I actually like to use Heliolisk in the rain. It gets automatic hit thunder for electric type coverage and it's dry skin lets it heal from the rain and water attacks
Heliolisk got me thinking of what some pokemon would've been like if they were introduced in a different Gen, like if Heliolisk was introduced in Gen 5~ An Electric Gem boosted never miss Thunder and permanent rain making it's Dry Skin ability a more reliable form of recovery would've gave Heliolisk a greater niche in competitive play then anything Gen 6 and above has given the adorable solar powered lizard~
Great team. I would like to include some honorable mentions: Heliolisk (100% accurate thunders + dry skin), Ludicolo (Fake out + swift swim + grass STAB), Toxicroak (Fake out + dry skin + the poison-type for opposing grass & fairy-types), Tentacruel (Rain dish + Rapid spin + the poison type for opposing grass & fairy-types), and Gastrodon (Storm drain).
This would be a really cool team for a water type gym leader. Having a rain themed team with some non-water types would definitely increase the difficulty.
Yeah and it can help wallbreak with Banded U-turn while also gaining momentum and clean late-game with its priority Bullet Punch. It even gets Psycho Cut now to help with Toxapex. Knock Off can also provide utility by removing items. Dual Wingbeat is also a cool move to give Scizor a 120 base power Flying-type move for stuff like Amoonguss. Dual Wingbeat also 2HKOs Toxapex if you're running Swords Dance.
For me I’d just use ludicolo with rain dance and it’s not my first Pokémon so my opponent will only see my first Pokémon with nothing to do with rain when that one dies I’d have about 2-3 rain Pokémon and some defenders and attackers
That doesn’t affect Volcarona’s offensive power. The utility Umbrella only changed the multiplier for moves that are directed at the user, not the opponent.
Best Pokémon and partners for the entire Pokémon mystery dungeon games? It could help me a lot with beating my Pokémon super mystery dungeon game for the first time.
Any water attack becomes Cannonade on Gmax Toise. So a physical build with liquidation and brick break is good for checking special walls and tearing down stall teams that run screen and reflect. It optimizes damage from earthquake as well.
I remember constructing a rain team in gen 8 Pelipper for Drizzile Raichu for Lighting Rod and Thunder Drednaw Ludicolo and Barraskewda for Swift Swim And Mimikyu for coverage and taunt
I feel like Mystic missed one crucial note in his video. If you are playing by Smogon rules, either on Showdown or on console, you're not allowed to dynamax Pokemon in any tier other than Ubers, and this team is clearly not designed for VGC. If you're playing on friendly rules, however, then yes, this is a great team.
I like running a dragon dance dragonite with aqua tail for the rain boost. When hes got that speed boost he can outspeed most and hit super hard. Multiscale almost guarantees the setup too
Excadrill would also be good support cause if you give rock tomb you can lower speed and with stealth rock and pelipper excadrill and kingdra cover all their weaknesses
Heliolisk & Toxicroak can work for this team due to them both having the Dry Skin Ability. And for Heliolisk Thunder has 100% accuracy in the rain. Both of those Pokémon can heal up if a Pokémon uses a water type move on them.
I run defensive Pelipper (obligatory), defensive Ferrothorn with Rocks (Also obligatory), Defog Corviknight Banded Rapid Strike Urshifu, Specs Kingdra, and Agility Magearna. I may replace Magearna with Zapdos once that's released, since Zapdos now gets 100% accurate Thunder, Hurricane, and Weather Ball in rain. May change Corv out too for another hazard remover once I put Zapdos in.
I mean, Drizzile Pelipper would be OHKO'ed by an Alolan Raichu using a STAB 4x super effective 100% Thunder. Yeah, I get it. Knock Off is strong against Raichu-Alola's Psychic. But if the latter holds a Choice Scarf and has the right EVs and IVs, and Nature, it doesn't care.
The whole video has a ton of bad advice. Politoed is almost strictly better than Pelipper. Perish Song and Helping Hand are way better, especially given Politoed’s (relative) bulk and not having 4x weakness to lightning. Damp Rock is also overrated by a lot of people since you either a) effectively end the game in fewer than 5 turns if rain isn’t reset; or b) need to reset the rain at some point because weather setters run rampant. I’d run a set of Scald/Helping Hand/Perish Song/Icy Wind (or Protect in place of either Perish Song or Icy Wind). Ferrothorn generally runs Power Whip/Gyro Ball/Leech Seed/Protect with 0 speed IV to bring game against trick room. There’s an argument for getting rid of it in favor of a number of Pokémon post-DLC. Seismitoad is an underwhelming choice of physical sweeper, especially given the other options available in this meta. Drednaw has raw power, especially with rock smash, and a decent typing. Barraskewda is insanely fast and powerful (though flimsy). Poliwrath can have an interesting “sustain damage” set with Drain Punch/Belly Drum @ Sitrus Berry with Liquidation and Protect. Seismitoad (with rocks for some reason) just isn’t it, especially with a 4x weakness to grass in a meta dominated by Rillaboom. Kingdra is insane. Slip turn isn’t really a reason to run Kingdra, and you should probably run protect in this meta because redirection is just so damn common. I’ve seen Pikalytics recommend Muddy Water over Hydro Pump almost universally (maybe due to the aforementioned prevalence of redirection). I dunno if the reduced accuracy plus non-targeted damage is worth less overall single-target damage, but apparently yes. 🤷♂️ You’d almost certainly run Life Orb over Specs on Kingdra as it is your main sweeper on a dedicated rain team, bar none. The other supports generally being considered are: Alolan Marowak - slow Pokemon with fire typing and good moveset Incineroar - bulky Pokemon with fire typing and a diverse move pool to either control or deal damage or both Scizor - steel typing is advantageous and it can hit hard with technician bullet punch Togekiss - just a solid Pokemon with a good moveset. I’m considering using Follow Me with Poliwrath Belly Drum to set up Swift Swim Drain Punches Amoonguss - another solid Pokémon that can be very frustrating to deal with. Also on theme, it does well in trick room, which is notoriously difficult for rain teams to deal with given that the whole point of rain is high speed. Rain is also so strong in general that some people are just running Politoed/Kingdra and four other good, synergistic Pokémon. I’ve even seen trick room rain teams.
I use a defensive pelipper w/damp rock, G-max swift swim Drednaw, hydration eject pack goodra, and swift swim ludicolo. The rest of my team changes but has used toxicroak, seismitoad and ferra pretty successfully. I haven't updated since the dlc but it's a neat set :)
Gmax Drednaw is probably a better Gmax Pokémon. It’s a staple on Uber rain teams due to its sheer power combined with its ability to set stealth rocks by spamming its strongest stab move. It can even boost with swords dance if necessary.
I am currently setting up a water team to fight against a friend. the only rule he has given me is no Dragovich and all my pokemon have to have the water typing. he is a steel type trainer. so this video helped a little. X3
If I was to do a rain based team, my choice would be: Politoed (Drizzle), Lanturn (Volt Absorb), Ludicolo (Swift Swim), Kingdra (Swift Swim) G-Drednaw (Swift Swim), Tentacruel (Rain Dish). I think the possibilities are good with this team although Freeze-Dry would definitely toss a wrench in the works, but with the right attacks and strategy things should work out.
Been using this team in doubles link battles and I was hesitant about volcarona and I'm happy to admit I shouldn't have been. Volcarona and Blastiose are defo the MVP's of this team!
Any alternatives for this things? I want to make this comp but for a gen7 team. -Kindra don't learn Hurricane on GEN7. -Seismitoad can't learn Liquidation and Power Whip on GEN7 -Heavy-Duty Boots are GEN8 exclusive
can some explain to me why Pelliper + Barraskewda as a sweeper is so rarely used? in theory to me it seems like itshould be way more powerful than people give it credit for.. its basically the same excadrill + a sandstorm maker is it not? Barraskewda has such high initiative, and attack, and has the same gimmick as excadrill and will always go first, it should easily be able to sweep through everyhting right??
How about you make a imaginary elite four that focus not on type but on weathers and trains. Their team would include pokemon that set-up, use and benefit from them due to their type and abilities. Since there are four of each so it will make two nice set with great diversity.

Torkoal is one of the most used mons in the meta for weather control, which makes heliolisk lose hp instead
And with Weather Ball u will have nice coverage options against something like Venusaur, if ur opponent would bring the sun out
@@lionheart5581 Heliolisk is great under sun, getting the same hidden ability as charizard, but faster

They did this in remake BD and SP

Surprised there isn’t a Thunder user in this team.
Ah rain teams, the reason everybody had to run ferrothorn so you wouldn't get immediatly swept by mega swampert and ash-greninja in gen 7. Good times.

And my friends said I was insane for putting my beloved Volcarona on my rain team.
This is an interesting video for me as someone who loves water types.
For me I’d just use ludicolo with rain dance and it’s not my first Pokémon so my opponent will only see my first Pokémon with nothing to do with rain when that one dies I’d have about 2-3 rain Pokémon and some defenders and attackers
Btw, mystic, you could run a utility umbrella so that Volcarona’s fire attacks won’t be weakened.
Where do you find one?
Is that a new item? I have never heard of it.
That doesn’t affect Volcarona’s offensive power. The utility Umbrella only changed the multiplier for moves that are directed at the user, not the opponent.
Stealth rock still a big threat to volcarona.
Best Pokémon and partners for the entire Pokémon mystery dungeon games? It could help me a lot with beating my Pokémon super mystery dungeon game for the first time.
He's done one for Rescue Team DX. Although I would love to see what the best Pokemon are for games like Exploreres of Sky and Super Mystery Dungeon.
Any water attack becomes Cannonade on Gmax Toise. So a physical build with liquidation and brick break is good for checking special walls and tearing down stall teams that run screen and reflect. It optimizes damage from earthquake as well.

I remember constructing a rain team in gen 8
Pelipper for Drizzile

Ah yes Drizzile is a staple of rain and you can use a Pelipper to get yourself a Drizzile.
@RODRIGO GARZA SANDOVAL does Politoed learn Soak? That’s why I still use it
There's so many ways to go about a rain team I don't think there's a wrong way as long as your main core is there

You got to do sun next with torkoal/ ninetails and gmax venusaur, great vid
Would a Seismatoad with the ability water absorb, holding a life orb, and using aqua ring to heal in the rain be viable?
Yes,
Aqua ring, Waterfall, Earthquake, coverage
No
