Amanda, thank you for showing how up work this stitch. The texture is wonderful and I look forward to using this stitch. Nice job in demonstrating. You make it look so easy.
This is a beautiful, yet easy stitch and great for making a scarf out of most weights and fibers of yarn. Plus you can veg out in front of the television or yack away with a friend without having to count. Thank you for your great breakdown and demo! *~New Subscriber*
Thank you so much for recommending this stitch! I’m a granny stripe lover and this one might be its competitor 😁 You are so much help! So thankful I’ve found you!!
You're very welcome! It's a fantastic stitch and, not going to lie, a little obsessed! I hope you enjoy it as well. I'm glad I can provide some help and guidance :) Happy crocheting!
Great tutorial, this is one of my favorites too. I've used it for a few sweaters with great results. Just don't try to say "sedge stitch" 10 times fast! 💜🙏🏻💜
Amanda Crochets you're welcome, it's my pleasure to learn from you! You are far from the only one who has trouble saying sedge stitch, every tutorial it's an issue and I don't attempt it anymore cause I just massacre it every time! Have a great day💜🌸😎
Oh i love this stitch thank you for such a clear tutorial!! im new to crocheting and im using this video right now to try and make a cardigan, but im struggling on figuring out how to increase or decrease with this stitch! does anyone have any advice?
You are so welcome! I’ve never increased/decreased with this stitch before, so it’s hard to say, but I would imagine you make 2 sets of stitches in one to increase and crochet two sets of stitches together to decrease.
Great! Typically the chain is the width of your blanket. You will love this stitch! You can check out my blanket I made using this stitch here: www.amandacrochets.com/sedge-stitch-baby-blanket/
I really like this stitch. I am planning to make a throw for an adult Grandson. About how many stitches wide? And how many skeins of a size 4 100 grams yarn will I be needing? Anybody? Can you help??? Thanks Very much appreciated
I really like using this website for making my blankets a certain size: thecrochetcrowd.com/afghan-calculator/. All you need is the yarn you want to use and the crochet hook and follow the instructions for the size you want. I hope that helps you! Good luck 😊🧶
April Bender you will make a chain in a multiple of 3. Once you’re happy with your width you will make one final chain at the end to keep things in balance.
To change colors, don't finish your stitch completely. You will cut your yarn and leave a little bit of a tail to weave in later. Lay the new color over your hook, again leaving a tail, and pull through with the new yarn. Hope that helps!
I really love the Sedge stitch! It’s wonderful for baby blankets, lapghans, throws and even a full size bed cover.
I agree, a very fun stitch!

This stitch is deceiving, it looks hard. But you've explained it so well. I'm going to try it for my next project. Thanks for sharing 👍
You're welcome! It does look hard, but it's quite easy once broken down. I'm working on a blanket using this stitch now. I love it! Good luck!

This is beautiful! I want to make a throw with this stitch, any yarn recommendations?

Amanda Crochets Thank you.
mDiago 6200 you’re welcome!
Can the sedge stitch (red heart yarn) be used for a baby blanket? Thanks Amanda
Yes! I’ve made many blankets using this stitch! One of my favorites 😊
I want to start a blanket! I’m a semi beginner. Is the chain I begin with length or width 😆 I want the blanket to be about 45-50 inches long.
Great! Typically the chain is the width of your blanket. You will love this stitch! You can check out my blanket I made using this stitch here: www.amandacrochets.com/sedge-stitch-baby-blanket/

Can this be made on a circle?
Yes I don’t see why not!
Can you tell me please how to increase with this stitch?
April Bender you will make a chain in a multiple of 3. Once you’re happy with your width you will make one final chain at the end to keep things in balance.
How do you change colors with this stitch?
To change colors, don't finish your stitch completely. You will cut your yarn and leave a little bit of a tail to weave in later. Lay the new color over your hook, again leaving a tail, and pull through with the new yarn. Hope that helps!
