    I've heard of taking old vintage nylon arms and boiling them to bring back some life. I haven't tried it, I just have and Old Shelf Queen.

    My Slash is almost exactly the same as far as the upgrades go. I'm still running Badlands wheels tire combo. I'm looking to switch to street\car tires.. Those rims and tires you have there are awesome.

    My upgrades:
    STRC Aluminum C-Hubs
    RPM Steering Knuckles
    Proline ProTrac Shock Towers, A-Arms and turnbuckles
    Proline adjustable Body Mounts and SecureLoc system
    STRC Aluminum rear Hub Carriers
    STRC Aluminum Bellcrank
    Traxxas LCG Conversion kit
    Castle Creations Sidewinder SCT combo
    Traxxas Anodized Aluminum Wheel Nuts
    Traxxas Adjustable Wheelie Bar
    RPM Front Bumper
    Traxxas Hardened Steel TiN Shock Shafts
    Speedtreads Shootout tires
    It's a lot, but my truck is pretty close to indestructible and fully race capable.

      newagemuscle2010ss It was expensive, but well worth it! I'm not to happy with Proline products though, they never come with hardware or even instructions. At least their tires are about as good as Jconcepts.

      5goodfellas The 1 issue I have with the LCG chassis, is that I now need insanely high grip tires and traction compound on the carpet track I race on. Lower CG means less roll, less roll means less mechanical force on the tires resulting in less traction.

    RPM makes great products. Aluminum parts are nice, but once bent, they are worthless. Usually the only thing metal I will run is the bulkheads and drive lines. Everything else is either RPM, or STRC products. I have yet to break an RPM A Arm. Stainless screws are great too.
    I run 50W oil in my shocks on my Nitro Revo 3.3, and it made a world of difference in the way it handles.

    Very smart bro !! functionality overlooks all day ! very nice job I’ve done the exact same upgrades to my / plus integy shock towers front and rear! The truck is incredible! Same motor as you as well! Very very fast oh yea front and rear sway bars, you should look into those they really make a huge difference

    The reason those shock caps blow off is the suspention has no restricktions once it is fully extended . The udr had straps to stop the suspention from fully extending breaking parts . The real truck need this mod for endurance .

    Commented at 10:24 into the video: That happens to me too, one time I made a jump out of a hard cardboard and the previous jump made my bumper do that. When the bumper is like that it scrapes the jump. I teared a giant hole in the card board. Maybe I should get the RPM bumper. Thanks for pointing that out.

      Traxxas trucks are tough I let a 4 year old drive my traxxas slash 2wd brushless, he crashed straight into a metal poll at full throttle he got scared and ran to his mother saying I'm sorry I looked at the truck and there was no damage just a bent stock bumper, he picked the controller back up and drove... Into another wall, I looked at the truck expecting to see severe damage... Plastic Lexan body crumpled a little bit I popped it right back out, his mother wouldn't let him drive it anymore and the left the little park I was at.

    a little late but you should try running a little longer gear, that 23t pinion is the stock pinion for brushless motors, look like you started with a brushed which would be the stock 19t. i run a 28/83 gear and its a perfect combo for good speeds and good acceleration, and stays cool.

    FYI - The ti-nitrite coating on the shock shafts does nothing for strength, it's all about creating silky smooth action along the length of the shock shaft. It just reduces the chance of the shaft getting surface damage. The shaft is still the same metal NOT titanium.

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      that may be the case in being a coating, but they are still a stronger shaft over the stock ones. I don't know if you are referring to different ones than I have on my car.

    • @zedorda1337
      @zedorda1337 8 років тому

      True there are harden steel shafts and even forged shafts but I just wanted the viewers to understand correctly that the after market shafts called NIB or titanium are not actually completely made of titanium just coated in it. Unless expressed as harden or heavy duty don't just assume they are for strength bc there is another reason for the coating. Awesome video either way :)
      P.S. Bending shock shafts are often bad batches on metal and are rarely bc of misuse. I have had stock shock shafts bend on my first pack then the stock replacements then last years. The actual rating on the steel used for shock shafts should break plastic with easy which is what leads me to believe it is just bad batches.

  • @davinjames2909

    The Lcg isn’t bad but you will constantly break plastic braces that hold the servo arms I broke mine just by going down a curb

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  3 роки тому

      I have not had that issue yet on any of our cars. Three of my cars have the lcg and I've never broke anything and we have some pretty decent size curbs. Sounds like you took a pretty nice hit. And some of the cooler months I've had issues with some of the parts because they become brittle, but during the warmer weather things seem to be a little more robust and flexible.

      Airborne Fister I probably should do an updated video. I've done some additional things to it since I made this one. I've also got more involved with my 4 x 4 slash ultimate. I did wind up upgrading the shocks on all three of the cars to the big bore. They seem to work out pretty good for the type of riding style I do.

  • @UrAvgRasian

    Technically a stock is perfectly fine if you aren't trying to bashing it to death. I've owned a fully stock slash for a year now and it perfectly fine. Titan 12T 550 and 30C 5200mAh lipo gets me a good solid 20mph for random fun. Unless it's the beach then I need better battery.

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      stock the Slash is a very robust machine. it doesn't take bashing to break stuff though. running on an indoor track can take its toll on your vehicle from jumping or others just running into you. it all depends on the application the car in being used in. the mods I suggest is just a way to bullet proff it all around.

  • @achilles1373
    @achilles1373 4 роки тому +1

    I'm hesitant on a LCG frame bc I bash a good bit off-road. I just feel like it would make me less capable. Thoughts?

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  4 роки тому +2

      I guess it just all depends. I bashed with mine and so did my boys and never had any problems at all. If you really look at the low center-of-gravity chassis, it's really not lowering the stance of the vehicle other than the center.it's literally equivalent to the front and rear skid plate running all the way across the vehicle. Yes, you're going to lose some clearance under the center, but if that's not an issue for the type of driving you're doing I would say go for it. The thing I liked about it so much more is it increased the handling by 100%. That alone made it that much more fun for me to drive. I'm sure others will have different opinions than mine though.

As for what I have into my truck, if you're referring to cost, I could not even tell you. I know it has definitely added up. As for recommendations, pretty much everything I cover in this video and the video I do on my 4x4 Slash really focuses on the weak points of this RC platform. I really believe if you follow a lot of the things I've done you will have yourself a very robust RC car.

      What is the part called that you replaced on the rear end? RPM Gear Box Cover? I am having the same issue as your son with that part underneath popping off track from the slot. Also is that a part that can be replaced if I don't have the LCG chassis?

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  7 років тому

      It's actually the RPM rear bumper Mount. I think the part number is rpm80902. This is required in order for you to attach the RPM rear bumper. Essentially you have to buy both of them, but it will eliminate that problem from happening ever again. The standard bumper attachment will pop off no matter how many times you fix it or if you even try and glue it.

    great video man. i have a slash 2wd as well. big fan of rpm, currently have hubs by them and was toying with the idea of a arms. currently running big bores with 50 weight. gave the car alot better ride, but always had a problem with the rear bottoming out and could not find a good set of stiffer springs, may i ask what springs your running on the rear (entity maby?) other then that, made a metal front bumper witch i later gave to a friend (bad choice). found it made it roll alot more predictably through the corners. currently looking into new tires and am wondering how worth it was the low center gravity chassis. do you have a comparison vid by chance (i.e. testing chassis side by side around corners with same electrical system)? other then that great vid and hope to see more :)

    I've seen the videos where the cars are going into wheel stands at like 15-20 mph?! Do you have any idea whether electric powered can achieve this with readily available upgrades or are these custom upgraded builds ?

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      +Chris Sly Hi Chris, yes... this can easily
      be accomplished by an electric car. There are a few factors to get you there.
      First, you need a tire that is going to hook verse spin on the pavement when
      you mash the throttle. Second a nice brushless setup with the right gearing,
      and third which is probably the biggest thing, having the right power source to
      catapult your car with the torque you need (3 cell battery). Normally a 3 cell
      battery alone will do this for you. Even my 4wd Slash will pull the tires off
      the ground from a roll if I am running a 3 cell.

Do you recommend upgrade those? My daughter drives my slash too so I need to bullet proof it like yours. Thanks

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      +Ang Par The Ultra shocks are not a bad way to go, but by the time you spend the money on upgrades you are just about at the same price if you would have bought the Big Bore shocks. Since this video I have upgraded both my boys cars to the Big Bores. The biggest issue with the Ultra shocks besides the weak shock shafts is it's a plastic housing. The top plastic caps will pop off on a hard hit. This can be upgradded too by buying the aluminum caps, but then again when you do all that you are just about to the price of a Big Bore shock. Either way you will be fine and wind up with a robust shock in the end. Now... if you do decide to upgrade, for a few bucks more you can do the GTR shocks. In my opinion these are a true big bore shock. They are what come on the Slahs 4x4 Ultimate. I have them on that car and they are awesome. The will also work on the 2wd model. My brother and buddy both upgraded their 2wd cars with the GTR shocks. As for the titanium shock shaft part numbers you asked for... now that I think about it, they are just the replacement shafts for the Big Bore shocks, but will work on the Ultra shock.

    • @angpar8449
      @angpar8449 8 років тому

      +newagemuscle2010ss thanks again good sir for the quick reply. You are right....by the times it all said and done trying to upgrade the ultra shocks I would have dished out enough cash to just upgrade. I like your recommendation on upgrading to the GTR shocks. Do the GTR shocks have all aluminum bodies as well as titanium shafts? What are part numbers for the GTR shocks? Hope you don't mind but I'm building my slash with your same upgrades!! Thanks again for the help!!!

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      +Ang Par Yes, the GTR shocks have aluminum bodies and titanium shafts. They do have a plastic caps, but due to the larger diameter it should never be an issue of the caps popping off. i have never heard of that being an issue, but the do sell the if you want them. I am Not sure what the part number is. I do know they are standard on the 4x4 slash ultimate. I hope my setup works well for you.

      +Red White & Blued if your just having fun in front of the house stock should be fine. there are obviously more aggressive treads on the market. where the rubber really makes a noticeable difference is on the track. if you are considering racing the you will find different variables based on the track surface you are running on. these are a great hobby to get into for bonding with your kids. no regrets here. good luck.

      OP Airsoft I never had any issues with the gears. What you will find with 3s is you are going to be traveling much faster and are going to hit a lot harder especially if you are doing bashing outside. Things that would normally break will just break much quicker.

    On your traxxas slash what kinda shocks do you have..???

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  4 роки тому

      The ones in the video are just the stock nylon shock bodies dyed back. Since then I have upgraded to the big bore shocks.

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  4 роки тому

      The stock shocks are not really bad at all. They do have some weak points to them though. If you're running them I would advise you to buy the aluminum for the top. This will prevent them from popping off on a hard landing. the shock shafts are also a weak point intend to bend pretty easy. I know I speak of that in the video. I switched those out as soon as they started to bend.

      IceColdKilax They are by AKA. The tires are called Handlebars and the wheels are also by AKA. The are the Cyclone wheels. You can buy the pre-mounted... that's what I did. They run around $25-$30 pre-mounted depending where you buy.

    Is the lcg chassis bad for a monster slash?

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  4 роки тому

      I guess it all depends what kind of driving you do. Technically it's not lowering the overall vehicle. As I showed in the video, it's equivalent to the front and rear skid plates running all the way across the bottom of the car. If you're looking to maintain that extra ground clearance in the center of the vehicle, then I would probably say it's not for you. For the type of driving I do I like it because it offers me better handling.

    gonna go Brushless on my 2wd slash should I go Traxxas brushless or Castle Creations?

    • @newagemuscle2010ss

      both are great... some of the castles are more affordable than the comparable Traxxas motors.

      I think a lot of it has to do with you are paying for the Traxxas name. If you are just looking for something to have fun with, the castle is definitely the more affordable way to go and you will be not lacking anything compared to the Traxxas motors.

    • @newagemuscle2010ss

      To be perfectly honest with you, I can't give you advice when it comes to that. I normally run my cars on indoor tracks. If they do happen to see the pavement I normally just run the stock Traxxas tires.

    this is a good video and great info.... however I personally feel that most of these aren't "must haves" simply cause people do have different driving styles and therefore different requirements for "bulletproofing" im not trying to knock your advice I just think that people should go based on there driving style like me im a heavy basher and I have had the rpm caster and steerling blocks and broke em all cause of how hard I bash got the rpm a-arms all the way around and aluminum steering and caster blocks and never broke anything since and to me I think the lcg upgrade is more of a racer/speed type driving doesn't work for me but like I said great vid and good advice I enjoyed watching it :)

      p.s. thumbs up for rpm bumpers I have em on all my trucks

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  10 років тому +1

      Thanks for the compliments on the vid. Like I stated in the video... I started off with the mentality... don't fix it if it's not broke. That is probably the best rule of thumb to go by. To be honest with you I just really went all out on my car because it was a long winter here in Michigan and I was bored. A lot of the stuff I upgraded was unnecessary, but some of the stuff I would say was a must. My must haves for my driving style are aluminum caster/steering, RPM A-arms, and the STRC hardened pin kit. Since I have done that stuff... I never break. As for the LCG chassis, I would say it does help a lot in the handling department, but is also fine for bashing. If u think about it you do not lose ground clearance with it. The big difference is the skid plate runs all the front to back now. I guess u could say u do lose a little in the middle, but it never effects my bashing and allows it to handle much better when I am having fun.

    All I ever run is 3S/5000 35C! I "almost" never crash! Most of truck is upgraded to RPM with Pro Line 2 stage shocks. I find 2S boring! What happens to you with 3S? Sincerely : )

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  7 років тому

      GLOCKATTACK45 3s is definitely fun and it's kind of boring to go back to a 2s after you're running a 3s. The only problem I is keeping the front wheels on the ground regardless if I'm running my slash 2 wheel drive or I slash ultimate. Even with RPM though the extra speed can cause things to break much easier with the added top speed of a 3s. The very first time I put a 3s in my slash ultimate I broke the whole chassis in half.

    Hmm you said you run 86, 23 gearing? I have a sidewinder 3 esc with a fan on it and the 4600kv motor. It's about 6 months old and I run 90, 23 but somehow my motor finds a way to get hot enough to burn my finger every time I feel it after half a run on a 20c 3s on a pretty mild day (75ish). Do you have any overheating problems with your motor getting hot?

      @quentinc1275 8 років тому

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому +1

      I have not really noticed a big issue with overheating. At least not on One battery. If I am running battery after battery I have found it to be a problem, but I do normally let them cool down between runs. Lately I don't really check the Temps because I have been running it outside more up at the cottage. When I run at my local hobby shop "Larry's RC" on their indoor track, I do tend to check temps there more often.

      Iron Crow RPM is the company that makes all the upgraded replacement parts for many different RC cars. As for what they claim their acronym stands for, I am not sure. RPM normally is acronym used to describe revolutions per minute. You may have already known that though. I'm not actually sure what their company uses it to describe though. I've tried to look in the past myself and have found nothing.

    How much is low chassis

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss  8 років тому

      Aidan Campbell I can't remember exactly off hand. I know it was probably more than 20, but there was no way it was more than 30. I would have to dig up receipts which I probably don't have anymore anyway. It's been a few years. I highly recommend the upgrade. Technically you are not going to lose any more ground clearance than the car already has stock. The big difference is the skid plate in the front and rear simply runs all the way across the vehicle now. You are going to increase your handling much more. It will be a much better vehicle overall.

      BfhCheese
      If you are looking to upgrade the 2wd slash for racing just forget about it. a stock sc10.2 is lightyears above a slash with 500$ of upgrades.
      I replied to your original comment first since you deleted it. I honestly could not agree more with you. I am not a racer. I originally bought this car is a way to just kill time during the winter. My true hobby is my real car if you look at my youtube page. As for the modifications I did to my Slash... I strictly did it out of boredom over the winter time and also dumped a lot of money into my boys cars. The other big reason I went with the slash is because they are very durable cars and my local hobby shop pretty much has every piece in stock all the time. I have a long history with Team Associated and their vehicles are very good. If I was a racer, I would probably go that direction. I have not touched this car or any of my cars and probably over a year. Too caught up with life I guess.
