Same here, I loved that the examples are written down in the complete form and then in the way that it is used, I can make assumptions in my head while he's explaining and check it out seconds later if I did understood.

HI Tom, this is really handy.... studying Italian but all the teaching is in Italian and all your questions have to be in Italian-which I can handle but if you want to ask a fairly nuanced grammar question it ends up like the song "There's a hole in my bucket...". Excellent and am sending a link to the rest of the class. Thanks Stefan

I've been learning Italian for about 6 days now and this video is a bit overwhelming. lol Don't get me wrong, all your videos are great and you're teaching me a lot, but I think I better just learn like a baby learns their mother tongue. I'm of course Italian, but we never spoke it in my family. I've wanted to learn my whole life and now with my operatic studies, I must learn it! Not to mention French and German!
Do you have any great tips for me? Have you made a "tips" video for beginners? I'm using Rosette Stone, listening to Rai radio, watching Rai TV, and reading in Italian. And of course, watching your videos.
    Keep the videos coming.
    ciao
PS Wish me "In bocca al lupo" as I continue this journey.

We don't tag the direct pronoun at the end of the verb in the infinitive form only when there is a modal verb in the sentence as in: Devo comprarlo; but also when we form a sentence in the imperative mood (except for the personal pronouns
-lei, loro- ovviamente) as in: compralo!, parlatemene!, ascoltatemi bene!.

Grazie mille Tom! Your lesson has totally helped but I'm struggling with what appears to be a slightly different use of object pronouns, for example: Io mi sveglio alle otto. As I understand it this means; I get up at 8, but I don't understand the benefit in adding mi in this instance. Am I actually saying I get myself up at 8? Thanks very much!

    •  5 років тому

Ciao Alex, great question. Exactly, “mi sveglio” can mean “I wake up” or “I wake myself up.” Basically Svegliarsi comes from the Reflexive verb group, which are verbs in which the person doing the action is also the receiver of the action. The Reflexive pronouns are very similar to Object pronouns but they have a slightly different use. I’ve got a video on UA-cam and a Weilà University lesson on Reflexive verbs if you need some more help. Hope this helps! :)
