Bobby was a seriously talented musician. He was proficient at playing the guitar, drums, piano, and harmonica. I believe Darin was the most versatile entertainer of the 20th century. What he accomplished in his brief 37 years is nothing short of Legendary. Singer (rock, jazz, blues, R&B, pop standards, big band, swing, country western, folk, funk, soul/gospel) musician, performer, actor, impressionist, songwriter, producer, arranger, entrepreneur, variety tv show host, activist. The man truly did it all, and he did it all so well. One of a kind, Bobby.

He was very ill when this was filmed. I’ve always had a major soft spot for him because if it weren’t for modern medicine I’d have suffered the same fate. I was a strep carrier when I was a kid. My doctor took out my tonsils & put me on a month long course of strong antibiotics before it reached the point of turning into rheumatic fever and/or scarlet fever. Taking antibiotics for years trying to fight off the strep has ruined my gut biome though so I didn’t get off Scott free. Now whenever I take antibiotics they make me really sick including the occasional c-diff which is a nightmare. I’d be dead by now if it weren’t for modern medicine.

Im so glad the extremely talented stevie wonder chose this and they are both such great performers you could tell stevie didnt want to overshadow bobby but darin being a true musician at heart he saw the raw talent and knew what stevie had to offer his song and when he says i cant hear ya now stevie knew just what that meant and really took it away and i just love how they both came together at the end so respectful so beautiful and just everyone loving and enjoying every minute of it including the 2 of them this must be what god truly loves to watch his creations do everything else is devils play.

These type of variety shows are sorely missed today. One of the best thing about a show like this and The Carol Burnett Show, etc. were that they would have singers pair up with other famous singers and do songs together that weren't their own. Such great performances.

What a phenomenal pairing I love how both of them perform. Go back and listen to Stevie Wonder from his childhood up through his young adult years. Prodigy. In terms of Bobby Darin, I think he is definitely an underrated, relatively less known master performer. I mean, he's known, but he's not talked about in the same conversation as many of his late 50's, 60's contemporaries. He was a real triple threat like Dean Martin: singing, acting and comedy. Anytime he was on one of these variety shows he made it better. Watch some Andy Williams episodes with him. Also, look up his impressions. He was really good--I mean, REALLY good, at nailing impressions of famous people from his era.
