“There’s a time to quantize and there’s a time to use your natural feel!!” One of the best points ever! The balance between my internal feel groove clock and that classic MPC swing! Great video! Thanks for the inspiration!!
I’ll be 55 years old in a couple of weeks, I been through the rack akai samplers from back in the day. This would be a nice birthday present 🎁 for myself. I’m considering getting this soon. Great video ❤ keep up the good work my brother and God bless you abundantly.
Hey dude, I know you’re creative and thinking 2GB of RAM in 2024 seems low, but here’s the thing-you might not fully understand the technical side. The MPC runs on a Linux-based OS that’s optimized for audio production, meaning it doesn’t need huge RAM. With a quad-core ARM processor and fast cache memory, it handles tasks in real-time without lag. The system prioritizes efficiency over raw specs, and more RAM just isn’t necessary for its design.
@@Eric_In_SF thank you for explaining that. I kept seeing people hate on it but never understood how the system actually uses ram compared to a normal PC
@@kippreggelogan9570 dude you actually have brain damage. Im agreeing with the original comment…. How did you even figure out how to use the internet when you have that low of an iq? Jesus man
Still 2 g is low, and ram has gotten pretty cheap. I also have the head rush, pedal board and the head rush MX five. The paddle board has the same 7 inch screen as this and MX five has a 4 inch screen. Full touchscreen. They use the same quad core in those guitar affects modelers that they do in the MPC‘s. They’re the same company it only uses two gigs of RAM. And I as a guitar player playing with high-end amplifiers. I can hear the lag. Although that is more intensive than MPC. They can easily put a slot where you can expand memory yourself if they want to keep things on the cheaper side.
to see an arrangement mode in the mpc nowadays is so funny to me. I used to make music on a Roland MV8800. They had this feature already almost 20 years ago! I wished Roland woul've kept making newer versions of the mv8800. But I gotta say the MPC key37 looks really appealing to me
Great video, Yes, a video clip on Grooves and Quantize would be brilliant. Its a component that makes people want to dance and it makes great records. Thank you for this video.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great Video Yaahn. I don’t usually comment but you are fast becoming my must see teacher. I’m looking forward to even more of your videos. You have a great teaching style. It’s relaxed and easy to follow. I got a MPC Key 37 earlier this year and I’m really hungry to learn and get the best out of it. I love the funky grooves you are laying down in your tutorials. It makes the videos are even better. This unit and the MPC is all about the groove for me. I would love to see a video on Grooves and Quantising as there is a lot to take in, with the use of samples and sampling, getting it all to sync with your chosen tempo, but still staying natural and loose. It would also be nice to see you put together a full song including vocals, to show how it can all come together. I would like to see how you leave space for a vocalist in the verses, changing up the drums to announce the Pre-Chorus into the Chorus etc. Anyhow you are definitely one to watch going forward. I look forward to more great videos from you. Thanks, from a UK Bro.
Much RESPECT DUE to Yaahn Hunter, Jr. - you're definitely one of the most practical and unselfish producers out there !!! It's always an education with you !!! PEACE & Blessings !!!
Another educational groove blessing the ears royally. Thank you for everything that you do especially taking the time to drop every piece of jewelry, King Yaahn! Also, I can't get enough of the vocal chops 🎶🎵✊🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿✊🏿👑👑👑
Great vid! The Keys 37 is my first MPC and I absolutely love it. Best bit of gear I've ever bought! I am a bit anxious about the update, but hopefully I'll get used to it as I use Ableton a lot and it looks similar. Thanks for the vid :)
Been doing production professionally since the 90’s. Compared to back then, the Mpc 37 definitely good enough for all users depending on your process. Personally I love it but yes definitely needs more ram. Reminds of working on the asr-10
👍 $751 shipped to USA from thomann! That's $150 cheaper than Sweetwater! Getting mine next week AFA the 2 gigs of ram...I agree that More would be great. But if it keeps the $ low.. then. :). Damn that pack sounds good
My son is 12 years old and loves music and music production. Am I right in thinking that this unit works as a stand-alone unit and all he would need is speakers? Great Video
I went with the key 61 just because it had a slightly heavier instrument library and additional ram. But I agree the 37 is the best bang for your buck all in one sequencer/workstation.
Thanks for your instructive video. On my mpc one with the upgrade to mpc 3, the possibility of using asymetrical time signatures seems to have disappeared. Is this the case on your key 37?
Yeah I get what you mean in your wish-list. That's why I choose an SP-404 mkII instead; battery operation, mic/instrument *and* line inputs (not XLR for the mic, but I keep a short XLR->TRS adaptor cable in the case). Obviously it's conceptually somewhat different and a radically different workflow, but yet it still allows independent solo recording whilst playing back existing material for monitoring, and I find the "rough and ready" approach more enjoyable and less intimidating than a timeline-based workflow.
Thank you for this! I've got an MPC Live that I use with a Novation Launchkey 37 currently but I thought about going to the Key 37 so everything is all in one. Question. Do you sell the bass sounds by themselves by chance? I really want to get that bass but don't really need more drums at the moment. Just thought I'd check. Thanks again!
For some reason, I can't adjust the loop bracket smaller than a whole measure, like to a single beat. In the release video from Akai he creates a 1 bar drop by isolating the fourth beat on a single measure and deleting the drums. I don't know if that's a change since the original beta or if that is a toggle "snap" selection. I have checked somewhere that limits the loop range to whole measures only.
I'm such a beginner that I'm still looking up what words mean. I don't know what I want, and this looks like it does a little bit of everything. I also play a few other instruments, could I add samples with a line-in or would that have to be done with dedicated software? Can I hook this up to a computer and use it with other production software? God, I'm dumb.
You probably know by now but just in case anyone needs this info, be sure to delete unused samples off your RAM!! You may only use a couple sounds or notes from a kit, but the entire kit is still loaded on the RAM…. Also when you load a kit then change your mind and load another one the sounds of the first kit are still on the RAM. Be sure to clear them out. This will help a ton with the limited RAM, because as you stated 8 gigs of RAM should be standard imo. I know some people may know, but there maybe someone who could use the tip. (This is also true for all samplers too btw)
I think 2 is enough… I’ve not run into much issues where I run out…. If I do I sample to drum/keygroup programs… 3.0 disk streaming is a game changer… it’s not like an mpc has the OS overhead that a pc/Mac has… windows uses at least 2gb of ram at idle…. Mpc doesn’t need any desktop environment which is a primary resource hog on pc’s…
8gb of ram would be insanely amazing but I do fill like since they run it on Linux software we will probably never see an upgrade option. I wish they made it with standard ram so we could upgrade ourselves

Agreed, 8 gigs!!
I'm buying this one when it's either white, grey or cream with a better RAM. And a built-in battery !
8 gigs of Ram would be good, but they would have to increase the plug-in track limits, and audio track limit in standalone to take advantage of it.
Wanted it and than bought my key 61 for $790 off of eBay. I would’ve missed out on so much! Still a cool product tho.
Actually, if you read up on it, a lot of people actually prefer the newer 37 since it’s kind of addresses all the flaws of the 61
