Great explanation - as you sum it up: Anything that makes your brain think you are eating food will stop the MMC - and any kind of artificial sweetener will do this. Furthermore, we should eat in discrete meals, not graze, snack, etc....
What I am wondering about is herbal tea blends drunk between meals, including after dinner? Many of them are incredibly satisfying - no sweeteners listed, but I wonder if the brain might still think we are eating? I especially use Celestial Seasonings Zinger blends - and other brands of blends with ginger, turmeric, etc.

Do you think that plain sparkling water like Topo Chico messes with the MMC? (I mean 0 calories, only carbonated water) And do you think sparkling water with only “natural flavoring” and carbonated water messes with the MMC (drinks like La Croix)?

Probably not profoundly, if I had to guess.

That's not the right question regarding "natural flavoring" - it isn't whether it affects the MMC, but instead why are you ingesting 100s of chemicals, some of which are "forever chemicals" hidden in the "natural flavors" of carbonated water? Whether it disrupts MMC or not is so far away from the "forever chemicals" in that water it's not even funny!

Hi. Does salt water or lemon water interrupt mmc?

Nutrition made simple pointed to the following study which he said was by far the highest quality. You thoughts please? "High-dose saccharin supplementation does not induce gut microbiota changes or glucose intolerance in healthy humans and mice "

Would this also apply to other sweeteners like monk fruit and erythitol?

Great question! Yes, I believe so. Basically, if your brain has a reason to believe you are eating food then it will shut off the MMC.

I wonder if sweeteners that do not spike blood sugar (because they don't trick your brain into thinking we need insulin) actually are perceived as "food" at all. Artificial sweeteners cause an insulin spike because your brain is tricked into doing so. I'd think that the brain is either tricked or it isn't and if you don't produce insulin in response to stevia or monk fruit, you don't do anything with it at all. But that's just a layman's guess.

It's my understanding that if you eat artificial sweetener (classically understood like aspartame) you get an insulin spike. But, if you consume a natural no-calorie sweetener like stevia you do _not_ get that insulin spike. So, doesn't that imply that it doesn't affect the MMC, either? How can the brain be tricked in one way but not another by ingesting the same substance?

Thank you for this, I’ll move my morning matcha (with stevia) closer to my breakfast time instead of in between meals and I’ll be trying my herbal iced teas plain

If you watch the video I explain that stevia is probably fine if you use it with a meal or dessert. It only gets iffy if you snack a lot or if you use it to sweeten things between meals (i.e. coffee, tea, soda). Hope that helps!
