  • In this video we set up and use the harbor freight, central machinery, parts washer I bought last year. I used pex to plumb in a filter mounted to a remote filter base I got from NAPA. I also installed a ball valve drain to make it easier to drain and strain and reuse the solvent.

Yep the parts washer is a win for sure. I think an occasional draining and wipe out will extend the fluid life. And since I'm cheap that's a win too. LOL. Thanks for watching Dave!

What parts did you use for the valve? I have an older parts washer and it seems its a bigger thread then other mentions of 14mm. Mine seems to be 15mm thread.

Is the oil filter worth it?

Hi Charlie; Yeah I think it is. The valve and short stub on the drain is good too. It really helps when you can drain and clean up the bottom of the parts washer. also you can strain he fluid before you put it back in. sooner or later if you use it enough the fluid will be shot but its kinda $$$ so might as well get as much as ya can out of it. Thanks for the comment!! John

Hmm. Seems logical and this is probably done in big shops. I can't remember a Home Garage that had a pump that worked. Everyone I've ever seen is just a part washer that LONG ago had the pump fail so guys just soak their parts, maybe swish 'em around every once and a while and use a brush. Seems to work.

Hi ModelBuilder; Yeah the thing still works. And its been a while. I have also let it settle out and having the ball valve allows us to drain and strain the fluid. With a lot of solids to scrape off the bottom of the tub. Thanks for commenting!! John
