike as well?
Nope. Visor down. It's amazing how well the mic separates my audio from the bike!!
what the best tire for racing in tracks ?and size and tire presure?
There are a ton of good options. I'd say the best option is probably the PMT slick. They're pricey, but have ridiculous grip. The dunlop tt93, kinda kwick, mitas, pirelli... all good options.. Sizes can range, I have a 100/90 front and a 120/80 rear, in the Dunlop tt93 race tire. Size depends on what's available in the specific tire. 100-120 for the front 120-130 for the rear. Pressure is going to change based on track and ambient temperature. I always start at 18psi front and rear and adjust from there. Hope that helps!
I know this video is old , but I live close to this track and I notice it’s for go karts , did you just show up with groms or did you get permission to ride bikes ? I want to go there but not sure how to go about it
They allow bikes! I would call to confirm, but typically you just show up and ride. If there are karts out there they typically do sessions. Karts for a bit. Then bikes. Then karts... And so on.
Oh okay, I appreciate it 👍🏻
Man this just makes me desperate to race
I know!!!!! It's torture being off the track this long!
Tony Generali we’re so close to getting back at it though, i hope i can keep up with you, my goal is to eventually get into MotoAmerica, I still have a lot of time to improve though
I really hope I get to watch you in Motoamerica one day!!! That would be amazing!
Tony Generali thank you, it’s gonna take a lottt. i’m really excited to get back, that’s the main thing right now 😅 I’m ready to start being fast
Mann I 'd love to have a go on a track like that!! haha what caused the low side?
100% rider error. My last video is just about the crash... but they cut the track on us early in the day, I wanted to rip the 65 down the straight to see how quick it really was.... well... it was faster than anticipated and I blew the corner. Got out onto the dirty part of the track, tapped the front brake, tucked the front. That's racing for you!!!
Where are you at in the UK? Cause it's my understanding that y'all have race tracks everywhere. Lol
Tony Generali Ahhh I see! Well I’m in London quite near Heathrow airport. I’ve heard of some big tracks around here but I’ve never been to one so I wouldn’t know where they are haha. I might look into more of the gokart type tracks for the Grom!
@@tapecknows road racing is really big in the UK, so I'm betting you've got something close. These little bikes on track is the most fun you can have on 2 wheels. Fear of injury is limited cause speed is lower. I love racing my big bike too... there is just something about ripping the grom around a track!
