Dewalt Cordless 54v 60v Saw, fair warning ⚠️.

  • Spent over an hour repairing this one, and all for nothing.
    Couldn't fully test it to start with because the bearing was that bad.
    If it had of turned from the start I would have known the motor was already gone. But to be honest, I probably would have still changed the bearing just to make sure.
    Take this as a warning ⚠️.
    if you have these dewalt 54v or 60v saws, keep in eye on those bearings. if they fail like this, they can take out the motor.

    Hi, I repaired one and had the same issue and I keep rotating the tackle until I found the correct orientation, it has to be on the same spot as when it comes off, when I saw you taking it off I thought you knew something that I didn't, is clocked too the armature and the speed controller knows where the location of the armature magnets are, hope this helps you.
    Probably the best idea is before taking the back bearing mark the tackle and the armature with a marker to know the correct location, like timing an engine

      There is a white marking on the tackle. Is this from the factory? And anyway - if this is so important, then why donˋt DeWalt tell you in the breakdown or other technical information? Same reason, why they put cheap bearings in their tools: they want to sell new machines.

    Had a Milwaukee impact do the same thing, wouldn’t run correctly was the Hall effect sensor but it’s only had 1 of 3 positions for the armature to be in and of course didn’t put it in the correct position. It’s possible that the tacho has a small variation in magnet position on the disc and has be calibrated out via computer to make them run.
    Great way of reducing repairability without the equipment.

    The biggest problem I have always had with battery operated tools it the battery going bad long before the tool goes bad, and the replacement battery is over 1/2 the cost of the machine. That is why I prefer to stick with corded tools as much as possible.

      Yes, the numbers are generally used by all the manufacturers. You can also measure ID, Width & OD in millimeters with a caliper and find them in a catalog or online that way. One of my favorite places to use it is if you need to rip a board lengthwise, it will power through it no problem

    • @michaelfairchild
      @michaelfairchild 2 місяці тому

      There wasnt a problem with it as per factory build, but basically as the owner you start to hear machine not working properly, you should think of servicing it, before it will cost loads more. Bearing started to go bad and instead of repair, they kept going where bearing blew the covers of itself and moved the armature towards the sensors.

      Owned one for 3 years, was the most powerful saw I had ever used, corded or otherwise. It never skipped a beat during my ownership either. I'd recommend if you're in the market for this type of saw.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  2 місяці тому +1

      I would deffinantly recommend these saws. For the power and size of cut, there isn't many others like it.
      Performance is very good, only problem is the size, weight and cost.
      But that's ti be expected when you buy a saw with a bigger blade and motor.
      The batteries would be more unreliable than the actual saw.
      But like I point out in the video, watch the bearings. They only use cheap bearings that don't last long, so keep an ear out for them

    Hii man . I am a metal fabricator from india ! I use dewalt corded 4 inch grinder 11 thousand rpm and after using it for tile cutting... it picksup speed slowly and also feels like bearing has lost lubrication. Please suggest

    • @homemadelemonade976
      @homemadelemonade976 2 місяці тому +1

      Probably the bearing has picked up dust and is slowly grinding itself to death. I suggest pulling the rotor and check it's rear bearing and the brushes. Bit more involved procedure is to take apart the gear housing or "the head" of the grinder, and see if the big bearing on the output shaft is done for. If the output shaft is hard to turn by hand when the gear housing is disconnected from motor then main bearing in the gear housing on the output shaft is blown.

    I've repaired a bunch of hall effect sensors in tools, and it has 50% chance of it working.
    Many times especially in drills and angle grinders, dust and metal fillings enter motors and strip or short the hall effect sensors, and sometimes this ruins the BLDC controller input as well (no fix in that case).
    Most of hall boards can be easily tested - either with multimeter or oscilloscope, they just need a magnet and +3 or 5v power to test.
    You can also build a simple hall sensor testing board like this: ua-cam.com/video/6N6OR341qQc/v-deo.html
    most of hall sensors are interchangeable and can be made to work regardless of what was originally there - just look at datasheet at how they need to be wired (wire capacitor, pullup or pulldown resistor properly, i've even had to put pulldown resistor into area usually reserved for capacitor) - controller only cares about binary input in the end.
