📷 Prime Lens Vs Zoom Lens - Which One Is BETTER?

Today I'm sharing my thoughts regarding prime lens vs zoom lens especially for photography, and which one is better for you and your camera. Spoiler alert: it all depends, if you need flexibility, choose zoom lens, if you want something more specific, choose prime lens.

Also, in the end of this video, I am sharing my favorite prime lenses and zoom lenses.
NOTE: I am using Micro Four Thirds camera format, so example lenses will be in Micro 4/3 format, either Panasonic Lumix lenses or Olympus lenses.

Hi Gary...Nice to see you again from UK....Liverpool Kev here...Loved your video...made me smile...I have all of your favourites except for the 14m which I sold to repurchase the 12-32...There is a UK expression 'Great minds think alike' so you made me feel very much at home haha...I have the GX80 which I know you love...The GM1 a tiny marvel...and the Olympus EM1 Mk2 twined with the 12-40 pro lens....I bought the fuji X100V 2nd hand a year ago by chance and that makes an interesting contrast to my Micro 4/3rds gear...Thank you for sharing Gary...hope you are well as usual....Liverpool Kev

Panasonic 14-140mm is my favourite lens, I am into ship photography and it is excellent for this purpose

Thanks, Gary! I've used zoom most of my life, which is quite a long time now, for the flexibility it provides. Although that could be more about the shooting situations I place myself in. We do have a prime or two but that is primarily for speed indoors or macro work. Yep, just tools!

Nowadays I use Adobe Lightroom for processing my RAW pictures, but there are other similar software. I am making a new Lightroom RAW processing tutorial right now, stay tuned! Thank you for the kind words 😁

I also like the Lumix 35-100 f4-5.6. On a trip I have paired it with the Oly 17mm f1.8. The nice thing about primes is that you cannot zoom. I've found that with a zoom, I may take longer because I have to think what is the best focal length. With a prime I have to worry only about one composition. In a way it makes it faster. I do have the Lumix 14-140, it is a very nice lens but I found it to be bulky. I am so used to small lenses.
