    I have a job like this coming up next week and now I know how not to do it so found it helpful. And yes I will be doing a zs and an IR test. And the copper will come in from the back. And I will also test the RCD as it is a split board.

    Would of preferred the copper pipe to push in by back entry, looks like a council job with the pipe on show

      I agree the shower could have been an inch lower, pipe entering horizontal instead of vertical. Made more work for himself putting an elbow on there.

    • @jokeaaaa
      @jokeaaaa 2 роки тому

      I don't understand why he used an elbow when he could have just push fit the inlet pipe from the back cover

    • @ciprian1000
      @ciprian1000 2 роки тому

      @@jokeaaaa because it’s a push fit . So once fitted u can’t take it out if it comes from the back unless u have rear acces.

    Why did you test it on one pipe? What about homes with 2 pipes (Hot & cold)?

    Hi there .so i have just had an 8.5kw shower installed on a 6mm cable , i have been told the cable needs to be 10mm cable , will this be dangerous

    • @zippymo672
      @zippymo672 2 роки тому +1

      It depends on the installation method.
      If it is clipped direct it will carry up to 47 amps.
      If it is installed inside conduit and embedded in a wall then thw current carrying capacity is reduced to about 32amps.
      Ideally the cable should be 10mm because if later in the future you decide to uograde the shower to a more powerful one, then the 10mm will cover that.

    Am I the only one thinking that this video is a good example of bad practices. Firstly, the rating of the cable. Although the shower capacity was not mentioned, 6mm cable for any electric shower should just be a no no. Secondly, force cooling the pipe weld. I mean this must not be done under any circumstances. Common on, how long does it take to cool naturally? Not sure this video is one to recommend. Quick job, bad practices

    • @d34nr2k8
      @d34nr2k8 4 роки тому

      Shower capacity is mentioned 8.5kw

    • @namski2410
      @namski2410 4 роки тому +1

      @@d34nr2k8 you are correct. What I meant to say was that although the shower capacity was mentioned, 6mm cable should not be used for electric showers. I just think is it bad practice and should not be encouraged. 6mm cable could only support up to 7.5kW rated shower at best - not sure I have seen one of such capacity anyway

    • @IAmThe_RA

      @@namski2410 8.5kW requires around 38A at max. On paper 6mm² cables are rated at 41A but it can handle much higher current like close to 50A.

    The point on these videos shouldnt be look how easy this job is it should be if your gonna mess with 6mm shower cable can you prove that cable is dead before and after refit of shower and i dont mean wave a voltage pen over it, and if the answer no then then you shouldnt be touching the job full stop

    This guy has other great videos. But, I am not so impressed with this video of his, as he didn't mention the cable from the MCB will terminate on the RCD and then to the Electric Shower. The RCD of the RCD will depend on the Shower Rating.

    Why make a bend in the pipe? You could have put the 15mm pipe straight into the back of the shower.

    Ok, I've been watching your videos on installing everything, but there's a saying "Jack of All, Master of None". Kitchen fitter, chippie, plumber and now electrician! There seems to be no end to your talents! For an 8.5KW shower the recommended cable size should be 10mm and be protected by an 40A 30Ma RCBO. I didn't see any local double pole 40A isolation switch, nor any local water shut off valve! It's fine being the jack of all, but messing with electrics can kill! I presume you'll also fit gas appliances.. You're just fantastic and probably cheap too. Building Regs, Part P, City & Guilds, who needs any of that? Just watch UA-cam channels like yours, there's no longer any need for qualified tradesmen anymore. Yours, Paul McGuinness

    The pipes should not be visible...
    You should never heat a copper pipe when you get a push fit so close...
    Sorry to say but this is a big NO.
