Good Morning America named Sleeping Bear Dunes, "The Most Beautiful Place in America." Having traveled extensively throughout the country, we can say without a doubt that the area is definitely beautiful and worth seeing. If you have a day in the area, here are "4 Things You Must Do" when visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes.
    1. Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive
Michigan lumberman, Pierce Stocking, wanted to share the beauty of this area with others, so in the 1960's the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive was constructed. This 7.5 mile drive not only provides you with a history of the area, but also showcases Michigan's beautiful shoreline and sand dunes. You can pick up a free guide at the entrance to the drive.
Park Entrance Pass: $25/vehicle, $20/motorcycle, $15/person who enters on foot or on bike
    2. Dune Climb
Looking for a great place to picnic, get some exercise, and let the kids play? The Dune Climb just north of Empire on M-109 is an ideal stop. Just steps from the parking lot you can put your feet in the sand and climb a sand dune. At the top get rewarded with beautiful views of Glen Lake.
    3. Glen Haven
Founded in 1857, Glen Haven is a step back in time to when small villages used to supply fuel to steamers along the Great Lakes. Today you can explore the Cannery Boathouse, the General Store, Blacksmith Shop, and let's not forget the beautiful beach.

    4. Glen Arbor (Art's Tavern and Cherry Republic)
This quaint little town just outside of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a great spot to grab some food, check out some local art, and visit the famous Cherry Republic. For a quick bite, stop in at Art's Tavern. Art's has been serving fantastic bar food since opening its doors in 1934. You can't go wrong with a classic cheeseburger. No visit to Glen Arbor is complete without stopping at Cherry Republic. Savor the flavor of over 200 cherry-based products, including their wine.

here's the thing I live in Michigan I have been going up there sense well the late 90s. What that area has that the east cost and west cost don't have is the water, the Islands, the history, the fact that is not massively built up . Each year I go back and I remember why it is a place of beauty.

@@JennPreston I've done it while camping near the sleeping bear dunes with my dad when I was a young teenager (I am 30 now), it really was fun.
My dad was the driver and I was in the passengers seat, you had to go past this special checkpoint to join the line going up the dunes slowly and make it over the first dune and then it basically turned into a free-for-all once you got to the bottom of the first dune, I've seen people with dirt bikes, ATV's, trucks, and of course dune buggies.
(The dune buggies were available to rent out at a business very close to the area where you initially drove up the dune)
There were the ones who liked to drive slower, then there were the adrenaline junkies that liked a few seconds of airtime before hitting the ground. I seen people doing donuts out there on their ATV'S, in their cars, and in the dune buggies.
However, the real entertainment started when people got stuck on the top of the dunes because they were driving a little slower then they should have been and they didn't have enough momentum to fully make it over the dune. You could see their tires spinning and sand being spat everywhere, and someone else usually had to come help pull them free. 🤣🤣🤣

Feeling that platform move as people were entering/exiting was one of the scariest moments of my life. That fear really kept me from enjoying the scenery.

It's over 5000 a week to rent. I've been going since I was a wee lad at 4ish. They've priced out the average joe.

What’s $5,000 a week to rent!?!?!? An AirBnB? That’s wild.

      @angelachapman4415 Місяць тому +1

That's exaggerated. I just rented a home to sleep out family of 5 for 3 nights and it came under $1k, so a week would have been around $2k. There are also cheaper places available.
