the intro for the artists was fire as hell but no one talking about the opener for the turtles. each turtle attacked their respective artist. leo mentioning leonardo da vinci's aerial screw helicopter, mikey mentioning he's a pristine sistine (chapel) (michelangelo) nunchuka (plus the bebop and rocksteady line was also fire), raph with the "put you back in school", which is the name of the painting raphael painted "The School of Athens", which is ALSO the artists background for the rap, and donnie mentioning Donatello's sculpture the Gattamelata. just pickin them apart and its so heat

I appreciate it now, but they still lost in my opinion.
I'd say the rap of the turtles has a very rare quality, first it sounds completely imbecile but the more you think about it the more profound it gets.
Look at the colors for each, Donatello purple for both, Michaelangelo orange for both, etc
I've watched this video at least 30 times over the years and I'm still noticing stuff. I was in the shower and thinking, why did they say an Italian boot to the halfshell? Why a boot specifically? No one's taking about "I'm a rap god and you can't quite touch me". First of all he's clearly referencing Eminem with "rap god" and Eminem has a song called "you can't touch me". But what goes crazy is that he reaches out like Michelangelo's famous Creation of Adam painting, meaning that "can't quite touch me" is also referencing Adam and God nearly touching hands. Actually insane for that

I love how Rhett and Link start it lower energy, but strong with their delivery and rhymes and allow space to build and then Anthony comes in, everything explodes and Ian hammers it so hard in his delivery. Like if I was in a rap battle and witnessed those four before I went....um....I'd go home immediately and mic drop in shame. The Turtles' lines are good too but goddamn that intro is incredible.
I so much agree! I immediately loved Link's cadence and flow as well as Rhett's while thinking 'well they've done so many great songs on their own channel' before immensely enjoying Ian and Anthony's for the way they brought up the energy and hit it home.

And also because they didn’t get nearly enough time. This ERB is offensively short, like, it’s frustrating. Lloyd and Peter really needed to put more effort into this one.

It's really good, but Guy Fawkes vs Che Guevara might be my favorite. Minimalist perfection. Add in Mother Teresa vs Sigmund Freud and you have the three best beats on the channel.

So many of the bars in ERB are so clever that they totally flew over my head as a kid, which is why they’re so great to revisit. For example as a kid I never fully understood Michelangelo’s “I’m a rap God and you can’t quite touch me” until I actually saw The Creation of Adam and then when I came back for nostalgia years later it finally clicked. Seriously so good.

The costumes are so good. The poses for Donatello and Michaelangelo holding the pizza at the end were so cool, like actual teenagers

This is controversial, but this battle is my favorite. The fact that GMM and Smosh were in it together years before they knew they would be working together, the entire fire opening verse by the artists, the flow, the costumes, the absolute bop of a beat, and the entire battle is just so lively and fun

yeah, but i think they didn't fully flesh out the tmnt's verses. probably because the artists were youtube celebrities so they wanted to make their verses good. they could have thrown in more disses and better flow while making it longer for the turtles if they wanted to.
