I've been crying for hours since matpat has announced he's leaving UA-cam 😭
A distinction I made is that Poison has more openly sad lyrics accompanied by a bittersweet instrumental, while Addict tries to hide its sadness under a vibrant song. It's like seeing two ways of Angel expressing what he's gone through.
This poison song is the most emotional song I’ve ever seen and heard
It seems that Addict is what he shows the rest of the world, while Poison is how he really feels inside beneath his facade, Its both sad and interesting!

A lot of the people digging against the original voice of Angel take shots at the autotune in Addict. But its not there because Michael can't sing. Its there to match his voice to the EDM style. Its an aesthetic choice. Not a corrective choice. MIchael is a fine singer. But Viv's vision of her show was more specific that people that could sing fine. She wanted full broadway production. And the abilities that come with that which go beyond people that are just good at singing. She is the creative vision behind the show and while I loved the VAs from the pilot I want to see where Viv's vision can take this story. So I am eager to see what the new cast can do with it.

Actually no, it is because he couldn’t really hold a note as Angel. He’s mentioned before that singing as Angel would put strain in his voice.

They ARE veeeery similar. We don't really need to pick one of them. We can love them both but this toxic kids are always ready for another pointless holy war. The real drama around Angel Dust is this va's fans fight. It's a shame. Btw the guy Cherrie sings about is her former boyfriend who has died as well. And they're both from Australia. ❤

This is amazing, the new actor does sound like younger angel dust. 😅
For me it's like in Addict... Angel Dust is in a really bad place and more or less trying to hide from it as well as hide it from others. Then afterwards when his living in the hotel he's beginning to heal. Resisting it at first because he doesn't know if he can trust that the people there genuinely care about him. That's why he sounds different in Poison when he's starting to acknowledge everything. He's less raspy and more open.
As far as the voices, it's human nature to become attached to things. And Michael Kovach has been the voice of Angel for years now even if we only officially got the pilot. People just don't like change. But both do an amazing job. I'll miss Michael as the speaking voice I think, but I'll also enjoy Blake Roman as the new voice. As far as singing, you can tell that Blake is actually a very talented singer, which wasn't Michael's specialty. Which, of course if this is supposed to be akin to a Disney musical about a princess in Hell, AND it's being officially produced by an official studio, it's a no-brainer that they would want to hire people who can act and sing professionally. I'll miss Michael for sure. But if you've made it this far with your creative process, why wouldn't you want it to be top tier? Don't hate. Please respect everyone who made this happen and everyone who is committed to making Hazbin Hotel as good as it can be. And Michael's flare for the character is still there in Blake's performance.
I’m in love with both songs both Addict and Poison, they are so good, even with the voice change I think the new voice fits poison and the old voice fits Addict.
They both display Angel’s emotions but Poison is more open about it sound wise, and Addict is more open visually
I would probably have to hear them side by side because they sound very very similar to me. Both voices strike me as Angel.
I don't know why people are upset about angels new VA, if I'm being honest his voice changed the least of all the cast especially husk and Charlie/Vaggie. Don't get me wrong Keith David sounds amazing as husk and the va's for Charlie and vaggie are good but angel dusts va sounds pretty close and I like it 👌

I am a theater kid though i love the og voice actor Blake Roman slays Angel Dust
The way I look at it is that yeah angel's voice sounds a bit younger. Which honestly makes sense if u just look at the show. As of rn we don't know when after the pilot ep 1 will take place. But it's safe to assume it most likely will take place after the pilot. Drugs are known to make people groggy, tired, etc. Which would explain why angel's voice in the pilot was more like that. Now if we assume the Charlie is actually able to keep angel somewhat sober most likely his voice would go back to a more calm and less groggy sounding tone.
Even the two songs tell one story. Addict telling the story of how he is addicted to drugs, alcohol and arguably lust. And how he got addicted to them. In addict though angel was still with the mentality that. Their in hell. Everyone is gonna sin. Bad things are going to happen. And if I just defend myself a bit more I'll be fine. This isn't going to do harm to me.(working for Valentino, the drugs, alcohol)
In poison it's telling the story of how he is realizing that what Valentino did wasn't right even if they're in hell. That Valentino is just using him and manipulating him. It also shows that angel is realizing that the way he is living with his addiction (drugs, alcohol) could potentially kill him in one sense or another. The term "your poison" could mean a couple things. The shitty stuff Valentino has done, angel could blame some of his addiction on Valentino, or just his addiction in general. Or it could refer to all three.
From addict to poison there is a clear sense that angel is becoming more self aware.
Also neither VA for angel should be attacked for that stuff. They were good and happy till y'all gotta bring the pointless drama. Like. It shocked me that so many people didn't get that a pilot is subject to change. It's just something to give u a basic layout for what a series is gonna be like. Some are cannon others aren't. Like i feel if some of these people saw the pilot of adventure time or Steven universe compared to the series they'd fucking loose it.
Also the comments of people saying Michael Kovak can't sing are kinda ridiculous. Like maybe it's just me but he sounded pretty good in addict. And yeah. There was a good bit of auto tune. Pretty sure that was to fit the vibe they wanted for the song. And yeah. They changed VAs. Viv envisioned Hazbin as like I won't say full on Broadway but yeah- some VAs may not continue a role cause they don't think they could fit the envisioned role. Etc.
Just to add, Michael Kovak CAN sing, that's a true, but he can't sing in character as Angel Dust, sing as Angel force his voice too much, he can't keep the notes, was hard to him (because it's too different of his common voice), Blake have a voice that naturally sounds similar to Angel's voice (you can check his songs), he is not forcing his voice to be in character so to him is more comfortable to do it.
Both do a great work thou, I like them both, I don't understand the fandom fighting (specially 'cause they song quit similar)

I will say, Blake Roman doesn't have a "certain" quality that Michael Kovach does...but i can't quite put my finger on it...almost like more experience? More cigarettes? Like a stripper for 10 years(atleast)?
Not to say that Michael smokes or is a stripper, but that his inflection and his accent really paired well to make a great concept of an Adult Entertainer

I have actually watched the show, and the only real difference in the voices was Husker.
5:00 they dont have anything better to do so they made us also waste our time.
So the character shown with Cherri Bomb was her father. He led her to do a suicide bombing when she was living.

It’s good know that Michael will stay as the voice of Rocky in the LackaDaisy series , since it won’t be promoted by a big studio like A24. I mean he’s got more of the grit in his voice that I feel fits Angel. I’ll have to get used to the new VA once the show comes out, I’m not too upset about a lot of the others VA’s being recast. Just Angel Dust is all, I know he’s on Murder Drones and Jax in the Amazing Digital Circus made by SMG4 watched both and they’re amazing!!!

It's already stated that Hazbin Hotel gonna be more a musical tv series. So there will be more songs :) Though it's more about the sinners the story gonna be a lot more darker. I think it will have funny moments (just like the pilot) but less tho like in Helluva Boss.
