FYI, I prefer the 781 for its single battery operation, lighter weight, and dust setup. Some say the 781 material clamp works great by applying pressure to get a friction lock. I tried that but it still comes loose if you tap the clamped material, or it could just be me. 🤷🏻♂️ See ya!
Bought a DHS790 after watching this and loving it. :)
Thank you for the very informative review . Appreciate your attention to detail. Thanks again
Yw!
Nice review. Its nice to see a "I used this in the field side by side" style comparison.
second time i considered up grading . both times your video gave me the info i needed to stay with 790 .thankyou
Great video man! Keep it on!
You’re the first one on the UA-cam to do this comparison!
Thanks for your review. Besides the single battery and better dust collection, there doesn't seem to be enough reason to switch.
Good review. The issue with the material clamp blows my mind. Just emailed Dewalt to see if they have any guidance on the clamp.
Let us know what news from the North. ⚔
@@toolrev As it clamps down the pole starts to pull tension towards the fence causing it to bind in the slot and hold itself in there
Great I’m waiting for my new cordless. Well if I don’t like it I have 30 days to trade it for power. Geez. I love my DeWalt miter which I have had for 22yrs.
I have a DeWalt DWS780 corded 12” miter saw. How do these compare power wise to my corded DeWalt. I certainly have never had an issue of not having enough power with my corded one.
Never had a 780, maybe someone else can answer but there is no power issue with cordless. We past that mark a few years ago.
@@toolrevI agree cordless tools have certainly come a long way. I appreciate your time in responding. Keep up the great work with the reviews!!! I have watched many, I love the one you did on The DeWalt DCS578 I have that saw and I love it!!
@@DeWaltDCS577 Thanks. Yeah the freedom of cordless is amazing. They say a new 3rd party cross-platform battery solution is coming so it may get easier for us to buy what we want vs being stuck to any one brand. Good times.
@@toolrev your welcome. Yes I agree cordless now gives you the power of corded without the cord. Taking that power anywhere. Really? I didn’t know that, I will be curious to learn more about that. Especially being able to buy what we want. Hopefully you can do a video on that sometime soon.
Absolutely love this review!!!
How big is the price difference? As far as tool only and kit for both? Is it a big difference?
Will this cut through a sleeper ( 200mm x 100mm )
Does the new DCS781 have a miter detent override? For example, to lock in at 45.1 degrees without the preset sliding the table into 45.0 degrees?
No, they got rid of it on the 781.
@@toolrev Are you saying that you can't squeeze and hold the mitre detent latch on the underside of the mitre arm, swing to any degree then release and lock it down/in with the mitre lock lever? Makes no sense. The old method might be gone but it should still be possible with the underside latch (albeit less convenient perhaps)
No, just saying the 781 has no detent override to lock it open. Some worry with no override, when cutting slight degrees just off a detent's edge, releasing the lever that close can drop it into the slot putting you off the degree you want. The 790's override holds it open for you and has a stiffer swing so even though you're not locked in it will probably stay put.
@@toolrev I understand. My DW713 has the override function and it seems tight but not locking it down, more often than not, throws it off a degree or so at least when cutting through 5/8 plywood. On that model and the 20V version (override is a button on the top), I just move into position and lock down immediately with my palm.
Thought you were going to compare a sliding miter saw to a DeWalt 790 Radial Arm Saw...... Love the 790 RAS!
Do you have any idea where I can get the DHS790 saw?
No, but I've been seeing them pop up and get sold out online everywhere from Amazon to Acme so keep on the look out and you may find a batch come online. Just saw the DHS790AT2 combo at the original price pop up and sell out on Amazon within hours a couple weeks go. Myself I prefer the new 781 for its one battery operation and slightly smaller size and weight.
The original had alot of problems due to the ac adapter burning motors up . The new model looks alot better and only 1 battery .
Any issues using the ACAdapter on your DHS790 or motor replacements? Just curious on longevity of the tool. Great Video!
I never use the adapter. The one time I did it worked fine. I haven't had any issues with the 790 but I don't use it nearly as much as their 20V 7-1/4 miter saw.
I have a new 790 that I bought over a year ago. I got sick and never got to use it. How long have you had your 790? When I get to using it I will not use the 120v adapter
Got mine when it first came out, so back around 2015 ish. @@DanielPerez-mb7wm
Great review , cheers !!
whats the reasoning behind the shallow cut and then full depth of cut you sometimes make? im not really familiar with technique for miter saws so was wondering that
Sometimes it's easier to cut thicker/denser material in multiple passes. Sometimes it helps for straighter/cleaner cuts. It also puts less pressure on the motor and battery.
@@toolrev thanks(also really enjoy your reviews)!
Less load on the blade
They should have made it a 10". The 790 was already a solid 12" saw, would have been nice to round out their portfolio with a cordless 10". Or just offer the euro spec DCS727 in the states.
nice video, question what do you think about the makita 40v miter saw 12'' ?
Haven't tried it yet. From what I've seen it's pretty nice but probably too heavy for a jobsite saw. A bit pricey as well.
@@toolrev you are right!! thanks for fast reply!!
They are Already Clearancing the DCS781 Out , I saw it at Home Depot yesterday (3/23/24) on Clearance for $350.00 tool only , Im thinking about going to get it But maybe they are having Problems with that model , why else would they be Clearancing it out soo soon , does Anyone Know anything about this model ??? 👍🖖
I bought mine summer of 23 and haven't had a single issue with it
I’ve noticed that to. My local Home Depot has it on sale for $699 CAD tool only and it’s like $200 off normal price. I’m tempted to get one
Can you do a video of the dewalt 10 in vs 8 1/4 table saw coded
I'll put it on the list but it might be awhile. In the meantime I did review the 8.25" corded table saw here - ua-cam.com/video/C_3dyY_XfSU/v-deo.html
Now that you've had both for a while if you have the 790 would you get the 781 knowing what you know now?
If I could only have one I’d take the 781 for it’s single battery operation.
Does fhe 781 have a power adapter like the 790?
No
It's 60v not 120v so of course it doesn't have an adapter
That's not the reason. There's an adaptor for the 790 in NZ where we use 240V. It's because the power adaptors were burning out the motors@@simonsays5979
Nice review 👌
On the clamp, try pulling sideways towards the opposite side of the clamp, to create tension and than try clamping down while holding the tension.
Where do you get that foot pedal for the vacuum? Awesome
Link's in the video description.
I didn't c it?
What batteries will the new one take? Does it work with the 20v power stack batteries, or the 20v XR batteries?
no, it's a 60V tool so it only works with Flevolts
Also just wanted to say that this was a great video 👍
ty
great review sir
If the 120v didn't have the power cord option it's make buying the 60v much easier
If it helps, I never use mine anyway and have heard it's a known cause of motor failure. If true this could be why they ditched it on the 781.
Good Review
The old tool had a place to store the included adjustment tool. The new one doesn’t. I guess they thought adding a hole would negate the “engineering” to make it lighter. 😂
Wow, after watching your video I saw where the tool is stored! Thank You!😊
DHS790 has a corded adapter so full stop! I don't see how the DCS781 can compete with the DHS790 that has the flexibility of cordless and corded power.
Only problem is the ac adapter is linked to premature motor failure. Google it, most complaints about the 790 was motor failure from people running it on AC. I have never used my ac adapter and never had an issue. Love the DHS790, wish dewalt had made a better ac adapter, but don't really miss tripping over the cord.
@@notslowtube Thanks for the info I did look it up. Also found that the 790 has a recall in Canada because of : The miter saw’s rear safety guard can break or detach, posing an injury hazard due to projectiles that can strike the user and bystanders and a laceration hazard to the user who could come into direct contact with the saw blade.
@@ScorchedEarth-s5k The recall was for all of the 12" saws 2019-2023, corded too. Dewalt cheaped out on the rear guard that catches stray material during a cut. They'll send you the metal version for free, so not a big deal. The plastic version can break if wood impacts it.
I wonder if the 60V saw can big easier if you cut big beams too fast. I think the DHS790 has more torque than the corded saw. It doesn't bog.
Great Saw Thanks For The Review 🔨📐✏️🪚👍🏽
No problem 👍
Rediyl tyre katne wala koi masin hai
The 790 is better in every aspect.
So the new one seems worse in most ways
The 781 is 5 lbs lighter and only one battery (another 3 lbs)
The DeWalt dolts should've equipped this unit with an optional 120VAC plug-in feature JUST LIKE THE DHS790. They want to FORCE customers to buy more batteries!! I'm skipping this model...
i would like a 60volt adapter for the dust extractor, and table saw. would be a big adapter, the reason they have a 120 adapter is becasue the motor can run on 120volt ac, as well as the dc from the batteries
Exactly! They took a fantastic option and ditched it. Sooooo tired of these marketing manouvers
I have the 790 and never used my AC adapter. I do not use it because everyone says that adapter burns up the motor. I also have the flex tablesaw and her they were supposed to release an AC adapter for that. I heard that’s why they never released it because of the problems with AC adapter burning up to 790 motor.
