@@rodm5830 the company i use to work for had a popt and pan washer "turbowash" that worked off the aggregation of the wash water. The air hose does the same thing. Especially if you want to soak a part. ua-cam.com/video/NFI5R-8QmdM/v-deo.html
The Air agitates the cleaning fluid ,and does help to clean when you just lay parts in tank. I used a fuel oil tank with an air line with 6 ft of copper line with small holes drilled in it and set a engine block in tank and turned on the air closed the lid and let it clean the block ,heads or whatever worked Great !
The air is there to break the surface tension on oil. Oil is lighter than water-based solvent. We use that in machine shops to prevent good bacteria (which requires air) from dying and rendering the solvent rancid.
Thanks for the follow up on the awesome sauce! I believe I’ll drain the diesel fuel out of my vat and give it a try. And I never seen a vat with the agitator, but that’s a great idea! I might just have to make one for my own. I believe 1/4” copper tubing running straight across the front would do the trick.
Great ideas, Love the "Awesome stuff" us it to clean my $60 sable brushes - removing dry paint and all sorts of other stuff. Building a wash station from stainless restaurant vegetable-steam-trays, (Goodwill $15!). Its a small cleaner 11 x 12. With two trays. One below holds liquid, filters, pump and heater like a fish/sump. The top tray is empty unless I plug it for a bath wash. Ill have a Thermal Control Switch. 50c/122f. ... 120f is about as hot as you need. These will control an Immersion Heater Voltage 300Watt. like coffee cup sized. Only using water based detergents in the system. Seal-All is a good glue for sealing wires it works well in fuel type liquids. Wish me luck
Great ideas! I’ll be implementing them. Have you thought about adding heat? Hot solvent cleans 100 times better. I found an instant water heater at a yard sale that I’m going to try.
I used crud cutter in my washer and kept the lid down when not in use and didnt have a high evaporating issue but it did after a few years corrode and caused a hole in the tank that I had to fix It did remove paint from some areas but not all
I used simple green didn’t use my washer for several years while sick when I opened the washer it was filled with hammerhead worms over 20. Freaked me out big time
Hopefully you see this. I know it's an old video but I was wondering how the Loc-Line is holding up. I'm in the process of changing mine over and wondering if it is worth the cost. Thanks for your time and really enjoyed the video.
The air is like boiling a part. You can put a part in the washer and let the cleaner do the work but the air moves the cleaner around making it work better.... I have a 5-gallon bucket with an air stone from a fish tank, this works get for cleaning parts with small crevices
If you watch some videos on ultrasonic cleaners bubbles will be explained in a much better way than I could explain it. Little tiny bubbles are used and apparently the mini explosions when they burst are very effective cleaners.
Yeah purple power and super clean are somewhat acidic. Totally Awesome will also remove the paint but so far it has not affected this pump I installed.
I learned years ago I could go broke buying the fancy cleaners and all them costing way too much. I use diesel fuel and it works great. The pump will last longer too because diesel is a lubricant.
This might sound stupid but could you use Evaporust in a parts washer sink? I leave parts submerged in Evaporust for weeks at a time with no ill effect whatsoever.
Not just agitation. Also, if you have some solvent in there water based that can develop bacteria. Air bubbles introduced in there will stop the anaerobic bacteria from developing which can become extremely acidic.
The aeration adds oxygen to the liquid. After oil builds (tramp oil) it grow bacteria and begins to stink. Aeration keeps the bacteria from growing. I run a fish tank aerator in my CNC mill coolant.
Good morning Martin ! I believe the air inlet is just to agitate the chemical to clean better. I am also thinking, but could be wrong, doesn't that parts box fit where the air inlet is, so the air will agitate the chemical in the box, is there a hole in the parts box to insert the air tube into it ?
Paint comes off, the original hose leaks (which probably has a plastic tube inside) and the plastic in the pump cracks. I'm guessing a common theme here. Perhaps the cleaning solvent you are using attacks some plastics? The label says concentrated - did you dilute it? If not, maybe that may help.
since the paint fell off ... why not try nickel or galvanize it ??? here on youtube there are many videos about it ... my curiosity really kills me and yes, I bought one, I would like to. Oooohhhh ... the "4.0 Liter, high output" Jeep logo !!!! years without seeing any of that !!! Here the first generation jeep cherokee used it as well as the first generation wrangler
Great video Martin...now, I purchased the Little Giant pump. I'm not an electrician but the new pump has a Blue, Brown and Green/yellow wire. Where do these wires connect to the old Black, White and Green wires. Which ones go with each other? Thanks in advance!!
Blue brown and green/yellow are for 240v connections not 120v. So if you did hook it up to 120v and it does not work well / or slow it’s because the pump is only running half power. Not too good I would think but I’m just a licensed plumber not Electrican……
I went to buy a 20 gallon parts washer today, and the fella sold me "gunwash" to fill it... Not having a clue what I am doing, I bought it. Brought that shiny thing home, tore into the box, assembled everything, and put two five gallon pails of this stuff in there.... That stuff just smells flammable, and I was concerned about plugging the unit in. So I flipped open the manual and on the last page, it says use water-based cleaning solution only. Do not use anything flammable. I look across the garage at the two empty cans of gun wash, and notice a giant flame symbol on the sides.... Needless to say, I haven't plugged anything in, I closed the lid and went and got my fire extinguisher. Can anybody tell me exactly how screwed I am?
I am struggling to discover an answer on the internet for the following three questions: 1. Is gun wash an effective solvent for cleaning engine parts, specifically in a parts cleaner? Seems to me, the answer here, is a resounding no. Gunwash is used for all sorts of things, but there is not a shred of information on the internet associating it with an automotive parts washer. 2. Will gun wash destroy the pump, or has it already shortened the life of the internal workings of the pump? 3. I feel like the store grossly misinformed me, potentially burning my garage down. Should I just take everything back and politely ask for a refund?
@@martinbuilt I have no idea what "parts washing fluid" you are referring to, because I've discovered a billion different "recipes" on the web. That's why I went to a store that sells both the washer AND solvent, but the idiots there gave me the wrong stuff. It agetates what ever you got in there to help break it loose.

Exactly
They have already said place part in and wash should be helpful with heat

1/4 pvc pipe with a lot of holes and air regulator works great and it’s easy to remove and clean bottom of washer
Nice job on the parts washer. I use the loc line hose and fitting at work. They last a long time in an industrial application.
That's good to hear.

On other parts washers ive seen that air tube was placed just behind the screen, inside the pump box, so if it plugs up, you can clear it..

The air agitate's the fluid around the parts you have soaking, to help clean them faster without you touching them.

What mix ratio did you used with the totally awesome cleaner? Or is it full strength?
Yeah I go with full strength.
If you watch some videos on ultrasonic cleaners bubbles will be explained in a much better way than I could explain it. Little tiny bubbles are used and apparently the mini explosions when they burst are very effective cleaners.
I put the purple cleaner in my parts washer it took the paint off and ate the pump. You have to add water to it. It will keep eating the pump.
Yeah purple power and super clean are somewhat acidic.
Totally Awesome will also remove the paint but so far it has not affected this pump I installed.
Love the mods. Do you dilute the totally awsome? If yes, what ratio is the best?
Thank you I appreciate that. I went full strength with the totally awesome
The air coming out of that wand could be to agitate keep things moving, just a thought

That is the best thing I have heard so far on what that is for.
The difference on the thread is istead of npt is mpt is a metric

maybe its a dryer or allows you to blow out places you cant reach if u add a hose to it

The air is to help agitate your solution, thus helping your pump from getting clogged, if you point it at your pump inlet.
Its a bubbler for soaking parts
Totally Awesome cleaner is also Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) and will eat aluminum.
What do you mean 'hammer on keys?'
Agitation. Almost like a ultrasonic cleaner
You should have put the Bottom shelf on upside down so it would have had a Lip on it to keep crap from rolling off..
Maybe I'm old school, but I can't imagine any water based degreaser being as effective as mineral based solvent
It's slower for sure, but it's cheaper, more environmentally friendly and doesn't evaporate as quickly. Just as effective tho
Aeration. keeps the chemical flowing
If not an agitator, it may be a simple drain. Do you have a drain currently?
Yes it has a drain.
