Remember that part about the Rex-Kwan Do guy saying they needed a backup, no more flying solo? Napoleon kinda took that to heart when he asked Pedro since they were friends now if he would have his back. Well, at the end of the movie, Napoleon had Pedro's back when he had to dance on stage in front of everyone, not knowing what the reaction would be. Napoleon backed-up his buddy all the way and got him elected.
That is a special moment. Pedro hears the applause and he knows he probably won the election because of his friend, and starts to smile. Great moment👍🏼
Fun fact: Will Ferrell liked this movie so much, that he reached out to the guy playing Napoleon - and made "Blades of Glory" movie with him, which is such a hilarious movie. He also ended up making a movie with the guy playing Pedro, called "Casa de mi Padre" - a very dark weird comedy in spanish :D

@@Psichotica7 I was in Jr High in the early 80s. All the fashions, motifs, gaudy t-shirts, school binders, etc are all kind of "worst of" from that era. It was a weird time with the worst possible blend of 70s and 80s. Had some awesome music though!
@@norwegianblue2017 Yeah, what I've found is that our general conception of a particular decade really comes from about half way through said decade. Because the first half of any decade is still influenced from the preceding decade. So that would align with what you were saying. Sorry, I hope I explained that well enough. Many times I've seen a show or movie on tv and assumed it was from the 80's but it was actually early 90's. Just an example. P.S. I absolutely envy you! I was born '92. What I would give to have experienced the 70's and 80's! I watched a film called Over the Edge with a very young Matt Dillon from 1979 the other day. @@Psichotica7 Yes, we are always in a state of perpetual transition. Look at the early 60s vs late 60s. Saw that Matt Dillon film. So glad you guys enjoyed this one! I went to a screening of this movie a few months ago that Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efrain Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) were at. They stayed after the movie and did a bunch of fun stuff like trivia and then answered audience questions. They seemed like super nice guys. Fun facts I learned: -Jon Heder didn’t fake any of the “stunts”. Getting hit in the face by the steak, getting choked out and slammed into the lockers by the bully (who was actually the real life high school bully of the director’s brother), and even having his crotch absolutely destroyed by that bike (he was wearing a cup) were all essentially real because they had such a small budget and everything had to be done practically and with not a lot of thought toward safety. -Lyle, the farmer with the hard to understand speech, was actually kicked in the head by a horse AND struck by lightning leading to his speech impairments. Also, none of his dialogue was scripted. The director just told him to talk and that’s what they got. -The thing I was most surprised to find out was that Napoleon’s dance moves were completely improvised by Jon Heder. I thought he legit had a dance coach, but he said that the director and he were friends and he knew that Jon was just a really good dancer.
Kip and LaFawnduh are the cutest thing I've ever seen. She's so normal and yet she looks at Kip's nerdy little ass like he's Henry Cavill or something. My heart can hardly take it.

Napoleon was competing in a livestock fair. Towns with a lot of agriculture and ranching usually have these things with the high schoolers. In my town, it was Future Farmers of America. Lots of the kids even raise their own animal for the fair. Chickens, pigs, cows, you name it.
@@CassxowaryIs this meant to make people find animals more endearing? I don’t get your point. Livestock is a perfectly fine term. It straight up just means live animals that someone owns for farming purposes. It’s not dehumanizing or cruel.

This movie started my own genre of movies called “It’s so stupid it’s funny.” I remember before my Papaw passed, he would watch this movie several times and would laugh so hard. My siblings and I still use these quotes. John Heeder actually looks normal and it was crazy to see him when he won an award for playing Napoleon. I think he’s never lived down this role though. He just wanted a friend, Pedro helped him, so he put it all out there for pedro, then "Tamed" a horse to show his brother he really loved him. The end.
Years ago walmart sold "vote for pedro" . Tshirts. I bought one, the first time i wore it out the entire bar cheered when i walked in. My boyfriend at the time thought that they were cheering for me. 😂 i let him think that.
So this is filmed and based on my Mom’s home town (Preston Idaho). Her high school locker is in the movie, which is my only claim to fame in life. Let me tell you… this movie is 100% accurate. It got everything about Preston right. I remember all my cousins that lived there hating the movie and me subsequently calling them out for only hating it because it was so accurate haha. One cousin said the projector broke like 20 minutes in when she went to see it haha. I took my GF to visit and show her around earlier this year and took her by Napoleon’s house and high school and everything. It was so funny seeing her reaction. I was just sad because I couldn’t find Uncle Ricco’s van this trip. When they get the shakes in the movie, that’s at a place called Big Jay’s. Perhaps it’s just the nostalgia, but it’s my favorite burger place and literally the main reason I took my GF to visit.
Back in 2004, here in NY of all places, you could see dozens of people walking around with a Vote for Pedro t-shirt. I had no idea at first what it meant and I did not see the movie until it came out on HBO because I had very little interest of seeing it. When I did tune into HBO and it was already about 30 minutes into it, I turned the channel after a few minutes…not because I didn’t like it but because I quickly got the sense that this was something special and I needed to see it in its entirety. For Halloween, I went to a party dressed as Rex Kwan Do…I still cannot believe I found the same Stars and Stripes pants that he wore and every thing else as well
Everyone was obsessed with this movie when it came out it was honestly the funniest thing and people would quote it all the time and talk like him and do impressions saying "GOSH". And the tater tots gag and Liger was iconic 😆
:Vote for PEDRO" "What are you doing today Napoleon?" "Do the chickens have large Talons?" "Your mom goes to college" "Tina, you fat lard" AND SO MANY MORE QUOTES!!!!
This movie made me popular in high school. I was essentially Napoleon Dynamite. Awkward, kind of dorky, basically the same hairstyle, wore goofy shirts. I was like that for years. Then this gem came out when I was a Sophomore in high school, and everyone loved it and was like Oh wait, that is just like Nate lol.
This movie came out when I was in high school, and it was my favorite for years. It perfectly encapsulates that awkward age, plus it had so many awesome lines.
My family and I ran into Efron Ramirez (actor who portrayed Pedro) hiking in Olympic National Park. Didn’t recognize him at first. Outgoing and hilarious guy!
I grew up 10 min south of Preston and my cousin is the bus driver in the film. That cow incident actually happened. I think Lyle was the guy who did it.
So many of these phrases went hard in high school back then, this low budget movie had us in a chokehold hold. I remember rocking the “Vote for Pedro” shirt 😭
Prior to 1977 there was a union agreement that put the credits on the front of the movie so everyone could get their due. Lucas actually broke that when he wanted to open Star Wars with its iconic opening scroll.
At first I thought it took place in the 80s, but then i realized it takes place in a small town where the average home has tech and fashion about 20 years back. So I the movie takes place in 2004/2005. I can relate to this because in the small town I grew up in it was very similar. I got a lot of hand-me-downs from relatives so I looked like i was from another time period, as did a lot of other people I knew.
Napoleon's dance might not be your taste, but it definitely took way more skill than the back street boys dance. And it took guts. He is a weird shy kid and he did that for his friend. The school respected that. I would too.
They got some pretty decent actors for being such a small budget film by college students. Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) has been around forever. Tina Majorino had already been in pretty big movies and the Rex Kwon Do guy is Diedrich Bader who's been in a lot of things and been around for quite awhile. There's also Haylie Duff, Hillary Duff's sister. I'd like to know how they managed to get all these people to do it. $400k budget and it made $46.1 million. That's a massive success.
The first time I showed my parents this movie they didn’t like it at all…but then they watched it again and loved it lol. Definitely one of my fav childhood movies.
Really good noticing, you guys. My parents were from Preston and I spent a month or two there every summer with my grandparents when I was a kid. I never met anyone like Napoleon, but it’s not a surprise that a kid like that would come from a place like that. I love Preston, but there are definitely some weird things about the place.
I used to have a keychain on my backpack in like the 6th grade that would say Napoleon Dynamite phrases when you pushed a button. This movie is so silly, awkward, and cringe but it's also hilarious at the same time. I'm glad people are still finding this crazy movie.
Seriously, it's one of the funniest movies ever made. Total cult classic. It's funnier the 2nd and 3rd time, and then you find yourself quoting it, and then, if you've been to Preston Idaho, you die laughing every time you watch it. Especially if you were in a small podunk high school in the 80s. You can buy Vote for Pedro shirts at Kohls even today.
I grew up in this town, this county, in Wisconsin. This movie perfectly reflects the feeling of being in midwest rural unincorporated suburbia during 1995-2005. It is a perfect portrait of all the stupid hand-me-down bullshit we got from our parents, the town, the local people, the public institutions, everything. I even had an old ass fuckin Magnavox from 1979 that was built in like furniture. I played hand-me-down SNES 10 years after the fact on a tiny near portable Samsung black and white TV, and eventually I got to a color one after we finally got DSL in 2005. Think about that, it took that long to get past a dial up modem in that area of the states. There always kids trying to sell stupid shit door to door, having to drive miles between each house for fundraisers and such. The local populace was nearly a completely farming community, counter-culture was extremely hard to find and if you were the counter to the norm, you were essentially lambasted or alienated for your interests like Napoleon. So this movie is perfect, it's like a love letter to all that stupid bullshit from that 10 year period. IYKYK, if you were there then you totally get this.
7:55 is a result of 4:34, which explains all the steaks through the rest of the movie. also, I lived in a trailer park on the side of a mountain, next to a cow farm, and our bus stop was next to the fence line. So again, small town stuff, totally accurate.
I've grown to love this movie since my childhood when I considered it as odd but enjoyable, the way the movie is shot and filmed just has that nostalgic, school film vibe (in more ways than one) that I really enjoy
My favorite part of the movie is Lafawnduh’s family’s reaction to her marriage. It’s like bewilderment and also acceptance because”well as long as he makes you happy” lol
I had a house full of teenagers laughing so hard at this movie when it first came out for rental way back. Took me three times to sit and watch it before I could laugh. Told my boys I know you know kids in school like this you can empathize with!
My son told me to watch this movie. I turned it off after a few minutes. He said I had to watch it for at least 15 minutes. I set the timer. I got hooked. Now I love it.
This has always been one of my favorites. It's so comfy and being from a small town in Washington but having spent a lot of time in Idaho it's very nostalgic. For better or worse, Idaho is really like this 🤣
Some people ask, whats the point of this movie. It doesn’t really have a “point”. It’s a slice of life movie. Just watching the daily lives of the characters.
Our family loves this movie !my three children learned so much from this of how to be accepting of people not like everyone else . They still refer to Napoleon years later when talking about quirkiness and all their different personalities
One of the few movies that puts me in tears when I watch it. It's so damn funny and weird. I went to school with a couple kids that were like Napoleon (before the movie came out). Everyone in this movie is cast so perfectly and every scene is straight out of bizarro world.
i’m sure someone already said it, but the scene where kip ran over the tupperware and it busted, that wasn’t supposed to happen and his response of “dang it!” and just driving off was completely improvised
This was fun to watch with you. I had a similar reaction the first time I saw this movie - very slow, unique characters, an odd underdog of a lead character, Pedro is a good friend, & very dry humor. Love his confidence & bold dancing! One thing that escaped me the first time I watched it, Pedro mentions in his campaign speech that they (the school) "have a great FFA schedule lined up" .... FFA is Future Farmers of America & it is a club that high schools in rural areas have for students interested in farming & 4- H projects. This Idaho setting is so different for us city and suburb people! Glad you reacted to it!😄❤️

:Vote for PEDRO"
"What are you doing today Napoleon?"
"Do the chickens have large Talons?"
"Your mom goes to college"
"Tina, you fat lard"
AND SO MANY MORE QUOTES!!!!
"I see you're drinking 1%..."
"I bet I can throw a football over them mountains"
My friend Tina hated when this movie came out 🤣
The way uncle rico mis pronounces coccyx always makes me crack up
Make yourself a dang quesadilla - we say it all the time here when some says they’re hungry 😂😂
7:00 "MY other arm" 😂
The best 😂
"...wait. you forgot the crystals"
perfect delivery of a perfectly absurd line.
This is an entire movie of perfectly absurd lines ❤😂
This reaction was hilarious. Y’all were so much fun
When me and my brother were teenagers we both owned a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt. Love this movie!
Haha your reaction to Napoleans drawing😂
I’d like to be supportive, and say Napoleon did his best, but even that doesn’t seem like a compliment.
So many of these phrases went hard in high school back then, this low budget movie had us in a chokehold hold. I remember rocking the “Vote for Pedro” shirt 😭
All the cool kids did 😂
Prior to 1977 there was a union agreement that put the credits on the front of the movie so everyone could get their due. Lucas actually broke that when he wanted to open Star Wars with its iconic opening scroll.
Napoleon and Pedro are in the FFA(Future Farmers of America). It is popular in rural areas of the US👍🏼
We have one in a public school here in Philly 😂😂.. Its called Saul and I went there
At first I thought it took place in the 80s, but then i realized it takes place in a small town where the average home has tech and fashion about 20 years back. So I the movie takes place in 2004/2005. I can relate to this because in the small town I grew up in it was very similar. I got a lot of hand-me-downs from relatives so I looked like i was from another time period, as did a lot of other people I knew.
Yeah pre internet days were organic.
“This is the worst video ever!”
“Napoleon, like anybody could even know that”
Still one of my top 3 comedies!!!!!! I die every time Uncle Rico throws the steak at Napoleon 😂😂😂😂😂😂 such a classic. Great reaction
Napoleon's dance might not be your taste, but it definitely took way more skill than the back street boys dance. And it took guts. He is a weird shy kid and he did that for his friend. The school respected that. I would too.
“Why is he dressed like Rock Lee”? Lmao
Who’s Rock Lee?
Character from Naruto@@seanabadalich9112
This movie is pretty hilarious and what you're supposed to get is that Idaho takes 10 years or more to get with the times because they are so behind
Idaho here. Closer to 30 years,
@@sherigrow6480 oh okay well I was way off haha 😂
@@sherigrow6480I'm from Idaho too and I approve your message 😊
Jon heder who plays napoleon dynamite only got paid 1000 dollars to be in this movie
That's like a dollar an hour🐔
@@richardrobbins387 pretty much haha 😂
to be fair the budget of the movie was only $400k and once the movie was successful he was paid more
@@kluneberg8952 oh okay I didn't know that
@@richardrobbins387 OMG GENIUS 👏👏👏😂
What makes this movie so great is that it’s so idiotic and random 😂❤
and realistic!
It captures the awkwardness of high school perfectly.
Napoleon’s dance is iconic 😎
Jon Heder is that dude one of my favorite throwaway lines of all time I still use it to this day is "build her or cake or something."
Kip is that dude
The budget to profit ratio on this film was absolutely staggering.
Like I cannot make this shit up. I've even seen cows go down executioner style.
One of my favorites and have watched it so many times. Thanks for reacting and sharing your thoughts and reactions. 🤗❤️
7:55 is a result of 4:34, which explains all the steaks through the rest of the movie.
also, I lived in a trailer park on the side of a mountain, next to a cow farm, and our bus stop was next to the fence line. So again, small town stuff, totally accurate.
I remember watching this in 2004, feeling it was already 20 years old at the time. That town sure is a magical place.
I've grown to love this movie since my childhood when I considered it as odd but enjoyable, the way the movie is shot and filmed just has that nostalgic, school film vibe (in more ways than one) that I really enjoy
It’s such a weird film lool but I love it, so many quotable lines
@@alisoyupak2730 It is quite an odd movie but I rock with it
Such a simple "story" but its just so freakin' good
I used consider napoleon as one of those unrealistic characters in the real world
I think we all enjoyed building those sketchy bicycle ramps in the 80s 😂🤣
I remember for years after this movie came out you could see "Vote for Pedro" tee-shirts everywhere.
My favorite part of the movie is Lafawnduh’s family’s reaction to her marriage. It’s like bewilderment and also acceptance because”well as long as he makes you happy” lol
Omg, the guy's face when Napoleon puts the tots in his pocket. 😂
Jon had his hair professionally permed for this movie it almost fell out because of all the chemicals he used
more like because he had to get it permed twice but yah same thing
@@Cassxowary pretty much yeah
that's not a thing. a perm is just a perm. people get them all the time
@@StanleyKubick1 it's what jon said ask him yourself if you ever meet him at a con
@@StanleyKubick1 It can definitely be a thing. Especially if hair has been colored.
For better or worse, Idaho is really like this 🤣
We have to re-watch this every year or so since it first came out. Our whole family quotes it to this day 😅
I love this movie. Everyone went to school with Napoleon Dynamite
I watched this whole thing just for the LaFawnduh reveal. Worth.
if you grew up in a small town this movie is a lifelong favorite.
-Shawsville, Virginia.
Some people ask, whats the point of this movie. It doesn’t really have a “point”. It’s a slice of life movie. Just watching the daily lives of the characters.
Y’all gotta react to Nacho Libre next !! It was made by the same people and came out around the same time. Both two of my favorite movies.
Our family loves this movie !my three children learned so much from this of how to be accepting of people not like everyone else . They still refer to Napoleon years later when talking about quirkiness and all their different personalities
Pedro and Napoleon have each others’ backs.
One of the few movies that puts me in tears when I watch it. It's so damn funny and weird. I went to school with a couple kids that were like Napoleon (before the movie came out). Everyone in this movie is cast so perfectly and every scene is straight out of bizarro world.
by bizarro world you mean small town america (anywhere in america not just the US)
i’m sure someone already said it, but the scene where kip ran over the tupperware and it busted, that wasn’t supposed to happen and his response of “dang it!” and just driving off was completely improvised
There's just something about having lived in that era that makes me get every single nuance of this movie... including the toy out the window
