If you're a sole proprietorship like me, there's only so much you can do. When you first become introduced to a lull in the detailing season, just make sure you keep your chin up and stay positive. When I first started, I was so hopelessly infatuated with becoming "the best". I was running myself ragged and it didn't get me anywhere. Realize that results take time, and you have to be okay with that. Also take the time to celebrate the milestones you've made, and resist the urge of possessing a "only the strong survive" mentality.
I am so glad I found this channel, it has changed my thinking. I am currently in the midst of a tough spot on deciding with either continuing on my current degree. Or changing it and at some point starting my own detailing business. The truth is detailing is fun and feels like a hobby to me. I don't want to be forced into working a boring 9-5. My family has been very supportive and I know it will be tough. But I have the motivation to do it now.
YUP! There's a lot of potential in a detailing business, but only if you actually know what you're doing. Think like a CEO, not just a technician. Best of luck!
I love this channel.. Im starting a mobile detail business, I've been detailing vehicles for almost 25 yrs. You give insight on how to approach things without freaking out about on how to go about things. I'm trying to make a hybrid package so i can use waterless products and some traditional products too. sometimes water isn't avaible and seems to be a better option.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your XP, I’m also in the Houston area, I think I’m not reaching the audience that values their vehicles nor the value of the service, how do you reach high-end customers? Thank you again
Thanks for the kind words! I don't go for high-end clients. I go for people that value quality work and are able to spend money reflecting said quality. Personally, search engine optimization (SEO), was the biggest game changer for me.
Oscar, a other great informative video, when I finish watching one of your videos I I must go out and detail a vehicle thanks for yet another great one!!
Awesome video!!!....I would like to know when can I scale my mobile detail business into my second van?....am I going to send my team home once it rains or what factors should I worry about when making a commitment in to hiring personnel???
Love the videos bro, but could we get one addressing the taxes/business licensing section of starting? I have my brushes and steamer ready to go, but have no idea where to start with the aforementioned.
For taxes, I would highly suggest you contact a CPA in your area. Just starting off, you're going to make such little money, it's not going to be worth it. But as you grow, you want to be in constant contact with your CPA
Find out yourself and go out and do it. You don't make or do a business hearing what other detailers make a month. Then it wouldn't be a business. Most detail businesses get started as side work, one or two cars a month if lucky, and growing it over periods of times through advertising, referrals, and others. Or, just do the math, most mobile detailers charge $180 for full interior or exterior details for sedans. I charge $100 for full interior details on a Sedan, $120 exterior. 7-8 cars a week, twenty cars a month...
Hi Oscar. Do you need a business license and/or business insurance to start detailing? More importantly insurance. What if you accidentally damage a customers vehicle somehow. Thanks! Love your channel and videos.
Thanks for the kind words! The business license, you'll want to do some Google searching for your city/county. Maybe there's some permanents, licenses, or strict guidelines you need to follow (i.e., absolutey NO runoff water). When you're first starting off the first 3 to 18 months, you're going to have verryyyyy little customers. So I wouldn't bother with insurance until you see you have a steady stream of customers coming in
Hi a quick question do you have goals and do they manifest or is it up and down thanks Im looking at do from 1 car a weak to 5 cars a day how do i take that leap thanks
Detail Groove in life there is no garantee but there are successful and unsucessfull i suppose its the steps we take and people we around that makes the biggest difference
Great video bro ! I've been wanting to go pro for a long time , my goal is to get the gear I need and a van and make it happen . the van might be an old beat up van and cheaper tools but at least it will get me started , I can upgrade as I go .
You should start your business within the next 30 days. Don't worry about the van, truck, or getting all the tools and products that you think you need. I (and so many others) worked out of our personal cars like sedans and wagons. START NOW.
@@DetailGroove how did you work out of your car? To be a detailer you need water to rinse off dirt and snow foam etc, a big ass water tank isn't going to fit in your car, unless you had a way around it???
Hey man been watching a lot of your videos, been detailing for a few years as a hobby and I have a griots buffer even older than yours haha, but I’m thinking about starting a little side business and he only real tool I have is the polisher, no steamer or power washer, what do you recommend? Also, when you go mobile, what do you do for a water and power supply? Thanks for the helpful videos!
Here's a list of tools and products that I use: detailgroove.co/resources/ I use the customers power and water (although I do have a generator as well).
Detail Groove thanks man really appreciate your videos, I work full time for the postal service but I’m looking to get something going that I can really focus on in the summer when I have more daylight to work with haha, learned a lot from you thank you for these videos!
what products would you suggest me also being in a very hot climate in Phoenix Arizona I'm going to be starting my detail business I have $2,000 to work with for product and tools I have already bought my Harbor Freight da
great video man I've been watching almost all your videos lately and studying off them. I do got a question though thats more personal and I understand if you don't wanna answer it but that question is .. about how much do you think you make a year man? I know things can differ a loooooot in your business but what would you say an estimate is? or a range? but besides that man I love all your videos I need to find other ones that show a little more of your outside washing cause of all the rinsless and waterless wash stuff haha but keep it up man you rock!
I won't give you my exact numbers, but a general range one can make (give my knowledge of my market and cost of living and demand for services), you can make between $10K to $50K pretty easily once you have the marketing, sales, and operations down (which takes a few years).

If I'm just starting out would I need to get a business license right away? Or is it a certain amount of money i would need to make before being considered a business and have to report it
Honestly, just start right now. If you start making money, go talk to a CPA or hire a bookkeeper. The reality is, you're going to face so many hurdles and obstacles the first 3 to 9 months, you don't want to overwhelm yourself and spend all that time, money, and energy on stuff you don't really need
Oscar I'm getting a car on the 6th of January and wish to start asap. Do you have a video on essential equipment you need to start a detailing business? Also is it viable doing this out of a 4 door saloon?
Yes, I've seen plenty of people (myself included) starting off with a sedan, wagon, or coupe. Here's a list of common tools and products I use: detailgroove.co/resources/

Charles Lahey same here man, people think it's just about cleaning cars but it's so much more than that. Good luck to you man.
Carlos Ramirez Thank You Brother, same to you!

Yep- I always go with a rinseless option!
2018 advice still heat!!!

Detail Groove awesome, I read on the IRS website that if your business makes more than $400, you have to report it.
Go make your first $1,000 first and then do all the business stuff
Yo, serious question..?
How much do you make a month?
On a good month and on a bad month, what would you average out?
Serious question, really? lol
Detail Groove just a question, no need to try to be sarcastic.
It's just funny lol. I thought you were going to want my tax returns as well 😂
Detail Groove thats how you treat your viewers? Pathetic...thumbs down
Find out yourself and go out and do it.

Hey oscar, what spray bottles do you use? do you have a link? and what is that bin that you store them in?
I bought the spray bottles from AutoZone/Meguiars (via AutoGeek). The gray head spray triggers were also bought from AutoGeek
What can you use with the 10-1 super clean and what can you use 4-1
You can use it on about the same areas... It just depends on how dirty it is. Most of the time, I'm using 10:1

When you're in business for yourself, there is no guarantee
Detail Groove in life there is no garantee but there are successful and unsucessfull i suppose its the steps we take and people we around that makes the biggest difference
Correcto
Detail Groove also i heard if something can be mearsured then you can deliberately hit everyone of your goals you set thats garanteed
Hi. Happy new year !! Hey do you use a water tank in your car ? If so what size is it ? 30 gallon ? 60 gallon ?
Happy New Year! And no, I do not have a water tank or pressure washer
Good tips! I’m a business student and this really helps! I wish nothing but success to you 💪🏻
Thanks a lot and good luck with your business journey!
