i know it seems like such a small thing, but the pop up text is really an amazing addition to these sorts of videos its one of those small details where people might not recognise why theyre being engaged more than usual, but it really helps
I'm piggybacking off the original comment but I agree, I like watching guitar cover videos but the pop up text boxes in this video add that personal touch and it makes me appreciate the cover even more!
There just aren't any catchy "guitar forward" rock songs like this any more. Such a diverse song with soul and heart. You captured it so well, no wonder you are smiling!
Thanks Ethan! There are bands out there but they have small followings and aren't known well. The music industry is a mess right now with all the ultra produced, autotuned crap. This is one of the many reasons I started this channel. To remind people how awesome older music is and how much skill these musicians had.
I never bonded with the narrow EVH Wolfgang necks but watching you play with such effortlessness is making me reconsider purchasing the Wolfgang Special.
IMO the best guitars out there, close 2nds for me are/were Music Man silhouette and my custom shop Keisel. Necks on all are very similar, the EVHs though with only 22 frets..
Yeah that’s an automatic thumbs up from me too! Your playing is incredible. EVH would be very happy at the care and effort you have put into playing his creations.
That tone, man!! Great job replicating it and getting the timing down. There's VH for the radio and VH for guitar players...this is one of the latter. There really is no debate over who the goat is ;-)
The ice cream man stretch lick is the hardest I have ever learned. I think linch did a version of the lick. And so did Dime bag. And the stretch I can manage and the speed I can manage. It's like this song. Getting into and out of the lick cleanly is murder. It took me forever to learn.
Well honestly this about as close to a faithful representation of Sir Edward Van Halen's sound as I have heard!! I am honestly impressed. That little pre solo run at 1:50 was the only tell in the whole song that it wasn't EVH!! 👀💀 Great job man!! Sub EARNED!! ❤
That's bad-ass dude. Love the tone when Eddie would pull back on the volume and have that semi clean/semi dirty feel. Very cool stuff. Not easy to do either. They used to open the show with this one.
Awesome, I like how you gave some info on your recording of your guitar you should go through your setup on day. Also sounded like you re-did the bass too. All I know is you are killing it. It amazing how fast you can knock out a song and they are songs that are difficult to play.
Thanks Perk! I did redo the bass in some parts. The original has some serious timing issues so I re-recorded those parts! I always play the songs with no vocals so I can really hear what I am playing. Just hearing the bass with those timing issues was driving me nuts.
I was listening to this song on my way home from work.. LOL You rocked another... Have you done Round and Round by Rat yet? I also think White Lions Wait has a super cool solo.
I use really thick picks. To me it makes picking fast so much easier. I used to do a LOT of fast picking back in the day and I never changed back to regular picks. I use Dunlop Tortex Jazz 1.14mm. Not sure what gauge of strings. I think it is 9-42.
I'm surprised that it seemed like the two power cords sliding into the open chords during the chorus seemed more difficult than doing the volume swells while releasing the prebends in those chords during the verses seemed more difficult. To me, the volume swell thing seemed way more difficult.
Sliding those chords at that speed with accuracy is something that is not used a lot. His volume swells is something that he does a lot so I was just used to doing it. :-)

That is so cool that you find the info engaging. I know I hate it when videos talk about playing more than playing so I tried this. Thanks!
@@TheRetroGuitaristI also loved the little subtitles and hearing what’s on your mind as you play the different parts of the song

This song is the most underrated of all time that riff is insane !!!!
The magic of EVH will be talked about for centuries...

Thanks a lot Tom! I have been a fan since I was 16. Really inspired me to play the guitar.

Thanks! There is definitely two sides to Ed's playing for sure.
Somebody call the fire department, 'cause this dude is ON FIRE!!! Amazing job on one of my all time favorite VH tunes. 🤘🔥🔥🔥🤘
Wow, thanks!
@@TheRetroGuitaristSomebody get him a doctor !
That was awesome!
Thank you!

What a way to start my Saturday! Killer as always my man!
Glad to hear that! VH is a great way to get the blood flowing. Thanks!
Almost every day starts and ends with VH…that’s no bs.
Wow. You blew me away with this performance! Awesome job you are good!

Thanks Uncle. Yea, that volume knob is under used IMO.
HELL YEAH
👍👍👍
Nailed it! This song is hard af and you made it look easy lol Cheers!
Thanks Clarence! I'm glad I survived it! :-)
You are a King
Amazing master! you rock!

You should have put "Bug Eye Guy" in the video too. We like that dude and his bass playing. Rock on "Bug Eye Guy". You're a real man of genius!
Bass player is on video strike right now. He's holding out for bigger glasses and I can't afford it!
Excellent❤
Thanks 😊
SWEETNESS!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome, thank you!

Nice

Thanks Jeff! I can do Round and Round at some point. I have been thinking about doing some Vito. He is one of the best to ever play the instrument.
this is amazing ur playing just like eddie❤
Thanks!
You smashed that! Terrific job. Great tune.
Thanks Chaos!
great job, great guitar sound, great playing!!!!
Thanks a lot!
Groovy lick for sure man. Enjoyed watching you try and tame it.
Keep slay'n!
Thanks!
Wow! Very nice job Sir!
Thank you kindly!
Great tone and swing!
Thanks Chris!
amazing homie
Thanks so much for your comments!
Ho-ly shit my man, well done! Love the little notes throughout the video too.
Thanks! I try to add those to give a little more insight. Glad you like em!
Have you attempted Fools?? Would love to see that!
Not yet but I will at some point.

I’d love to know: what thickness of pick do you use when playing EVH tunes? What string gauge do you like to use?

Good job of covering RD. It’s a barn burner
Thanks!
