godzilla is like a balance restorer for the monsters. he doesn’t necessarily fight FOR the humans but he keeps the monsters in check so yeah. if a monster is out of place godzilla will definitely be there to put it in its place

I honestly love the thought that has gone into the physiological and biological concepts of how these monsters exist. Basically it suggests that they eat not just radiation but radioactive oxygen and in Godzilla’s case, radioactive hydrogen and oxygen, and using the same nuclear fission reactions that occurs on the sun’s surface to give our world light. From the context clues that I have gathered, their cellular respiration uses nuclear fission on a cellular level upon skin contact with radioactive air or water (or both, depending on species) to create energy (human equivalent of it would be ATP) which is then possibly used for transport through a concentration gradient of some sort probably to their tissues for their cellular metabolism. Essentially, they never need to “eat” because they eat and breath through the same processes. Godzilla evolved his gills I think when radioactive Oxygen levels dropped on the surface, and he needed to move deeper to the bottom of the earth. They can exist virtually anywhere there is hydrogen or oxygen, like moss living on mist. They only need excess radiation for processes for evolving, preparing for a battle, and adaptation purposes (you’ll see that in GxK) or for breeding. What makes this Godzilla so special and what I think everyone gets wrong about the monster verse’s adaptation of Godzilla is he has naturally evolved a process which uses the power of the atom just as we did, as a weapon. Godzilla uses the most powerful self-defense process in nature as a weapon FOR nature. If you think about it, Godzilla is literally the only hands in which a nuclear power can lie in, and be considered in “good hands.” He has utilized the very nuclear power that gives life the energy it has used since the beginning and he has turned it into a laser to cut down the things that should not be here.

The hole in the side of the mountain, where it dug out of that base, wasnt the 1st Muto, it was a 2nd Muto egg that they had found back in the day. The Muto egg gives off radiation so thats why he said "where you send all your nuclear waste."
The MUTOs are hands-down one of my all-time favorite villains. I loved their design, their physiology, and how they were very worthy foes to Godzilla. The guy who directed this has been attached to do another Jurassic Park film, too.

To answer ur question, the water around the bridge in sf isnt too deep, but they also way oversized godzilla for that scene. In this movie he is around 330 feey tall, but for that bridge scene they scaled him up to over 400 feet so he could stand next to the bridge
So easy answer is he can't stand that high in the water

Godzilla being a "bad/good guy" depends on his incarnations over the decades. In some films (like the original from 1954 and "Shin Godzilla" from 2016) he's a mindless force of destruction that has to be put down for the sake of humanity. Other times, he's an anti-hero who shows up because another monster is going haywire and has to be put in its place (like with this one) but he doesn't really care about the humans unless they get in his way. The only time I know of where he was a legitimate protector of humanity is in the latter parts of the Showa era.
What you didn't realize is in the beginning those are pictures from 1950 and others were they tried to kill Godzilla then so Godzilla is not young this is something completely different keep your eyes out it'll be fantastic

I'm so glad y'all checked out this movie. I agree that the movie spreads itself out too much, trying to include a compelling human storyline and doesn't spend enough time either developing Joe's storyline or developing Godzilla. Honestly, all the Godzilla movies produced by Legendary have that problem, but I still enjoy the films and would love to see y'all react to the others. They're a ton of fun.

It's funny, a lot of people at the time of the movie's release criticized it for having too much human-centric plot (ex: "Why did the movie spend so much time on Ford?? We don't care about him!")
After revisiting this movie a few times throughout the years, I think the complaints about the plot are because Bryan Cranston brought SO much heart and emotion (and goosebumps!!) at the beginning, so that once his character died there was suddenly a HUGE hole in the movie. Aaron Taylor Johnson (Ford) is a fantastic actor, but there wasn't much for him to do emotionally. He plays a soldier who is chasing around monsters; there was no grieving scene / time TO grieve which could have brought more emotional impact.
Ford was shell shocked and such people do not grieve as others do. Taylor Johnson was given plenty to do and the character did as his father did. Both did "whatever it takes" to do the job they had to do. Cranston fans were wrongly focusing on the actor they wanted to see, not the character he played. An actor/actress wants fans to focus on the character they are playing. If his fans had done that they would have been angry and this fictional organization/military in the movie and not at the writers of the film.

nobody expected godzilla to be that big. so his reveal gives me goosebumps.
But Ford did do things. His father said for him to do "whatever it takes" to get back to his family. But Ford also did what his father did. He did as his father did in finding out about Godzilla and the Mutos. Joe Brody's death was necessary for the audience to be saddened and angered that Joe would never get to see all the results of his research or to meet Godzilla.
I think a lot of people miss that they mention that the male muto JUST matured. Like he just became of age and new what he was after. I think the female is simply older and has been alive longer when they finally meet each other.
If you don't really know much about Godzilla it's hard to understand the new one if you go back and look at the original ones from like the 60s and the 70s that were made in Japan they're incredible. They're finally allowed to use the real likeness of Godzilla some of the newer movies just sucked in the past. Now if you go watch the next one you'll understand who is and what his purpose is here he is to return nature's order back to the original way. And then if you also noticed he did not go against the people when he looked me in the eye he was thinking him for taking care of the eggs.
The whole thing is about returning nature's order in Godzilla is the power of God and nature.

De check out the other movies in this series. Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs Kong. They're a lot more Monsters and character focused, too. They get crazier with each film and go full Avengers by Godzilla X Kong. But they're worth it.

If you didn't notice what you two really did and is that the sun was a major role because he kept telling his son through the years about what happened and he had all that information that's why they went back to get those discs is because he had the information and he was proving it to his son his son knew about it after he had passed a lot of the information that they received on the disk.

I understand how you feel about the human characters in the movie but you got to remember they were there simply four of point of view.
The whole point is what they did and what happened did not matter.

Someone already said it but godzilla being good or bad depends on the era…Godzilla started of in the 1950’s as a destructive force of nature just destroying japan and cities for no reason then the fallowing sequels they pitted him against other monsters to where he started becoming a hero so they started making movies in the 60’s and 70’s where Godzilla was a hero kinda just fighting monsters who were attacking cities….then once u get to the 80’s it went back to destroying and the continuation of these films never really connect only certain ones are actually sequels to another, the monster-verse yall are currently watching are among the ones that are actually sequels to one another of Godzilla being a protector of nature
Everybody is sh*ting over Ford (his character is pointless... he doesn't do anything), but think about it: Ford destroyed the Muto's eggs, and with that action alone, he probably saved Godzilla, cause that distracted the female Muto when Godzilla was about to lose the battle.

But its not about Godzilla working with the humans, it would be like us asking ants to help you in a fist fight. To Godzilla, we're NOTHING, insignificant, just happen to be around while hes fighting the MUTO. I doubt he ever noticed, nor cared, about the militaries plans to retrieve the nuke, or Ford and the other soldiers. Sarwazowia, i know i BUTCHERED that name, lol, has the right of it, Godzilla isnt there to help or protect humanity directly, his job it to maintain a balance, and the Muto's for some reason threaten that balance. It dosent make a lot of sense, especially with later "developments" but hes definitely not there to help mankind, work with mankind, or protect us directly, i say directly because by killing them he helps and protects us, but thats just by-product, Godzilla's killing the Muto's to preserve the balance, to protect the Earth, the environment i guess, and by being on Earth, apart of the environment, we benefit too, again indirectly, but humanities survival was certainly were NOT a priority to Godzilla.
