My brother I really didn’t think you were gonna come with the real deal but that really was an honest review. The best I ever heard so far… thanks for keeping it real. One love
I always appreciate your input on synthy stuff. This has been my favorite review of the Key 37 so far. Personally, I have some big critiques of the MPC UI, software, or whatever you wanna call it haha. This is mostly in terms of trying to treat it as an all out replacement of a DAW. This is something I went through with the SP404MK2 as well. Growing pains and reality vs. expectation, that whole process. That being said, the Key 37 is the first thing that has appealed to me after trying a Force and MPC One then getting rid of those after they didn't work in the way I wanted them to. Being able to have a synth that has a FAIRLY capable sequencer onboard for sketching song ideas away from the studio with the ability to simply export to an Ableton set is a practical use that I can see working out. The MPC only works for my simpler compositions and basic ideas. When I approach both the MPC and SP as a CLEARLY less capable and powered tool that a DAW it makes it a much more practical situation. The Jura and Model D synths are impressive and very useful, in my opinion. The very best piano and rhodes from InMusic/Akai just don't do it for me, but I don't need those. I might replace my SP404MK2 with one of these because an SP is useless to me without a synth. The Key 37, to me, is almost like a keyboard workstation with a basic sequencer for song starting. Sorry for the comment being so hefty, Tefty. Thanks again for your input!
Thanks for the comment! I always enjoy hearing about setups and the nuances of gear working for people (or not working). I actually have an SP404mk2 that haven't really done much with yet. I have to relearn the interface everytime I pick it up. Then I put it down for a month and repeat the cycle. It's a problem lol
As a MPC Live 2 owner I bought the MPK Mini Plus a month ago and it has more than fulfilled any piano key need I could ever wish for. For me, the Mini Plus with its 37 keys hits the sweet spot between mobility and playability. So I can imagine the MPC Key 37 becoming a very attractive allround solution for people looking for a groovebox who also like to play keys.
That's a great combo! And I'm pretty sure the MPK Mini Plus will run off the battery from the Live 2, as well. So very mobile setup. The MPC Key 37 isn't very backpack friendly, but the LIve 2 and Mini Plus could be fit into a large backpack.
@@Xcopeta Keys on the Key 37 definitely seem better but that comes at a mobility cost of course. But if you're a real serious key player then I can imagine you won't settle for anything less than 49 or 61 keys anyway.
Man, I’m just starting the video but I had to pause to comment on your approach when you say what problem does the 37 solve that’s excellent instead of just doing another product review you approach it from the perspective of what problem does it solve? I love it. This opinion comes from the perspective of someone who owns a key 61., maschine plus, I had a live 2, I currently also own a push three
Great job, as per your specific aim, and in comparing with other MPC's - very helpful & informative. Your background & experience added much (in spite of any miniscule camera focus probs). 😉🤔👌 Thank you.
I am glad you have mentioned this factory sounds stock, I would say this is not fair play from Akai, as the key 37 has only a few instruments out of the box, when the key 61 is fully loaded with it's price. People going for key 37 instead of key 61, don't realize on the end when they will get it and load with paid sounds the price will be similar or even bigger than 61, as you have an voucher for only one plugin with key 37. Also key 61 has space for SSD and 4GB RAM instead of 2GB RAM in key 37. Something definitely to be consider for a new buyers. Thank you for honest review.
you are just repeating things you have read this month lol... Who cares about the colour, the key 61 is better anyway, only 300 more in my country compared to the 37 it is a no brainer
As someone who likes to use keys and pads darn near evenly when producing electronic/hip-hop I love this thing. A big appeal for me is that it can be its own daw if need be, but it is also perfectly compatible with a daw as well. Also, I know it’s not exactly something you can use outside of the house due to the power outlet limitation but the unit itself is still very travel friendly if you’re someone who travels often. Very convenient to bring this and some headphones on the road with you and set it up in a hotel versus bringing your laptop/PC, audio interface, keyboard/midi controllers, synths, etc. The main thing that sparks my curiosity regarding this MPC, as someone that’s always just used ableton on my laptop and an MPK midi pad /keyboard set up, what is the built in DAW like? I would like to see more on what the daw itself, and the song creation process is like on the MPC Key 37. Anyhow, excellent informative video.
Thanks! I'll say on the DAW side of things, the MPC Software is inherently limited in comparison to Ableton. Each track can have a maximum of 4 effects. So that limits things right away. Also reverbs are not the best. For audio tracks, you're limited to 8 total in standalone mode. You can have basically unlimited sample programs though (until your RAM is full). If you like the workflow on the MPC, then standalone mode is incredible! BUT, if you're expecting Ableton Live, you might hate it. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for sharing your thought on this product. The MPC Key 37 seems to fit the need of those who want to take advantage of the MPC platform but prefer to play keys rather than pads. I think it will be a very successful product. The one thing I would have liked to have in it is XLR inputs with phantom power to record vocals or acoustic instruments. I am an increasingly disappointed Maschine user looking with envy at the lively world of MPC and this product may make me jump across…
Interesting point you raise at the end about modular. Now THAT'S a way more exciting use case (especially if Akai were to put a lot more development into their step sequencer). 😎👍
i love my new 37!! the "Browse" button is actually the "Load" button now, top right corner. Took me a minute to find it but I use it a lot and don't love the "sounds" interface.
Enjoyed the video! Got my first MPC (Live2) recently and so far I find the workflow be absolutely maddening! But I'm coming from Elektron world, so... The more I look at the Key 37, the more I think this might've been the better way to go than my Live 2...oh well!
Thank you! Tough call on the Live 2. The Key 37 is missing the extra outputs, ssd drive bay, USB3 speeds, and extra Midi ports. Oh and speakers/battery! I still use my Live 2 all the time to date (but my battery died). And yeah, the workflow can be a bit strange coming from other platforms. My advice is always take it slow and use what makes sense to you. Ignore things that don't mesh initially until you have a comfortable 'home base' for making beats on the MPC. My 2 cents!
In my opinion, if you don't own licenses for the plugins included with the 61 and you want a KB + MPC hub, the 61 makes a much more compelling package. I am interested in seeing what you do with modular gear.
I have the MPC One, Key 61, and 37. I find for me, the workflow is quickest on the 37. Having 61 keys is great, and I have an 88 key controller connected to the One. But, I have found I can make tracks the quickest with the 37. Plus, due to its size, it is very easy to move around from one place to another. The 1 feature I did wish it had like the Key 61 was the ability to add an internal hard drive. The 37 does come with one, but it is too small. It would have been great to be able to add a second one, or maybe the should have added $100 to the price and shipped it with a 1 or 2 TB SSD inside.
yeah, you really wonder why they left that out? They wanted to price the unit at $800...why? I think everyone would still buy it at $899 vs. $799. Because its relatively cheap to add bigger hard drive, its baffling to have such small one.
Great, and very informative review. Just a note, MPC One Plus and MPK Mini Plus combo is actually having smaller footprint (about 20%) than MPC Key 37.
Thank you for your contact. It was very well explained do I believe that there should be a keyboard like this in your studio. Of course I am a music equipment junkie for me. I have the MPC force which I’m trading that in for the MPC 37 keys is worth it. The force is still brand newI don’t never use it so I’m treated it in. Makes sense.
I really think that Akai should consider to provide a space for a rechargeable battery pack in all of their products. Then they can leave it up to us if we buy a battery or not. I love the gear I can power with batteries because it creates so much freedom. I dont understand why most guys want black. It is a very unpractical color for visibility in darker environments.
The MPC Key 37 seems really cool except for one thing -- it's not a Force Key 37. After using a Force, the MPC workflow just doesn't do it for me any more. Akai needs to merge the features of both into one device.
awesome review. i have the key37 since day one and could not get rid of my mpc one fast enough. i also will sell most of my synth stuff and buy the plugins instead. i think its the perfect tool for a lean setup. but i am not at all a beats producer - so the pads were always a compromise for me until now...
Live bass player here, who has to cover a lot of ground sonically so a MOOG is not always enough and I wanted to be able to sample other synths and plugins. I first bought an MPC Live 2 and paired it with a Keystep. Then AKAI released the Key 61 six months later, so I went ahead and bought it, knowing it's way too big for my duties. The Key 37 is the unit I wanted all along. I bit the red apple and bought it as well, knowing I now have to sell one or two of the other ones, losing hard earned money in the process. But the format of 37 keys is PERFECT to me. I was surprised however to find out about the lack of outputs, SSD and battery / speaker. Right now it's not possible to send the drummer a separate clicktrack through the headphones out, which is a shame. (AKAI, if you are reading this, PLEASE make it happen!) Also, I know the color red might not be the first choice for some of the artists I play with. I think it might be a good idea for AKAI to start asking their customers about their wishes beforehand, like Behringer sometimes does. I think the Key 37 would have been much more preferred to the 61. I'm pretty sure there will be a black or even retro colored unit coming withing a year and I'll bite my shine little ass if it happens. But for now I really enjoy the shorter 37-format.
Quick note on the drummer click issue... you can pair up an audio interface to the Key 37 to add an additional 3-4 output. My recommendation is the UAVolt 476 interfaces. Make sure you only use the standard audio interface support and not the 32 channel version. The 32 version tends to introduce clicks and pops into the signals as the track count goes up on the MPC.
Thanks for your response! I am aware of this possibility, but I'd rather have all in one device instead. And since my MPC Live 2 and Key 61 have more outputs, I was disappointed to find out that they cut it out on the Key 37. Still, it's great to finally have the right form factor. Today will be my first live show with it.@@teftymusictech
My main issue with Akai and the MPCs is the RAM. I like the MPC key 37. I'm going to get one. It's perfect for what I've been looking for and then later I will get an MPCX but ram is my issue. Why are they so stingy with the ram? You can never have too much ram look at how much RAM cell phones have. A lot of people have been complaining about this issue so if you talk to them please tell them more. Ram these units should have at least 6 gigs of ram 8 would be even better and more storage. Those are the top two issues for me. 💯🤟🏽
If the OS design is efficient, doesnt necessarily need huge RAM. the Key 37 has same RAM as MPC One+ and Live II. I think people are happy with those unit's performance. Your phone is handling many applications and uses...the AKAI, not so much
I think this is a very smart form factor at a great price. Key 37 compares in interesting ways to products one wouldn't at first expect. For example, it's a good alternative to an Arturia Keystep Pro for a lot of the solutions it presents.
When I can, I shoot to SSD. I have a couple Blackmagic Pocket 4ks that do this and my main overhead camera goes to a Blackmagic recorder that records to an ssd. Everything else is to an SD card.
Yeah I love Sony cams for the autofocus (ironic giving that the autofocus failed this one time on this video). My face cam is an a7s3. I use for broll when needed as well. But yeah, no direct to ssd recording :( I use timecode to sync everthing up for multi cams now. I actually made a video on how I multi cam my projects on my older gaming channel here: ua-cam.com/video/2bgaGpJqVcY/v-deo.html
Great review. Wish they had put in the features you mentioned: preamps (particularly since the support for external audio interfaces is kind of shaky, and the point of the MPC One is kind of to lug around less stuff), room for SSD (I dislike waiting for all this stuff to load). I didn't notice if you also pointed out that the headphone jack is in the middle in the back which is pretty inconvenient. I really like my MPC One, and do use a keyboard more than the pads, so would upgrade to the key37 if this had those features and (perhaps) a little more headroom (Memory). I also really, really wish it could stream audio to disk rather than treat everything as a sample. It just seems this should sit between the one and the Key 61, and it doesn't, which makes me suspect a more full-featured model will be coming.
Thanks for this video. Wish I had known AKAI was bringing this out *before* I bought my MPC ONE PLUS with no keyboard. Wonder if they'll have a buy back plan?
MPC is a great place to start 👍 Make sure you have a return policy so you can try it out for a week and see if the workflow clicks for you. That's the biggest hurdle for most people.
I would definitely have spent a few hundred more if this had SSD and 4GB of ram. I feel it's a missed opportunity to not have included the same RAM content as the Key 61.
I'm looking for a beginner synth to play with right now. I already have a nice piano. I think if you have no other synth gear this could be perfect. Kind of an all-in-one. Seems like they just took everything they have in separate units and made one unit. I like the idea. Thanks for the reviw.
This is so close.. really want a solidly built (e.g. metal over plastic) heavy (but not too heavy) 49 key controller that has the aftertouch, a great keybed that can withstand some pounding, I much prefer the pitch bend joystick, a screen/browser to show all my DAW VSTs/knobs/etc, but with faders and knobs and 16 drum pads, and the touch strip as well, all with rgb per key/button. It's like my dream board is about 3 or 4 of these diff boards all in one. The touch/DAW VST screen of the new Komplete keyboard, with the pads on this thing, and the touch strip of the 61 key.. and the faders/knobs of the ARturia or Novation. But man.. this is pretty nice. It looks to cover most things pretty nicely. I have the Novation Launchkey 37 and its pretty decent for the price.
Great video, thank you! What would interest me is that you don't see anyone using a master keyboard on the MPC, although that should work. Is it possible to connect an 88-keyboard and assign a different sound (or several sounds) to the MPC keyboard? If so, the 37 version would be a smart addition to a good master keyboard!
Probably would have got this if it was available at the time I bought my MPC One. As it stands I just pair the One with a Keystep 37 and call it a night
I just bought a Live ll 2 weeks before this came out. I’m now debating whether to exchange it for this. I like the SSD and portability of the Live ll but I like having the keys in one unit. Decisions, decisions 🤔
Great review! Do you happen to know how long of a sequence you can actually record on the on the key 37? I know it has two gigs of ram. Just curious if you know what the limitations are.
I´m using a Clavia Nord Grand Stagepiano and I really want to get into Livelooping. The things im missing are a Loopstation (thinking about the Boss RC 505 MKii) and a Synthesizer Workstation. Is the Akai MPC Key 37 something you would recommend in my case?
Really need to know, I got the Juno DS and wanted to buy this one. Can I create my own sounds like a workstation? Can I split the keyboard in various ways and sounds? Is it similar and good for life performances? Thanks
I love all your videos--even the ones that don't really apply to me. I'm curious how much of the MPC workflow is implemented in the iOS app. Like if you had the app, what couldn't you do that you can do on an MPC One.
If possible, can you talk about live performance with the MPC 37 and not as a DJ but in a band setting? I’ve been looking for videos to see if this is a product that would work in that type of environment, but I’ve not seen anything. Otherwise, great job on the presentation.
Thanks! In a nutshell, the MPC platform has one major drawback for live performance in a keys setting. All the sounds that are sample based (like most of the instruments in the paid MPC Instrument Collection) will need a few seconds to load. You can only have 8 plugins total as well. Synth instruments like the Mini D and Jura load different presets super fast because they're not sample based. If you're okay with the load times, then it's a great platform for a keyboardist in a band.
I wish that people with more of an ear with Akai would blast them for the MIDI note off bug. It makes it so you can't externally sequence the MPC platform, which is absolutely ridiculous to have as a bug for years and years.
Hello, Can you tell me if the mpc keys is more efficient than the live 2? More powerful? If I use a keyboard master with the MPC Live 2, will it be the same thing? Which one you would choose? Thanks by advance.
Same internal chip on both of them. You can use a keyboard with the Live 2 and get the same results for the most part. I've used the Live 2 with an external keyboard for years at this point.
If you're facing the decision between the Mpc one+ and the Mpc key 37, I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on which one would be the best choice for a newcomer in the Mpc ecosystem. Personally, I'm transitioning from the MK3 and although I'm not much of a keyboard player, I'm enthusiastic about learning and I thoroughly enjoy sampling. If money isn't a concern, which option would you lean towards if you were in my shoes?
I just saw this video. Good review . I have the keys 61 and also the typhon, I was wondering if you knew a way to control the typhoon using the key 61 or 37 as a midi controller with out sending the midi notes.. I want to be able to create multiple tracks using the typhoon without it sequencing every track on the MPC but I can’t seem to figure it out. My current workflow is changing the midi ports for each new track on the MPC and Typhon but it kind of makes me loose inspiration in the moment.
Thanks! Not sure if I understand correctly. Are you trying to get multiple sounds out of the Typhon at the same time? If so, not possible. It's a single timbre box. Meaning once you've written a part for it you either need to record that part into an audio track to save it or grab another synth altogether to play with it. But maybe I'm not understanding correctly?
Question: when considering either the Keys 37 or 61, I like the form factor of the 37, however I like the additional features on the 61, including the software library. Do you know how cost would compare for the (a) 61 vs (b) the 37 plus the added software that comes with the 61?
Not sure exactly but if you plan on buying the MPC Instrument Collection, try to wait for it to go on sale. It's 500 bucks normally, which puts the MPC Key 37, plus that package, a lot closer in price. BUT! If it's on sale, then it widens the gap. Another thing to note, if you buy the Key 61 you don't get licenses for those instruments. They're tied to the Key 61. Great so you don't have to worry about license management, but removes the possibility to load them on other MPCs or the VST versions. Something to note!
Hmmm off the top of my head I'd go for a Novation Summit. Hydrasynth Deluxe would be another option but I really didn't like the full size keys (I like the Explorer keys in contrast).
@@teftymusictech thanks for the reply! I’m pretty new to synths but I was able to get a prophet rev 2 sent to me because of my channel. I have no idea how to make sounds from scratch but I love the presets lol. I’ll look into the novation, and see if I can get it on loan.
Good for Akai, too bad I’m a NI Maschine user… I wish NI would release something similar, eventually with 49 keys and with some faders/touch strips (at least 2)
Hello Mr, in some another videos I have seen, that the Key 37 can only load 8 plug-ins simultaneously in 8 tracks in sequencer mode. Thats not enough. Is it possible to load let's say 5 different plug-ins and use them in 20 tracks in sequencer? Thank you
So to clarify, tracks are different from plugins. Yes, you can only have 8 plugins loaded total, but you can have waaaayyyy more tracks. The tracks will have targets, like plugins, or sample groups, keygroups, or pure midi that gets sent to external gear. Hope that makes sense!
I've just got this yesterday, now I'm trying to decide between Jura and Mini D, both sound great (it seems akai is having issues with the redeem vouchers)
Can you, or have you tested the usb syncing with Ableton Live? I’m curious to know if there’s anything about it that’s more fluid than using a midi interface with the Live 2. Outside of the convenience of just using one USB cable, Does it perform better in any way?
Don’t need a browse shortcut it’s there already lol. Load in the top right corner. A few people said the same thing but they just renamed a few buttons. Some said in another video these no program edit…I’m screaming at the screen like it’s in the middle under the screen it’s called edit now.
Is it a stand alone keyboard or does it only work with software? I'm a guitar player, but not a complete stranger to synths. I want to get a synth to use in recordings, but I'm still researching.
James it is a standalone keyboard that also is a DAW.. I am also a guitar player but also play keys and have many synths that o connect and record to it. After the initial learning curve it really is a studio in a box that allows you to creat full length songs with out ever launching a computer.. it really depends on how deep with your recordings you are trying to achieve..
Yup, it has synth engines and additional PAID synth plugins that can be used in standalone mode and as VSTs in your DAW for later use. Works great as standalone but can also be used to control DAW and hybrid setups.
Interesting product but I'm not the target demographic. I prefer to not have to lean over a keyboard to do stuff like finger drum or menu dive - I prefer to have the MPC One off to the left. Also I rarely use the synth-type plugins or record MIDI into my MPC from a keyboard.
You a lefty? Shift button seems pretty bad to the right of the screen for those of us touch screening with the right hand. I guess I will find out when my Key 37 arrives!
@@teftymusictech I perceived it as a mention about having the shift to the right beinig conveniient for ticking buttons on the touch screen, maybe I was misunderstanding.
Hmmm if this is the ONLY production gear you have, I'd get a Mac Mini and a Key 37. You'd still need a preamp though to record vocals and guitars. A lot of options though.
I HATE these red color ways. No. Seriously. I hate it 😂😂 dude. Black. White. Retro. Hell even that gaudy gold looks better. It’s a good look if you have no keys. Great video per usual.
I would pay $1000 if they can change the converters AD/DA and if they can put in Phono Preamp, they need fix this because doing any sampling and playback of critical instruments it just does not cut it.

My space constraints forced me to buy the One Plus but I don't regret it at all. I love this thing. The One Plus goes well with the Focusrite 2i2
I like the voice, I like the honesty, I like your vibe. 100% quality
Thank you!
Yeah that's the main thing that's missing right now. That step sequencer is just not fun to use IMO.
i love my new 37!! the "Browse" button is actually the "Load" button now, top right corner.
I paid like 95 bucks for jura and it’s amazing with the keyboard …man that key37 is many synthesizers in one machine and much more
This was the best review yet thanks
Completely agree!!
awesome review. i have the key37 since day one and could not get rid of my mpc one fast enough. i also will sell most of my synth stuff and buy the plugins instead. i think its the perfect tool for a lean setup. but i am not at all a beats producer - so the pads were always a compromise for me until now...
Can’t wait to order me one next week thank god for tax season 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 definitely add this in my studio
Your channel is underrated
Your phone is handling many applications and uses...the AKAI, not so much
BTW, The browse button which is the load button on the key 37
I think this is a very smart form factor at a great price. Key 37 compares in interesting ways to products one wouldn't at first expect. For example, it's a good alternative to an Arturia Keystep Pro for a lot of the solutions it presents.
Great point! Directly competes with a Keystep Pro and performs way outside of it's league at the same time.
Finally a readable screen:-)
Definitely buying the Keys 37 on Black Friday.
Maybe they will make a 4gig version by then , I wish I could run abelton ,session: arrangement view
@@MediaMusik777 2 gbs isn’t a big deal. I’m still rocking the MPC One. Also, I’ve never used Ableton.
Great review of this product...💯👍
Love your take on this!! Dope video!!
Thank you Yaahn!
@@teftymusictech No problem! Question for you: Are you shooting to an SD Card for each camera?
When I can, I shoot to SSD. I have a couple Blackmagic Pocket 4ks that do this and my main overhead camera goes to a Blackmagic recorder that records to an ssd. Everything else is to an SD card.
@@teftymusictech Gotcha and that makes sense! I'm team Sony but not being able to shoot multicams to one drive is killing me lol
Yeah I love Sony cams for the autofocus (ironic giving that the autofocus failed this one time on this video). My face cam is an a7s3. I use for broll when needed as well. But yeah, no direct to ssd recording :(
I use timecode to sync everthing up for multi cams now.
Fantastic review ❤
Your studio is gangsta my dude !!
Thanks for the info. I'm new to MPC's and am a keyboardist wanting to get more into home studio recording without a DAW
MPC is a great place to start 👍
Make sure you have a return policy so you can try it out for a week and see if the workflow clicks for you. That's the biggest hurdle for most people.
I would definitely have spent a few hundred more if this had SSD and 4GB of ram. I feel it's a missed opportunity to not have included the same RAM content as the Key 61.
Great video! When hooking up an external synth to it's line in, are you then able to use the internal software fx on the MPC in realtime?
I'm looking for a beginner synth to play with right now. I already have a nice piano. I think if you have no other synth gear this could be perfect. Kind of an all-in-one.
Seems like they just took everything they have in separate units and made one unit. I like the idea. Thanks for the reviw.
What a battle station!
I want this in the retro color scheme
Looking to get into this. Should i choose mpc live 2, mpc one, or the key 37?
Another great review. I like the look of it, though I wish there was Ableton Live integration.
I was under the impression it is compatible with ableton?
Best balance video!!!
Great video. Seriously thinking about picking one up or at least an MPC for a brain 🧠
great video i have an mpc x and i am torn between just attaching a small keyboard to it or purchasing the mpc 37..
MPC X is definitely going to be more versatile in the studio with all those outputs and q-links. But yeah, I'd still have to hook a keyboard up to it.
Tough call! Live 2 is more portable and has more outputs if that matters to you.
I have the MPC live 2 and an MPK miniplus. Is it worth the upgrade?
I would go for it if it is spec to spec equal to MPC Key 61, will be nice addition keyboard to my current setup. Might need to wait for mk2 then.
Great review! Do you happen to know how long of a sequence you can actually record on the on the key 37? I know it has two gigs of ram. Just curious if you know what the limitations are.
Just tested this recently. Max is 999 bars.
Good video but one question: what is the quality of the keyboard? Soft keys? Deep or not?
Just came across this as a possible live instrument for me. Cab we load VST's (Pianoteq/Hammond B3x) into it too, and layer multiple instruments?
Thanks! I can't comment on the iOS app as I have no experience with it. But I'll put it on the list of things to check out.
The load button in the top right corner works as a shortcut for browsing.
Yeeep I completely missed the re-labeling on that.
My KORG padkontrol does beat repeat per pad , I’m still waiting for mpc to catch up , also why not make the os open source so we can run abelton
why not use open source...well usually the answer is to make money 😅
Hi! I have Akai force, do you suggest to integrate my setup with this?(maybe for live ?)
I prefer the One. Having just pads helps me create progressions I normally wouldn’t. But unless you agree with me 100%, this is a homerun.
Dig the Red... controls really show up. But a grey would be nice.
Hello,
Can you tell me if the mpc keys is more efficient than the live 2?
👍 ( will there be a dishonest thoughts follow-up? )
So you’re up to how many MPCs now? Nice review. 👍
Yeah they're multiplying like cats! lol
@@teftymusictech Thanks, no you got it! I think I figured out a work around by changing the midi ports on each device for each midi track..👍
Thanks so much!
The touch strip is now located in the software only on this unit.
Non related question. What is the best hardware synth for around 2k?
Jura
Hmmm I use both. Jura might be a bit more versatile. Mini D is my goto for bass though. Tough call!
@@teftymusictech I went with Jura at the end, it was more expensive than Mini D, and it seems Mini is on sale or something now
Can you, or have you tested the usb syncing with Ableton Live? I’m curious to know if there’s anything about it that’s more fluid than using a midi interface with the Live 2. Outside of the convenience of just using one USB cable, Does it perform better in any way?
Just did a video using the MPC Key 37 in standalone mode and sending USB midi data to Ableton. No complaints so far. I need to do more testing though.
@@teftymusictechThanks! I just watched it. It’s well done, and very informative.
I appreciate the heads up.
Could those foot switch pedal I/o be used as a trigger to start recording? Thinking playing acoustic guitar etc and using akai as a looper type thing
Yes! Although I haven't personally tried it yet. But yeah, they can actually be set to control a whole variety of things.
Is this the same as the MPC Live 2 but with a keyboard?
Thanks for your great video :-) I just got one, wow, it's a fantastic unit for that price range. But can anyone tell me, why is there no vocoder??
Hmmm I wonder if Akai will do a dedicated vocoder plugin at some point 🤔 It'd honestly make sense.
Can you assign chord triggers to one octave and notes to the rest of the keys?
Can you use notes mode with the keys? or only it works with the pads
Don’t need a browse shortcut it’s there already lol. Load in the top right corner. A few people said the same thing but they just renamed a few buttons. Some said in another video these no program edit…I’m screaming at the screen like it’s in the middle under the screen it’s called edit now.
When will we get a 37 or 49 key keyboard with piano style keys similar to an 88 keyboard
Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. So it does have it's own internal synth sounds?@@Kevinjames0976
Yup, it has synth engines and additional PAID synth plugins that can be used in standalone mode and as VSTs in your DAW for later use. Works great as standalone but can also be used to control DAW and hybrid setups.
Thanks a lot. This really helps.@@teftymusictech
I am! But I use both hands for the screen. I was thinking more of the transport controls being right next to the shift button being convenient.
@@teftymusictech I perceived it as a mention about having the shift to the right beinig conveniient for ticking buttons on the touch screen, maybe I was misunderstanding.
Can u hook up a keyboard to the mpc one and play the sounds from the keyboard into the mpc?
Yes just connect a midi keyboard through the usb port and it’ll work automatically
and how to load my wav file into mapping with keypad on akai mpc keys 37? while on akai mpc key 37 can only map on pad
You have $2000 for a small studio production center:
Laptop with a Daw / midi keyboard, key 37 (expanded library), or key 61?
Hmmm if this is the ONLY production gear you have, I'd get a Mac Mini and a Key 37. You'd still need a preamp though to record vocals and guitars. A lot of options though.
I HATE these red color ways. No. Seriously. I hate it 😂😂 dude. Black. White. Retro. Hell even that gaudy gold looks better. It’s a good look if you have no keys. Great video per usual.
Hallo, can the Mpc Key 37 read files of Mpc2500
I would pay $1000 if they can change the converters AD/DA and if they can put in Phono Preamp, they need fix this because doing any sampling and playback of critical instruments it just does not cut it.
