    2:14 This guy hit the hammer on the nail. This is what pawn stars might be doing:-
    Rick: So how much are you looking for this mace?
    Customer: $3800
    Rick: Let me call a buddy of mine who knows a lot more about these things.
    (Rick calls Craig on phone)
    Rick: Hi Craig there is a guy who brought an old looking mace and asking $3800 please authenticate it and if it's real then quote a price of $2500 so that I can buy it for $1500-1800 and actually sell it for $4000

    • @edgarvalencia3657
      @edgarvalencia3657 7 років тому +10

      The so called "beard of wisdom" said that's why he won't give prices .... Since he cant win giving them.
      Either rick hates him for giving honest prices, or the owners hate him if they catch him making lowball/conservative offers.... And his integrity will be in question.

    • @soumilagarwal3626
      @soumilagarwal3626 7 років тому

      on some items I find pawn shop offers fair price but for most items they always start the negotiation from half the price which expert quotes and eventually buy it for about 60% of asking price.

    If you think it's worth more, then why even sell it at a Pawn Shop, or even better question. Why are you going to a Pawn Shop? Go to an auction and get more money.

      I see what you are saying but the reason you would go to a Pawn shop over auctioning it yourself is because it might work out in your favor if you can get the Pawn Shop to pay for the risk for THEM to have to auction it and risk losing $ on it as apposed to yourself.

    • @angelscream02
      @angelscream02 6 років тому

      The problem is , in an auction you must prove its authenticity, and a lot of paper work. I bet there will be guys like Craig in the auction to inspect items of course and give it appraisal.

    • @edgarvalencia3657

      The whole idea of a pawn shop is to rip people off when they're vulnerable.

    • @RCFunEveryday
      @RCFunEveryday 6 років тому +1

      Not everyone who goes to a pawn shop is desperate.
      If you are walking in with a 100k painting for example, chances are you aren't desperate or broke, you just want to move it on without the hassle of advertising and all the rest of it.
      Some people are the opposite and have so much money they don't mind if they lose a few thousand to just get rid of an item and free up space.
      Likewise, the more people you show an item to, the more chance you have of someone trying to rob you for it.
      You have a very strange outlook.

    Do you have a script for what you're gonna say? The thing about weight in a weapon is a bit off. You want your weapon to be in a sweet spot between speed and momentum. You need to be able to swing it fast enough to exploit your opponents opening before it closes, but you also want the weapon heavy enough to pack a punch. Speed doesn't translate into raw damage. A knitting needle is going to cause less damage than a sword, despite it being lighter and faster.

    • @evolutionisamyth4769
      @evolutionisamyth4769 8 років тому

      +mrkiky Bla bla bla....

    • @SuperElbastardo
      @SuperElbastardo 8 років тому

      +mrkiky
      Kind of right, but he also mentioned swords. A sword is normally flat and kind of sharb, so you need the speed and not the weight ;-)

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 8 років тому

      SuperElbastardo Well you need a balance of weight and speed even in a sword. A light sword is not gonna be able to parry an attack from a heavy sword. It would just get pushed out of the way and maybe even injure your wrist.

    • @SuperElbastardo
      @SuperElbastardo 8 років тому

      +mrkiky apply the logic you used in your firstpost..second, i could spin the argument if the lighter sword is faster the heavier will be cut from the wrist. third, if we can compare different weapons, I say a heavy sword will loose against a gun. see what i did here?

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 8 років тому

      SuperElbastardo Yea I see what you did there. You derailed the whole argument.Guns = ranged weapons, you don't swing guns, not the subject at hand, drop it. I said you need a balance between speed and weight. That's what I said in both posts. Too light = crap because it can't do proper damage and it can't withstand a heavier weapon. Too heavy = crap because you can't swing it. That applies to cutting and bludgeoning weapons. And all such weapons are found within the in weight range. The only thing that makes a difference is what extra equipment was meant to be used with the weapon (shield/armor/another weapon) and what kind of equipment/weapon it was supposed to go against. Also, weapons needed to fulfill other functions like being easy to carry or stealthy in some cases, which creates more variance. But for every task there's a balance. Neither speed nor weight will reign supreme.

    1:10 actually it's a lot more about maneuverability, the faster you can swing the harder it is to dodge and the faster you
    can recover from a swing, also depending on the type of swing, such as an overhead swing, more weight can mean more damage.

    Why do you turn off comments on a bunch of videos? I think it hurts you for subscribers etc. you got a lot of good info and knowledge. Sometimes people wanna ask questions.

    You always wonder if an expert shows up knowing what he has then why won't he just go get it certified himself and send it to an auction house. If not, then don't complain with the pawn shop owner cutting the value in half as a final offer. Doesn't the expert know that the pawn shop is only in it to make a profit???
