Eberspacher Night Heater My DIY Fix For Non Start-Up

  • Eberspacher night heaters are great when they are working, my D2 12v 2.2kw diesel heater developed a non start-up fault no matter what I did the unit was completely dead.
Then by accident I found a solution, this might be of help to some people but it's only a work around and it will not fix all faults as there are many different ones.
This is ONLY for the D2 and D4 models the older models I believe you need to take to a service agent to have ECU reset after failed start-ups.
Exactly what the fault is I dunno, it could be a duff sensor, or a bug in the ECU and a replacement one of those is £230 which is more than I paid for the whole set-up.
I am not an Eber tech guy so ask me a tech question and you will get a non tech answer :) Good luck

At 3.11 in your video if you pay close attention underneath your right hand the green connection is arcing while you interrupted power might be worth looking at

If it wont fire up,,take the hose off the left side..Lift plastic cover off..You will see a rubber boot ontop with a brown and white wire..Carefully pull the boot back..This is the igniter..Take an air gun and blow that area out really good..And blow the rest of the unit out..Reassemble ,and fire it up..Worked for me

It is a faulty ECU by flicking the power on off your are temporary re-setting it. I working on a bespoke controller to sort these problems and lockouts at a fraction of the price of a new ECU.

I guessed it wouldn't be anything simple :( I've thrown it back in the van for now as I only use it occasionally and bought a new D2 for the bus with the 801 controller, but you should do a vid on your mod as there could be a lot of interest.

@@matthewlamb2660 l gave up when the cheap Chinese heaters became available and never looked back as spares are also cheap. Thanks for asking.

old things like this won't fire up after 3 failed goes . I'm sure I used to pull the fuse to reset

I had an error code which told me to boost voltage. Then I switched out my output from the generator to the 220v one, which would supposedly blow the fuse if too much. But, it resulted in white smoke in the cabin, where it is not supposed to be. After that, I could not get it to turn on with the 8+ volt output from my generator. Do you have any idea as to how I might repair this problem? Thanks for your video. It brings knowledge, which is always inspiring. Cheers

I think the easy answer to all these problems is to first sling ur ebersplasher in the bin and then buy a Chinese heater, I've heard good reports about these and they can be had for a fraction of the price, infact one ebersplasher ECU will buy you 2x Chinese diesel heaters so it's a no brainer.

Has anyone else tried adding diesel fuel additives? I was still getting failed starts after a full service but using a triple dose of “fuel doctor” has worked wonders, often starts immediately now.

I have a Eberspacher, version D2. It doesn't throw heat, I notice it works sometimes. Any suggestions would be gladly helpful.

Alert Gps there is a spark plug inside the heater unit. And you put a filter to head of that spark plug. I suggest you to check that filter. That’s the thing burns diesel and heats air. (i had the same problem and solved like this.)

Hi! Thanks for that! I have an ex police Sprinter 416 diesel riot van fitted with one which worked for a while at first in the summer...I have no idea which model or version it is, and what's wrong, it starts up, ticks for a while, then stops.. no warmth any longer. Anybody have any ideas please? I'm in Cornwall. Cheers.

Well don't build your hopes up too much this fault fix might be unique to my errors it's just something to try if all else fails, probably the best option is to upgrade the switch to an 801 with error code read out but then you could be throwing money away after bad but good luck anyway especially this time of year :)

Ok should of read this first don't do what I did in the vid if it starts up then you should be looking at battery supply voltage, fuel supply, fuel pump etc, etc, I posted a link below to a site that has good info for ebers

Can you PLEASE help me ?Do you know how to unlock a D1LC Compact from
Scania ? I have one that is interlocked because of too many overheats,
error 44. I have a original eberspacher tester that does not read the
faults from D1LC compact Scania, with the original tester I cannot reset
the heater.DId you ever manage to reset and read a D1LC compact from
    Scania ?..

      @VanBooter  8 років тому +1

+thecosmy1 No I can't help I only know some folks have start-up problems with this heater D2 as I did this is just a simple method of suck it and see because it could be a host of other things. I do know some of that model locks itself out after so many fails 5 I think and it's a reset by an eber agent ££s but if it's overheating you need to get that fixed as well

SERVICE YOUR D2, they need reqular services, this "fix" will only cause more damage to your unit in the long run, here is a great video on how to service them : ua-cam.com/video/T-YHv3DTueY/v-deo.html
