My husband just opened a BBQ restaurant. He handles all the BBQ and I bake the made from scratch desserts. I love your tutorials! My mom passed away in 2005 so I can't call her for advice anymore...but any questions I have now, I watch you! Thank you again for these wonderful tutorials.
+Sbeila Castillo That's probably one of the nicest compliments you could give somebody. How sweet (literally!)
That is such a wonderful compliment. I often watch videos too for tips.
+lies, all lies. Thank you😊
+Jackie Bautista 😊

You are so very welcome. I'm baking a German Chocolate cake right now. Hope you have a wonderful evening (if you're on CST)
UPDATE: I made this cake for my congregations hospitality & it was a HUGE HIT! Only thing I did differently is I covered the entire outside of the cake with a chocolate coffee buttercream to make it even more DECADENT! It's like u said Stephanie, this is TRULY a party cake. I can't thank you enough. Will make this again & again. O & BTW..... I SUBSCRIBED!!! 😃😄☺😊
I discovered this video back in 2015, I immediately wanted to bake this cake for Mothers day, but time passed and I continued baking and testing other recipes, last weekend I finally gave this a try and the wait was completely worth it. My family loved this cake, especially the frosting. This is the video that made me fall in love with baking, I have watched it multiple times, I guess what I enjoy the most is your passion and the love you put into teaching us. Thank you Stephanie.
I'm so thankful for the "conversion" from cups to grams... make everything easier for Europeans. Love your recipe!
If you want to make the classic German Chocolate Cake you may want to use german chocolate. I believe there is a recipe on the box of german chocolate that is the original recipe.
Oh Stephanie! I made this cake last week for my family. It was superb - thank you so very much.
Hello. I absolutely adore 'joy of baking' recipes.. So far I've done your cinnamon rolls, apple pie, banana muffins, oat bran muffins, low fat banana bread, vanilla cupcakes, irish soda bread, red velvet cake and they've all turned out wonderfully. The red velvet cake, especially was an instant hit for a birthday.
Your instructions are very calm and easy to follow that make even the toughest ones seem like a "piece of cake".
Thank you for your videos Ms Stephanie Jaworski !
Stephanie is from Canada but lives in the US. Grams are far more accurate than cups which is why she mentions them. Plus UA-cam is a world wide audience and everyone outside of North America uses grams. I suggest you watch the Weight vs Volume video and you will see why she always quotes grams and recommends Americans switch.
I would never change your recipe because it always comes out perfect. I follow what you say to the letter.
I'm making this cake today and I can't wait. It's 2:00am and I'm writing a list watching your videos I want to thank you for being so patient because of your recipes I have become a better baker and cook. Take care Shawn
We love your comments however due to our busy schedule questions on the recipes may take some time. We check our Facebook page more often so if you would like a quicker answer post your question there. A link to our Facebook page is in the description above.
Thank you so much for the amazing recipe. I made this yesterday. The cake was dense and incredibly moist. It was almost like a fudgy brownie. My family really enjoyed it. I reduced the amount of sugar to 370g and used chocolate ganache instead of coconut pecan frosting. Because some kids don't like pecan :P
i love this cake and i’ve made it severally, it came out sooooo perfect.thanks Stefanie
Made this cake for a birthday party! Huge success! The proportions of frosting to cake were perfect, just enough so that it wasn’t too sweet or lacking sweetness. One of my favorites! Thank you!
In reply to audiofreun2, it is not actually called German chocolate and certainly not as a marketing strategy to make people think it was German quality. It was originally known as German's chocolate cake, because it was a recipe using German's Chocolate, which was named after Sam German who developed it. Nowadays, it's just known as German Chocolate cake, but that's where it came from. So, not named for a country, but for a person whose last name was German. Great video! Thank you!
thank you. this makes so much more sense now since I am german and I could tell you: we don't usually use coconut in any german cake recipe I know of and Pecans are pretty much unknow aka not/ hardly available in Gemany at all!!!
Choux Cake Studio wow, I didn't know that!! Thanks for the info!!🙂
This woman is so brilliant at baking!
tried this recipe and it came out well, it was soft and delicious...my friend's son liked it very much...good way of presentation and easy to follow

Love the coconut frosting on the cake. And the frosting on the layer also. Havent gotten around to baking just yet but I have my eye on some of the key baking necessities. Just had a store bought one.

You can frost the sides of the cake if you like.
During my hospitalize stay a few week ago, I've tried German Chocolate Cake which recommended by a guy work there. I really love it. Thanks for the video. I will try to make it some day.

Thank you for sharing your recipes. It's always perfect. :-)
Love this recipe. This original version of German Chocolate Cake is the best. No added chocolate - just the right taste of chocolate cake with the decadent coconut/pecan frosting.
Stephanie thanks you very much, i love your channel and recipes, i am mexican and is very good you mention the grams and mililiters, i have made some of your recipes, they are perfect if we get the instructions!! i am your fan
The brand of induction burner I use is Caso.
I did and absolutely delicious.... thanks ....
Usually your oven will say when it is up to temperature. It is a good idea to let the equalize for about 10 minutes longer than that.
Hi Joy i like your all recipe. So good, Thank you so much. I need practic sometime i don't understand everything because i' m learning English know. God bless you
Thank you for the video! Very helpful!
LOVE the accent! Reminds me of my lovely childhood on the shore of a Minnesota lake in the woods. Ja, youbetcha.
Could it have been under baked? Also, make sure that the melted chocolate has cooled to room temperature before adding it to the batter.
Could be a few reasons for this happening. Did you weigh your ingredients as too much or too little of an ingredient can cause problems. Also, this problem can be caused from over mixing the batter or that the oven temperature is too low.
When I do a cake like this I always use sugar water sirup mixed with some Grand Marnier or something similar, and moisten the three-four layers. The result is awesome.
You have very interesting equipment! I wish I could afford half of it. I really enjoyed the video! Thanks.
German Chocolate Cake is sooo yummy! I am obsessed! I am eating some now! lol
This is a nice lady! It is easy to follow her instructions!
Beautiful!!!
yo i truly adore your work do you plan on making any more anytime soon? that would be really dope if you did
definitely will try this cake 😊
Yes, you could use all purpose (plain) flour.
i have seen many video but just i liked your all video its different and better when you teach us thanks god bless you
You are the only Baker I have seen take the time to use Metric Units
+Creative Inspirations That's why I love her + she doesn't use a KA stand mixer.
Love this cake! How can I adjust the batter recipe in order to use 6" pans instead of the 8". Thanks! I love all your videos :)
looks good
Very moist luv it
Going through your videos and will be baking this for our special religious day.
thanks for the recipe
hi, i love your recipies. can i use this type of chocolate cake to make blackforest?
Ah, you haven't tried it. I've made German chocolate cake from scratch (not this recipe but a very similar one) for my brother's birthday, and it was fantastic. My family loves the coconut-pecan frosting. It's a wonderful complement to the moist chocolate flavor of the cake.
Yes, you could do that.
Looks good
A liter is a unit of volume. It's based on the metric system, in which 1 dm^3 (cubic decimeter) equals 1 liter. For example, you can correctly say "1 liter of flour", but that just isn't much used.
And thank you so much for using weight and metric system Stephanie, we really appreciate it =D
This cake is one of my favorites, but i have never uses coffee in the batter. I have baked German Chocolate Cakes on many occasions so I am looking forward to trying it with the coffee.
ml refers to volume and in this case the recipe calls of a volume of 240 ml of pecans.
Just a tip, since she used kosher salt I would add half of what she said in regular salt, otherwise the cake will be too salty.
Thank you....it's just like my mom's recipe! I'm gonna try to recreate it in her honor!
My favorite cake growing up...🍰🍰😃
Joy, can I use all purpose flour, but take out 2 tbs from each cup and add 2 tbs of cornstarch? Joy of Baking
Thank you for your reply
I no this is vary random but I love that pig in the background
This looks so good but just wondered for the frosting, if I don't want to add the nuts, do I just add more coconut to balance out the recipe?
My favorite cake! may I freeze frosting till later?
Great recipe. I'm from Europe, so I appreciate that you are converting cups and ounces to grams and milliliters. However, some of them are incorrect. Pecans, coconut, and all kinds of nuts, cannot be in milliliters! Only liquids :) So in this recipe there should be about 128 g of pecans, and about 140 g of coconut :) Thank you, bye!
TRIMATIS
How many hogsheads is that?
This cake is soft and moist. If your cake was heavy it could have something to do with tripling the recipe.
I really want to add this to my thanksgiving menu but it so time consuming. I'm May try baking it a day or so in advance. I love German chocolate cake!
I always use the Duncan hines German Chocolate cake mix and make the homemade frosting.
Great idea thanks
very kind of you thanks to reply me you are really nice nice person god bless you
very good yummy cake
I love all your recipes!! I would like to know if I can used regular flour? It is hard to find it in my country, thank you very much to teach us this delicious recipes, I'm a big fan of you! Hola from Honduras, Central America
Yes, you could use regular flour.
Stefanie... could you help me by suggesting the best cake I can make for my baby's birthday. I am going to make it by myself and I always follow your recipes as I trust them totally!
Hello instead of cake flour can I use the ordinary flour? Thank you! :)
I have tried a lot of your recipes and they are simply great and I enjoy watching your channel. There is one thing I would like to ask and hope you can help me with this. Why do German chocolate cakes using all purpose flour not call for baking powder. I made one awhile back and it did not call for baking powder, just baking soda. The layers did not rise well and I wanted 3 layers in 9" pans. I don't always have cake flour. I would like to make this cake with all purpose flour and 3, 9' pan. Thanks for your help in advance.
trying Baking soda is normally used in recipes that contain an acidic ingredients. Therefore if your recipes contain things like brown sugar, buttermilk, regular unsweetened cocoa powder, then you need baking soda.
Joy of Baking hmm l'm.

Note to everyone. German Chocolate Cakes are not from Germany. It is an American recipe that uses German Chocolate.
It's name after a Baker's Chocolate brand employee nanmed Samuel German. On the box it's actually called German's Sweet Chocolate and cake recipe is German's Chocolate Cake.
Where could I find an electric stove such as the one in the demonstration? Or what would I need to look for when buying one?
Good. Chef
@AnnaMurasova make a the two cakes from the pans, and empty them on to a cooling rack. Use one of the empty pans for the other batter.
Hi, I would like to turn these into cupcakes and fill and top them with the german choc frosting you teach. Please tell me how many cupcakes you think this will make and how much frostign I will need. Thanks so much :0)
Einfach perfekt
Can I use freshly scraped coconut for the frosting? Please suggest..
She is a oven or cake queen!!!

Pine apple upside down cake
My plan, too!
Looks like a delicious cake, but I don’t think it should be called German chocolate! I would use the recipe, but it’s just not German choc
so yummmmmmmmy
I have to make that
What is your opinion of white sugar vs brown sugar for the coconut icing? I've seen some people use one and some use the other
Can you tell me where did you get that burner or what brand is it?thanks :)
hello dear joy, thank you very much for making us life exquisitely sweet, personally I have made several of your recipes and always come out wonderful and this is why I would like to know: what is cake flour? I made the German cake and the bread did not fit, I guess it was my mistake in choosing the type of flour, could you please tell me how to make it?
Cake flour is a low gluten flour that gives cakes a soft and tender crumb. You can make cake flour. Take 1 cup all purpose flour (130 grams). Remove 2 tablespoons and replace with 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Sift before using.
hello Joy thank you very much dear to answer, it was indeed my mistake I confused the flour, surely now it will be great, another question: your cup is 130g? 2-The coffee mixture should be hot when added to the smoothie or it does not matter? I regret the inconvenience, I appreciate your time ... beautiful day!
I'm really curious to know what the little tune you play at the beginning and at the end of your video is.
