Also to avoid the gap on the edges , dont chain two. Insert your hook directly into the stitch do a single stitch then insert your hook into one of the loops of the single stitch and do another single on top of it. Then you can go to the next stitch as normal so no more turning chains or skipping stitches 🫶🏽 makes super clean edges!
@@DaysOfSodaAndLantana No video from me- but instead of chaining, turn your work and make a single crochet. Then look to the left of the edge of the stitch and make another single crochet. Look up double crochet alternative stitch and I’m sure you’ll find jt
@@DaysOfSodaAndLantana absolutely. I’m sorry I cannot be more “clear” but it’s easy to do and frankly, I prefer it for straight edges! Happy crocheting!
Wow, 224 people didn’t like the video?? It’s a lovely stitch. Well taught. I was looking for a nice pattern for some scarves, this is it. I’ll be parking several for friends.
I am a baby brand new, and I mean brand new crocheter. Your video was so easy to follow! Your voice is so soothing. I am actually doing something other than just a scarf of single crochet! Thank you!
You are right, this is an easy pattern. I am using up all my scrap yarn by making different pattern squares, then I stitch them together into lap quilts and donate them to veteran, nursing homes, or children’s hospitals.
I am taking a break before I scream at this pattern WHO IS THIS WOMAN I want to strangle her. I am completely taught via video. I started with one of Annie's kits. Why are people so protective of their patterns. If I had that I wouldn't have to stop every minute. So far this one is the worst I done. I go a little farther but...
I just taught myself to crochet a couple months ago by watching tutorials and I must say that your tip on pulling up on the double crochet was most helpful. I've crocheted several of these stitches on previous things and could never get my DC post to look right until watching your tutorial. I can't thank you enough 🙏💗 Your video is greatly appreciated!
Claudetta, you are a fantastic teacher. This video is very clear and well done, thank you so much! After watching it many times and doing some samples I wrote up some instructions which I think are what you are doing in the video. In case anyone else wants the instructions to print out and keep with them as a reminder, here is what I think they are: SETUP Slip knot and cast on 2k st + 1 more st Skip 1, SC across into back legs (now 2k sts), CH2 and turn Skip 1, DC across, make sure to do last st (should always have 2k sts), CH1 and turn SC across into both legs as usual, SC into DC hole at end of row, CH2 and turn After edge post, *FPDC behind post, DC into st before next post*, tight DC into last st, CH1 and turn *SC across*, SC into DC hole at end of row, CH2 and turn REPEAT *DC into st before long post, FPDC behind short post*, tight DC into last st, CH1 and turn *SC across*, SC into DC hole at end of row, CH2 and turn *FPDC behind short post, DC into st before long post*, tight DC into last st, CH1 and turn *SC across*, SC into DC hole at end of row, CH2 and turn I did deviate in one place - at the ends of the SC rows, in the last stitch, I had trouble finding and using the second chain to do the last SC. So instead I decided to just SC into the hole under the DC chain itself, and that seems to look okay also, while being easier for me.
THE best alpine stitch tutorial online! My only advice to others is to definitely make sure you use the intermittent single stitch rows as a chance to count the stitches! Thanks for making this video
I must admit you are an excellent teacher I’m 75 and have crocheted all my life just not took an interest in Tunisian crochet until now, but this is gorgeous. Thank you for your ability and sharing it. God bless
I have watched at least 30 videos and you are the best teacher so far. You show the stitches, your directions are clear. This Alpine stitch is lovely and exactly what I was looking for.
Oh my god, I've been trying to do this stitch for ages. Started with a written pattern, wasn't working out. Tried at least three other video tutorials, still wasn't working out. Just could not get the stitches to match up with the videos. Until yours. I don't know what you do differently to everyone else I watched but finally it's working for me! Thank you so much for your video!
I followed another tutorial and I got everything for the first 4 rows but her work was much smaller, and less clear on what to do 5+. I knew I was doing wrong, so I came to your channel. Your pacing is great! Thank you so much!
Brilliant video to follow along. Clear filming so you can see where to put your hook, just the right distance, slow enough to follow, the yarn colour doesn't obscure seeing the stitches and great sound and clear voice. Wonderful tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Great tutorial! I watched it several times before giving it a try. After the first row of front post crocheting, I almost gave up because my stitches were too tight and it was curling. I tore those out and began again, following your directions (which I didn't catch the first time) to make sure all the loops on the double crochet around the front post were even before pulling through and like magic, it took shape. It's actually kind of addictive once I got it. I've been crocheting for many years but just recently decided that I needed to branch out from the basic stitches and this is a big help. Thanks for sharing and I will check out your other tutorials as well!
Oh my goodness! I am only 8 minutes into this video and I can hardly get my work done because I am enjoying your beautiful voice too much. You speak with such a gentle kind voice and I am completely understanding each of your directions. Thank you so much for doing a tutorial on this Alpine Stitch. I've wanted to learn it for a long time but I haven't been able to find a tutor. Your's is perfect. I'm going to be making a throw with this stitch and it will be beautiful. Again, I thank you for making this tutorial!
Your a great teacher. I'm a beginner and learn by watching. I think the only hard part is learning the vocab words.. but you make it sound understandable. Thank you
I just watched another tutorial on this stitch and it was poorly executed. I'm so glad I searched further because I found your tutorial/s ... the best! I watched some of your other tutorials and I'm quite confident that I can expand my knowledge base ... Thank You so much!
I'm making my mother a hand towel with this stitch! I hope to make a bunch of squares and make her a quilt, she had a stroke last April and spends a lot of time sleeping.
Thank you! I used your tutorial and made a bunch of baby/infant hats with matching blanket sets, to give to the Labor & Delivery babies, at 3 hospitals in my area. The nurses & mommy patients love them! So, thank you, again!
I love your video and I love your voice! I'm in the US and my mother's side is from Germany. I love listening to your accent when you do your tutorial. This stitch is just gorgeous as well! I'm doing it using a lace weight yarn made of cotton and bamboo fibers and it is just perfect for a summertime shawl, especially after I block it. Thank you for making such a great video!

This video is wonderful! I’m working on a baby blanket in the alpine stitch using a pattern I found online and I was having some trouble working out the math of it. Came to UA-cam to get some clarity hoping someone had a video using alpine. This helped me so much! Thanks.
I spent years not knowing this trick and just made large granny squares into blanket size. My best friend taught me to do my foundation chain in a hook that was a size up from the one I planned to use for the project. Then at end of chain, change to smaller hook, works for me every time, I think it has to do with the hand tension different people crochet with, some crocheters don’t need this trick. Hope this helps !

Very nice stitch! I was looking for just the right pattern for a new scarf & this really caught my eye. Thank you for using easy to see light colored yarn & for your wonderful tutorial.
I like how your nail color mimics the yarn color- kept me focused- not at all distracting! You're a good teacher- it did take me writing down the instructions, also, to get the hang of what you do at the end of each row- I'm funny that way; I have to write it (anything I'm trying to learn) down to have a solid grasp on the subject! Very easy to keep track of the ins & outs throughout my piece. I'll send you a pic when it's done🕊🌈❣

I’m so glad I found this. I’m wanting to make a baby blanket and wanted something easy, but pretty. This fits the bill so nicely! Can’t wait to buy my yarn and get started!
This is one of the easiest crochet patterns ever. It looks so intricate and delicate, yet I can do it with my eyes closed. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I go through phases of crocheting and I come back to this video and only need a few seconds to remember how exactly to do it! Dankeschön :)
Just beautiful! I can't crochet but I look for nice patterns and send them to my daughter who has taught herself to crochet in recent months due to having knee issues. It stopped her from going crazy 💜
I LOVE this pattern and I have to say you did a very good job of teaching this. I CAN'T follow a written pattern. I have to watch and that's how I learn. I am doing a scarf for my husband but it's colors of dark grey so you can't really see the pattern as much and it's hard for me to crochet but I'm doing it and it looks good. So thank you for doing this.
I love how you explain the pattern. Nice and easy to follow. No distracting music in the background that I appreciate! I will subscribe to follow and see what else you teach! Thanks!
Thank you for demonstrating this and explaining it so beautifully...it is very easy to understand! This crochet stitch makes a really great dishcloth or washcloth using a nice cotton yarn. I've used "I Love this Cotton" and it is wonderful!
Beautiful, I am French and live in France, I'm a "beginner " in crochet but this is so easy to follow, and such a nice stitch ; thank you very much ; sorry for my bad English ! Kind greetings : Marie
This is beautiful. It makes a pretty thick blanket. I think it will look so beautiful draped over a crib or chair in the nursery. I could see using this stitch for a rich textured sweater or cardigan. Thank you!
So easy Stitch, very clear explanation, so beautiful , thanks!!! Una puntada facil de muy sencilla y clara explicacion y ademas muy hermosa, gracias!!!
I have such trouble following tutorials sometimes, especially with edges! I really enjoyed your voice and dedication to detail, it was soothing and I learned it on the first go with a few pauses. Thank you so much, will definitely check out your other stuff!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! 🤗 I'm taking advantage of the current quarantine to make my first ever project, a blanket for my first baby, who's coming in October. I made a swatch of 20 chains and relatively quickly got the hang of it. I'll keep practicing a bit before moving to the big project because the ends of my rows are a bit wonky hehe :)
Thank you for your tutorial. I am imagining this stitch for my upcoming whole black tote bag combined with creme light webbing strap. 😄😄 i think it would turn out sooo pretty. Thanks again ☺
Hi Claudia first time I ever saw your video on the Alpine Stitch, I agree with them you are a fabulous teacher and I love the Alpine Stitch,my grandson's going to be getting married so I know I'll be going to a shower I want to make them this Afghan for their shower gift. Will be looking for more of your videos on crocheting or knitting if you knit.
I HAVE TO DISAGREE ..YOUR NOT A FABULOUS TEACHER !! SOME HAVE PROBLEMS FOLLOWING WHAT YOUR DOING , BECAUSE YOUR YARN IS TOO SMALL , AND DO IS YOUR HOOK !! HELLO !! WHEN YOU MOVE SO FAST ..(PLEASE DON'T SHOW OFF )!! WE'RE TRYING TO LEARN !! USING TINY YARN AND HOOK MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW !! CAN " YOU " UNDERSTAND THAT ?? THE VIDEOS ON HOW TO KNIT ARE DO MUCH BETTER THEN YOU PEOPLE WHO " THINK " THEY ARE TEACHING CROCHETING !! BUT YOUR NOT ..SO MANY GET FED UP AND JUST QUIT !!! SO PLEASE , PLEASE , USE BEGINNER KIND OF TOOLS !! HELLO ! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ?? I WONDER ??PLEASE WE DON'T WANT TO BE IMPRESSED BY YOU !! WE WANT TO LEARN , HOW NICE , YOU DO NICE PRETTY THINGS !! BUT YOU DON'T MAKE IT EASY TO LEARN !!! PLEASE CAN YOU USE "BEGINNING" KIND OF "TEACHING" " TOOLS "!?? PLEASE ???
Thank you for the great video! Instructions were excellent as was visibility. I am presently making dishcloths and potholders as gifts to family members, and think this stitch will make a beautiful potholder. After watching your tutorial, I’ll have no problem making them, and may have to make some for myself, or perhaps a pillow cover. 😊
Update to my previous comment. My baby blanket turned out absolutely beautiful! I used Feels Like Butta yarn because it’s so soft. Looking for a nice border to use because the blanket is rolling up. Be warned: this is a very slow stitch!! It’s basically a single crochet high in each row. Even though it took much longer than anticipated, I’m very happy I made this special baby blanket with this gorgeous stitch!
Thank you 🥹🥹🥹🥹 may the crochet gods bless you 🧶
Do you have a video showing this? I don’t understand.

PLEASE CAN YOU USE "BEGINNING" KIND OF "TEACHING"
" TOOLS "!?? PLEASE ???
Lily Powell very rude post
@@lilypowell1123 Weren't you ever taught, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all??
It is beautiful and the way you explain it is excellent
Stunning. I cannot wait to work this up into a scarf with peach and gray wool. Thank you again for a lovely tutorial.
What a beautiful stitch! Makes me think of a lavender field! Can't wait to try this stitch!
Great video easy to understand. I crocheted along with you love this pattern.
Thank you Claudetta. I think I will actually be able to do this pattern. Just the right speed for me to follow.
Of all the crochet videos I've watched, your video is the easiest tip understand, the simplest tip follow!! Thank you you so much
Thank you for the great video!
Sirin,s Crochet does a blanket like this with a really pretty border.
Love the pattern I do notice mine is curling also. Does this rectify on its own or did the border fix it at the end? Just wondering
Thank you for this easy tutorial, I just finished my very first shawl thanks to you.
