Bowie had a heart attack on tour in 05. He immediately retired to raise his young daughter with Iman. He avoided attention for 10 yrs. Then, without anyone having a clue. He dropped this odd reflective song followed by a full album. The song is a walk down memory lane from his days in Berlin. A huge part of his career blossomed there.

The 20,000 people ref in the song is when Bowie played Berlin during the Glass Spider tour, apparently 20,000 people were on the other side of the wall listening to him but couldn’t get to see him
Album, The Next Day. Unknown to most, Bowie now knew he had liver cancer. This is one of Iman's favorites, and she knew her man. David comments on the world and his life. Especially Iman ... as long as there's you. Tears.
"Earthling", David Bowie's best album, in. my book. The only album that I have of his and the only one that I like.
Excellent choice. David lived in Berlin in the late 70's and recorded the Berlin Trilogy (Low, Heroes, and Lodger) there with Tony Visconti and Brian Eno. This song was the first thing he'd recorded after ten years staying out of the business and expresses nostalgia for the Berlin years. It's so bittersweet, isn't it?

This song wonderfully captures the feeling when Germany was still divided. The feeling when you had to go through military control in the GDR to get to West Berlin, constantly fearing that you had done something wrong. Therefore: “fingers are crossed” hoping that everything goes well. This dark mood corresponded to David's situation back when he came to Berlin completely exhausted and addicted to drugs to give his life a new direction. Thank you for choosing this song. "everyone says hi" is also a very beautiful song about giving your life a new direction. It accompanied me when I left everything behind and emigrated.

It was the lead single off his 2nd to last album The Next Day in 2013. He’s looking back at his Berlin period, which is regarded by many as his greatest achievement. To me, the song is asking us fans who’ve been with him since that time to look back and remind ourselves of those days and what it is about Bowie that captured us.

I first saw him live in 1972 and saw every tour since. He always wins over the audience. Personable, a great entertainer, n amazing imaginative song writer. His bands and collaborators are the best.

I agree you'd probably Tin Machine. For something diff ck him out on the tour w/Nine Inch Nails. They traded out who headlined shows on that tour. Saw it 2×.
Ned from Spain saying thank you for choosing this incredible song. It's from 2013 but when I heard it played right after his death the wife and I kept crying , same with the Blackstar album. He already sounds worn out and wounded especially his voice. The band really give it a ton of passion, the drumming is phenomenal. The Next Day is for us, a masterpiece at the close of an astounding career. Other songs like " Stars are out Tonight" " Valentines Day" " I'd Rather be High" and more. We still really miss you David Bowie.

Brilliant requests. My first time hearing the loneliest guy was when I watched him live in '03. Slip Away is one of my all time favourites by him.
@@emander8340 Yes! I saw him 3 times live. Two times in Germany in 1996, and one time in Denmark in 97. Unfortunately, I didn't go to his early 2000 concerts because i didn't expect him to stop, get a heart attack or anything like it. I wish now that i went in 2002 or 2004 to his London concerts because i lived in London at the time. I also like 'I Would Be Your Slave '. I always tried to figure out of if it was for God or for Iman 😄. I have been following Pope since he does David Bowie on here and watched all his Bowie videos. Wish he would do another album reaction. 😊 I like the Heathen album or the Scary Monsters album would be great for him to do.
@@anjav77 ah I only got to see him the once though I got on stage with and have a letter from Iggy Pop from '93. Bowie is my all time hero though. I have a tattoo of him. Heathen is so good. I think his later albums stack up as every bit as good as the classics. Heathen is up there for me. Scary Monsters is a masterpiece of course. Up the Hill Backwards is my favourite. 😎

I have a Bowie related song for you. when Bowie lived in Berlin he co-wrote two albums with Iggy Pop. Those albums are to many Bowie fans an important part/extension to his own triology.

A few words remind us of David's times in Berlin. There was a brief period when he felt at home there. The "Böse Brücke" ( böse = engl. evil) was named after the resistance fighter Wilhelm Böse and only became known on the day the Wall fell in '89 when the first German sisters and brothers crossed it (via Bornholmer Str.) to the west. No matter what is written today, as a westerner I am glad that this association exists and I hope that it continues to exist!
