lovely plant ! I watched the video hoping to hear how to grow it and so on. I am thinking to buy one and I m looking to know more , not very popular in UK .
It is actually very easy to grow from seeds. If you can find the seeds, you can easily grow them. Don’t over water them as the leaves seem to easily spoil with too much water.
I'm in the US In AL and bought some cutting celery which is new to me and a perilla plant popped up with them lol and also a choy sum plant which both are new to me but I put them in the ground just to see what they will do lol! I had to use my plant app to find out what it was. I grew a bunch of cutting celery and it's doing great here and easier to grow than stalk celery here so a good option.
do the leaves feel hairy? I have similar looking leaves but all green (no violet even the midrib). I wonder if its perilla or some weeds xD. Also is there a distinct smell?
There are some green versions as well. The Korean markets carry mostly the green variety. It has a mild herbal taste to it. Lots of times, good Korean restaurants sleeve if for a BBQ meal and you use the e leaves to wrap up the meat.
I actually never keep the seeds. I cut the seed pods off the plant otherwise it sucks all the energy out of the plant and the leaves don't grow very well anymore. I usually just buy more if needed at Asian store and put it in water to propagate. You can also buy the seeds from various sellers on Etsy. And I have bought some from True Leaf Market online before. That would be a great source for organic seeds!
You can get them in any Asian grocery stores nowadays. You can eat them fresh, cook with them or even cook tea out of them. Very high anti-inflammatory.
@@TastyLittleDumpling Oh I need it then too! Does the green perilla's underside leaves turn red as they grow or is there one with just green on both sides? Mine isn't red underneath but plant popped up with other seeds somehow and plant app says it's shiso perilla
I love the content, but really find the ads about poop and toilet bowl cleaner to be both disruptive and disturbing. Further more the ads are long and when I attempt to skip ads, the video starts all over again or won't start at all, let alone resume. If Google or the website are paying you for these ads, please consider you are being ripped off by the platform or access provider. I used to work for media and we always pasted up content or programmed video, so ads were placed at a mid break or end and did not interfere in any way with the feature or news story. We also only placed advertisers with compatible content. Personally, I find poop and toilet bowl cleaner paired with a great herb shiso to flavor foods to be a disgustingly poor partnership. Perhaps soba noodles or Asian food kits or soups, mail order nursery plants and seeds might be a better match.
Thank you - there is no way for me to select what types of Ads is being played. I asked YT multiple times but no answer. I am sorry. But thanks for the feedback.
Perilla leaves are often translated from Korean as “sesame leaves,” which is technically a correct translation although they aren't related to the sesame plant. So yes, you are correct! Thank you for being so attentive!
Thank you for this info, I have heard about this leaves used on cooking shows. I haven't seen one until now.

Is it safe to make tea?
Yes!!! I make a big batch in my instant pot and drink it throughout the week! Super anti-inflammatory. It keeps my back pain at bay!
@@TastyLittleDumpling how much of dried leafs do you use per cup?
