The 1979 live version of this song with Pat Methany. Is stunning.

My daughter was born in 1977. This song is why I named her Amelia. ❤

For Joni, her artistry and career came first, even at the expense of love.

Of all Joni Mitchell's songs, and I've been an avid fan since the 70s, Amelia is my favorite for its poetry and guitar melody. Fun fact, up until the album Hejira, Joni had always played acoustic guitar. But for this project, she wanted to implement a more ethereal soundscape by bringing in the effects of an electric guitar. It took Joni weeks to re-learn how to play the electric guitar. At one point, she was so frustrated not being able to achieve the same strumming and fingering action she had perfected on acoustic, she threw down the guitar in the studio. If you want to learn any of Joni's songs, I suggest you look online for the particular song's guitar tunings as they are mostly done in open chord tunings, usual not found in standard sheet music for guitar. Congrats on the new pad, and discoveries of Mitchell's profound catalog ❤

The hexagram of the heavens is one of the configurations of sticks in an I Ching fortune-telling cast. Like the guitar strings and the jet trails it is made up of six long parallel sticks, and has to do with creativity and ambition.

Pope; it’s been too long but now that you have resurfaced with Joni and especially Amelia…. It’s great to see you again! This song… this song….

  • @glass2467

Yeah! You found Hejira. Every song on this album is just as deep as Amelia. Besides being a genius poet, she's also a great and unique guitarist. She uses a lot of unique tunings.

Hey Pope, haven’t seen much of your channel since your Led Zeppelin days but I’m really glad you’re getting into Joni Mitchell. Everything she’s made is amazing.

  • @eugenesouza3819

Thank you Pope for always coming back to us and with great music as well.

Icarus is the hero in a myth about a man who makes wings and flies to close to the sun.

  • @danevans5823

As mentioned, try the 79' live version. On top of the great musicians, she moves round the stage like a cat showing how to fully entrance the audience

  • @Jack-D-Ripper

I just love the starts of your reaction videos Pope, now that you use that beautiful Allan Holdsworth guitar solo from the track "Endomorph" from his 1989 album "Secrets".

  • @JuliaF60

Not heard this before- beautiful and philosophical- enjoy your new home Pope- like in the song, we are all on a journey, searching✨🧡. Suggestions? Jimi Hendrix-.Angel.

This album ,'Hejira', and David Sylvian's 'Songs from the Beehive', I consider to be the two albums I know that reach perfection. [And I've followed a few…]

Joni said that the road for her was a way of avoiding getting deeply involved in relationships. There is a sense of freedom there. I have experienced touring myself and I never wanted it to end because ending tbe tour meant 'going home' and I never felt at ease at home and never felt at ease in any relationship. I felt like I was meant to travel my whole life. It never turned out that way, but I have lived life on tbe edge and I did use touring as an escape like Joni. This album 'Hijeira' carries this restless, road theme throughout actually. One of her strongest most cohesive releases. I hope you make it to 'Turbulent Indigo'. This was released in tbe mid-nineties and is one of my favorites, it is dark and melancolic, full of shadows but with bits of sunlight peeking tbrough.

  • @rosmeeker1964

Oh yes. This is poetry. :)

  • @davidfisher8821

Along with Hissing of Summer Lawns, her two best albums. You should listen to both , such lyricism, pure poetry. Prince once said Hissing was his favorite album!

  • @jaycorby

Beautiful! Been following Joni for years, how did I miss this one? Inexcusable on my part. Like your style, POPE. You're laid back, soft spoken and introspective - your reactions are pleasant to ingest.

  • @kurtl3011

I just can’t comprehend how such a poetic, philosophical and beautiful song was created. Only Joni, creative genius, could do this.
