Casa Bonita Is BACK (and Worth the Wait!)

- After Casa Bonita's $40 million renovation by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Colorado's very own Disneyland of Mexican Food restaurant and home of cliff divers is officially back and its grand reopening is underway. And finally, regular people are getting in from the waitlist, and there's a lot to love about the new Casa Bonita.
Get on the Casa Bonita waitlist: www.casabonitadenver.com/
If you haven't got into Casa Bonita yet, I'll give you a walk thru and tour of the restaurant where I'll show the much improved food by Chef Dana Rodriguez, what it's like inside, and many of the highlights, including the waterfall, Cartman statue, and more.

We are going next week after waiting a year... super excited.
I hope you all have a blast! Our son keeps asking us when we can go back, and I can’t answer that 😂
So happy that Matt and Trey pulled this off. Definitely will try and check it out if I am ever in the area.
I have such wonderful memories of this place, I remember going at least once, but likely twice as a young boy. Once I know was for my Birthday, my Grandpa gave me a picture of a lion and now that is a treasured gift but then I could not wait to go walk through the caves again, I remember vaguely a snake with an open mouth and its heart beating inside. I would love to visit again, but I live in another state and never know when I'm going to be in the area.
My wife is in that Mariachi group at Casa ❤😊
They’re amazing! That’s so cool!
Thank you for doing this video! Casa Bonita was originally built when I was in kindergarten, and my family and I visited it for the first time when it was about a year old. I loved that place as a kid (and even as an adult) and was so happy to see that someone bought it to renovate it and keep it alive. It looks so nice inside.
It’s transformed! And it sounds like they’ll be moving to a regular reservation system soon, so I hope you’re able to see it again soon!
@@davechung Awesome!
Casa Bonita in 1976 was a wonderful, fantasy like, experience. I hope the new owners have brought some of that back.
Same here. Went there between '75 and '76 as a kid and it was amazing.
Thanks for sharing this! I signed up for the lottery a year ago when they opened and am happy to say I got the email this week to make a reservation! This video gives a good overview of what to expect.
Enjoy! We had a great time! I’m so happy it helped. I did the best I could while managing our two kids there 😂
I’m laughing at each smell reference.
😂 I took a deep breath in as soon as I entered the pretty house!
this dude is pouring so much more than he's draining...love this homie
Dude…. I just stumbled on your channel because of what you’re feeding your dog. I remember meeting you and your wife back in the days at spectrum.
😂 amazing!
he's for real@@davechung
I was not excited for this video (the waitlist, gimmick or whatnot of Casa Bonita). But it was great and informative.
Thank you so much!
big love homie, another great video
Thanks, Phil! Appreciate it!
Less than a minute! Less than a minute!
Great video!! LOVEDDDDD this place as a kid. Like more than Disney
Thank you! I’m so happy my kids are gonna grow up with Casa Bonita as part of their lives!
Still waiting, itxs been 11 months since I got on the waiting list. The old one was filthy, smelly, terrible food, but lots of fun. I can't believe I M so anxious to get my invitation!
So smelly 😂 I hope you get it soon! It sounds like they’re almost ready to switch to a reservation system instead of the waitlist/lottery, and hopefully waitlist people will get the first shot at it!
I’m gonna have to go. Grew up in Colorado my whole life but never been lol.
You’ll get a much better version! 😀 Grab a spot on that waitlist!
Ahhhh Casa Bonitaaaa, awesoooome!
I kid you not, as I was about to say, "I bet there is a South Park reference somewhere at Casa Bonita", you show Cartman as his table.
😂 you knew it was coming!
I’ve been on the waitlist for almost a year!!!
I’m going there tmr
We are watching, fella. 🇨🇦
Thanks for watching, Mr. Teanuts!
The sopapillas are amazing but really have just one otherwise you'll get The Diabeetus!
😂 I may have had 3…
This was featured on my homepage but I don't understand why. I live in Australia and don't look up mexican food ever online. I suppose there's something pushing this out to the audience, the big sell is on. Interesting to hear how they have opted for the milder style of food. Like you said it sounds like they are aiming to please the kiddy masses. Sadly where I live good mexican food is very difficult to find.
That’s so funny! 😂 I hope life is good in Australia! Any chance you’re a South Park fan? That’s a big reason why people outside of Denver know of it.
It looks like this video was also in a Cracked article, so it’s being suggested to more people outside of Colorado.
@@davechung I'm not a SP fan, but I always considered SP to be edgy adult humor, so seeing this restaurant aimed at children has me confused
@@leokimvideo The restaurant hasn't changed. It was renovated and upgraded. As you can see in the videos with Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Nothing changed. So saying this is aiming at kids is painfully wrong because it was always a place for both children and adults. The reason so many come and visit is because they had promotion going on and simply because it's a South Park fan favourite location that happens to be real and accessible.
@leokimvideo the only reason it was in South Park to begin with is because it's somewhat of a local legend. I grew up in colorado and have been many times. It was really fun to watch SP later and see it was featured there too. SP has a lot of colorado culture in it actually. It's a very different experience to watch SP as a colorado native.
But the restaurant has always been a place for families, it just so happens to now be owned by the creators of SP
I signed up like 2 months ago and still haven’t got an invite 😂 idk if I’m ever gonna get to experience this place
There are literally 600,000 people on the waitlist so you might have to wait until sometime next year.
@@amyzonkers7568 well that’s an L since I live in NC and would have to plan a whole nother trip out to CO just to go 😂
its manbearpig not a gorilla 😆
😂
Hey David! Did you come into the Boulder Barber the other day?? I met you!
I didn’t! 😀 there are some doppelgängers of me out there! Definitely say hi if we’re ever in the same spot!
I've been on the wait list longer than you and still haven't gotten a invite.
Be happy that you are on the list. I can't visit the place because I don't live in the States (Germany) and I'm a die-hard South Park fan since the early 2000s. 😢
_Si, me riding me tiny bicicletta to Casa Bonita._
all restaurant in 2024 look like shit but casa bonita looks like gold❤
so, why the lottery system to get in? Is it just to keep the demand up and prices high rather than being open normal full time hours like any other restaurant?
It’s a great question! My guess is it started as a staffing/normal soft opening thing, but then they didn’t want people having a poor experience standing outside with a 2-3 hour wait or seeing OpenTable booked out for a year+.
ha, I also think Super Mega Bien has pretty lame flavors and is aiming for alot of table flips over a relaxing experience. I guess she was the perfect choice for neo CB.
It kind of makes sense in a weird way 😀 I wanted all the flavors to be bumped up about 25%, just like SMB.
Bros like cousin Kyle
I'll have to put my friend in a Bunker and convince him society has been destroyed just so I can go !
😂 many people would never believe Casa Bonita could actually ever change!
A bit late, this re-opened May 2023, i went there in July. Also several other UA-camrs have already extensively covered the new Matt and Trey owned operation.
What is the point of your comment? Clearly you don’t get to choose when they invite you in and are you saying he shouldn’t make the video because someone else already did? It was so unhelpful and unnecessary.
@@nikolsweeney8129 my point is he is saying it’s BACK when it’s been back for over a year. That’s all. Calm down Karen.
having to make a reservation for mx food lol rainforest cafe has no res, lol 3 yr old got a burger
Thanks for tour, may I make a suggestion? I feel like I saw some quick shots of the restaurant, but 50% of video was of your face, nothing wrong with your face, just not what I tuned in for.
I appreciate the suggestion! For the point in life I’m in, I record for these videos when I’m out with our 3-year-old and 1-year-old, so I do the best I can while staying reasonably present with them so that they won’t feel like I’m “working.” I’m usually filming while holding one of them, so it’s not a typical UA-cam setup.
It’s a tricky balance, but I’ll keep working on the face to action ratio. It’s always on my mind as I’m editing!
@@davechung I agree with the original comment, video could’ve probably been shrunk to about 5-6 minutes with voice over footage only. Not that we don’t wanna see you, but in todays fast paced era, people like short & to the point videos.
I actually know people who look for short informative video’s in the 4-5-6 minute range. Anything 7-10+ min tends to be filler that could’ve been left out. Just trying to help your channel maximize potential.
Well it couldn't get any worse.
😂 I think many felt the same way.
Its a cafeteria with entertainment, where they make fools of the customers all caught up in the waiting to get in there. Ive never seen a good review of the food, so essentially, you're going to the circus and eating food that no decent restaurant would serve. Oh well.
The food is still garbage
IT'S DISGUSTING!!! it's cafeteria food. If you like panchos you'll like it. The service was lacking, it took forever to get a waiter to see to us, the food took forever to arrive and once it did it was cold. I went three years ago maybe it has improved
Three years ago was a completely different experience. This was after a $40 million dollar renovation, and it just reopened in 2023 😀
"I went three years ago" NOT RELEVANT! The whole operation has gone through massive changes. Most famously new owners.
@@Neojhun WRONG! "Not relevant" would be if it changed its name, moved to a new location or started serving food like a restaurant instead of a cafeteria. Is the food prepared for you after you order from a table? Do you know the difference between a restaurant and a cafeteria?
@@davechung wow 40 million.. did they purchase a better gorilla costume?
@@clinch2clench They did get a better suit. If you sit cliffside, you can order from your server. It's vastly improved from 3 years ago (which was the point of the video, haha).
Sure....if you want to spend an arm and leg to watch people jump into a pool.....
No thanks.
I’m sorry but judging by the price for “tickets” the owners have lost their mind and should have, sadly left Casa Bonita dead. They did not make a good choice and are now trying to desperately make up for their huge loss. This is simply one persons humble opinion. Your thoughts make no difference to me and trying to argue will not get you anywhere. We are all entitled to our opinions.
Its not a waiting list. Its a lottery. Winners are randomly chosen from their casa bonita email club list. If your lucky your given the opportunity 2 go. I know people on the list for over 1 yr & i know people that were on the list only 2 weeks.
That's disgusting
