    After many years of doing Web Development, I decided to go into Car Detailing (crazy carrier change) with my wife! I watch almost all your videos for two days and started my business. I've been doing these for three weeks and I have more clients than I can handle (I got my niche) Too much to learn but I'm getting better every day.

    Like your ideas good pointers on starting a detail business. although your time seems long for one job. at ford me and a coworker would average 3 to four maybe five cars on good day all complete used car details for the lot. Would love to have my own business but seems too risky and I would get mad to much lol

      Thanks. Dealership work vs retail work (your own business) are two completely different worlds. Give it a try :)

    Any advice on insurance for the detail business?

    • @pbakai182
      @pbakai182 7 років тому +1

      I asked Oscar about this just last night as well. Why pay $1000 a year on garage insurance if I'm only making $2k for my first year in sales.

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  7 років тому

      Yeah, as @pbakai182 said. You're only going to detail a handful of cars the first several months. Most of which will be friends/family members

      Detail Groove I got you but, I'm only 6wks in and I'm just over $2500. Not bragging, I'm out here hustling I'm sure most are. I got 4 kids at home. So I'm money and quality motivation!! I just don't want to make a mistake and not be covered.

      Thanks for the kind words Robert! An alternative, have a separate account for errors. Put $100 per month and build it up. That will be your insurance

      I had it for about 2 years. Then it started peeling so I figured I'd just take it off altogether. 1) Having my car wrapped didn't generate any customers. 2) I like the way it looks without it wrapped lol. 3) Less eyes for people to want to see what tools I have in there

    Hey Oscar, what are your thoughts on someone (me) that moved to a new State and does not have any family, friends etc to help grow a detailing biz that I had in my prior State (California)? My detailing prior to moving was constant and successful, but now it seems like a brand new business without any clients and on top of that I moved to Omaha Nebraska where winter is terrible versus California where it didnt stop the ball rolling, but here it will when your hit with snow, ice and temps that are going to be crazy! Just wanting yours and other peoples thoughts? Thanks

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  7 років тому

      Great question! When you were in Cali, was most of your business from word of mouth and referrals?

    • @otispotis47
      @otispotis47 7 років тому

      Yes it was. I grew up in Cali and knew people, so even though I did some marketing I had almost to many people that would fit into my time available!

      Todd Dyer I moved to Ohio from CT last year. I have a facebook page for my detailing business and I promote details I do from my page. Definitely got a lot of attention from doing that. Also having people write reviews on my page helped. Having a website and leaving business cards around helps a lot too I've noticed. On the back of my cards I have my facebook page, instagram, and website

    • @King_drew

      @Joseph Reed use a biodegradable chemical that will lift up the stains. Keep agitating the spot, properly, until you see progress on the area. If you have a drill w/ brush, use it to expedite the agitation portion. I use super clean for all interior (it is a biodegradable degreaser). If the spot is going to be very difficult, do that spot last (after initial survey of vehicle to be clean). Clean the rest of interior, since that spot with take the most time and effort. Always be efficient and effective! I am a new auto detailer and that is something I recognized.

    So I’m guessing whenever you work 10
    Hours leaving out your own mistakes you make at least 300-400 from that 10 hour day? Basically you can’t get any more premium than 10 hours?

    Hey man,
    I’ve been watching your channel for awhile. Maybe you can help me with this. I’m about to get my mobile business official, but I’m pretty stuck on the marketing side of it. I have a FB page with 5 star reviews, and a ton of before and after photos. That has also been my main way of getting customers over the years while being a driveway detailer, but now that I’m moving up, I’m wondering about alternatives to gain customers as oppose to posting fb groups all day. Any advice would be much appreciated man.
    Thank you, and keep up the great work with the channel!

    12 hour detail ? That’s a lot of time . I work for carmax and it’s expected for us to wash,clay bar and scrub the rims and pressure wash the engine in a 20min pace time. After it goes to Exterior detail. It’s also a 20min pace it doesn’t matter if it has water spots or acid spots . We need to remove all of those along with wet sand the scratches and to apply touch up paint. Interior detail also has 20mins to detail all the interior with a 20 min pace. They removed pet hair,sand, dirt and all keep kinds of stains.

      Dealer detailing and used car set up are different than retail detailing but I'm sure you know that.

    • @otispotis47
      @otispotis47 7 років тому +3

      Carmax must not want a good job, because at a pace like that a detailer cant do much to make a car Pop! ?

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  7 років тому +2

      Yeah, low quality production detailing (no offense, that's just how huge dealerships work) vs high quality- low production detailing is completely different. Dealerships have to turn those things around ASAP.

    • @1818magik
      @1818magik 7 років тому

      I agree we try to recondition a car that hasn’t been wash or vacuum in years in onehour . We do have our standards for used cars. We do use rupes and DeWalt buffers with high end ccompounds . Along with other cleaning products that I can’t say(sorry) but it’s high end stuff . What makes us very efficient is that we have everything at hands reach and we work in teams of 3 .

    • @1818magik
      @1818magik 7 років тому +1

      We take pride in what we do not a lot of people can handle a rotary DeWalt buffer .it takes months and months of practice to master . As Oscar can tell you detailing is very difficult and takes months and years to master the techniques in exterior and interior detailing. But anyways I’m a big fan of your channel and thanks to you I’m closer to start my own detailing business .
