Thanks you for the shout out 😅😊, I decided to work on my saw after I watch your video, I'm glad that you'd work out because I'm not a tech, I just like to try to fix stuff wheen they break instead of throwing them away thanks again for your great videos 🎉
Just a friendly general note to everyone working with their hands: when using your thumb with a lot of force, it’s worth being cautious. Overusing it instead of relying on tools can potentially damage the cartilage in your thumb joint and lead to inflammation. Taking care of your thumbs now might save you some trouble down the road! BTW I love what you're doing!
I wouldn't say it's a mistake, if you don't know something; but I agree how such a small change can make a tool go from dead/useless to back in action.
I love a man/woman that admits that they don't know everything. The biggest trick before the internet, was where to find the answer. The internet has made it easier. I've learned more in the past year, about fixing my tools, than I did in the previous 48. Dean, you're awesome! Aside from that, have you ever worked on stuff old enough to be badged Walters/Metabo at the same time, or Holtzer when they made hand held tools?
YES!!! This is what community is ALL ABOUT. If this mindset would find its way to the leaders of companies and countries, we would have a lot less troubles in the world. Thanks to all the people out there, to share their knowledge and let us learn.
This is an excellent example of True Wisdom of the Masses. Somebody helps Dean out of a bit of a pickle and he's then able to help his customer and save a tool and a good bit of money. Excellent result!
@jose83771 Thanks for the tip & help with fixing the saw! It's so nice to get help like this from the comment section community which helped @deandohertygreaser get this all sorted out! These saws are very popular with alot of framers. They're really powerful and will cut lumber all day long on one or maybe 2 batteries if that. I have the regular sidewinder type 20v version(dcs570) and have no problems cutting all day with that one, i can only imagine how much stronger & powerful this one is! Anyways, Thanx again! 👌🏻👍🏻🛠️🔧🔩⚙️🗜️✏️📐📏🦺 ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻
I'd also recommend updating the original video in some way to show that the repair failed because you made a mistake so that people dont try to use it as a guide Or something. Add it to the title, description maybe a pinned comment or probably best yet add a clip about it to the video if you can. Also it is very interesting to see you make a mistake and then learn from it. Really gos to show that even the most experienced techs are still learning.
I think the tacho (rotary encoder) is only used for starting the motor, when its rotating the controler could use field coil feedback to know when to switch the field phases, and also compare the tacho with the field feedback so it can self diagnose if the tacho magnet isnt positioned correctly, how would it 'know' otherwise.
I have a 54v saw but not worm drive does same thing but never been apart do you think they can move well done dean for sharing the info. Do you think dewalt would have disclosed this information?
I think marking it before taking it apart are some wise words. It seems possible in this case (logic not experience so please correct me if you know better) for the position magnet to be 90 degrees out and still look lined up but have north and south poles back to front.
A pity that someone from Dewalt hasn't got your videos under surveillance to also chip in with solutions! It wouldn't take much for Dewalt to put an obvious, alignment mark on that component.
DeWalt doesn't really want us to fix our tools, they want you to send them in to an authorized repair facility or back to them directly. Or even better for them[DeWalt] is to go buy a new one all together rather than disassemble a tool and potentially do something wrong on assembly causing something to injure you. The ol' liability thingy ya know! 🛠️🔧🔩🦺👍🏻👌🏻 ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻
is there a way this could happen to the saw without being disassembled? i have a dcs570 saw and it did the jolting and stopping and it killed one of my batteries then stopped doing anything altogether. i checked the trigger and battery contacts and they all seems fine.
@@deandohertygreaser ahh bugger, im assuming thats the box thats fully sealed with the cables going to the motor? is it possible to fix if i somehow got into it or nah?
Anyone know were to actually buy them magnets? I broke on on a grinder when working on it and cant find them anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👏
Duh!!! DeWalt had better wise up!! Even though they sell a butt-load of power tools, this type of trade secret will help them lose a butt-load of customers. Wee southeast Texan, Jim
It would still be guess work since the armature didn't have any markings. With this magnetic film he sort of proved the concept of this particular magnetic ring.
As interesting as the video was, you spent a good 5 minutes repeating the same thing over and over again about how the magnet needs to be in a set position
Thanks you for the shout out 😅😊, I decided to work on my saw after I watch your video, I'm glad that you'd work out because I'm not a tech, I just like to try to fix stuff wheen they break instead of throwing them away thanks again for your great videos 🎉

You obviously have the aptitude for this 👌👍
Saved a working man a lot of hard earned dough....Well done pal.👍
I love how random people take time and knowledge they gathered over time and share it in places like these. I have a deep appreciation for that.
Well, I like positive and civil comments like yours, StarlightStream!
Dean provides a heap of useful info for free. So I’m sure the commenter has got something out of his videos too.

Such a small and simple mistake, made such a huge difference. As you say, in work like this, you're always learning new stuff.

Great teamwork 👍👍👍
So basically you have to mark the magnetic sensor, draw a line with it and the motor and put it back in the same place.
That is very cool
I love learning something new 👍

Maybe next time you can put a line up mark on the amature before removing the bearing

Hi Dean, great video! What is the film you used to show the fields?
magnetic viewing film. its very cheap but comes in handy
ah just like the master learning from the students
.... am I the only one who is amazed that Dan "Doctor Who" just pulls some magic paper from his wallet to see the magnets working ...?!
Do you have a link to the original attempt at repair?

if the motor is not attempting to start at all now, if would say your motor controller has burnt up.
@@deandohertygreaser ahh bugger, im assuming thats the box thats fully sealed with the cables going to the motor? is it possible to fix if i somehow got into it or nah?
Just a quick tip with all due respect. "Jose" is pronounced like ho-zay. Spanish for "Joseph." Again, with all due respect. 👍

Hi,
How you call the green card? And where we can find out
Dean, why are you entirely ignoring the white mark, it is there for a reason?
I have a feeling his name is pronounced Hozay. Not Josie Jose
Duh!!! DeWalt had better wise up!! Even though they sell a butt-load of power tools, this type of trade secret will help them lose
a butt-load of customers. Wee southeast Texan, Jim
Get a good old skil or Makita corded worm drive and you'll not probably be needing repairs.
So at this point I would watch my own video and see where that mark was before you took it apart. So no guess work 😕
At 6.19
It would still be guess work since the armature didn't have any markings. With this magnetic film he sort of proved the concept of this particular magnetic ring.
Only thing you can do is mark shaft and magnet while the are in place. So you can reassemble them later at the correct position.
Nice video and learning. One small thing, I assume their name is José which is pronounced "hoe-zay", not josie. Cheers
Congrats for not giving it up
As interesting as the video was, you spent a good 5 minutes repeating the same thing over and over again about how the magnet needs to be in a set position
I do that a lot.
