The issue with it forcing Dolby Vision for all content is that it's displaying anything that isn't actually in Dolby Vision incorrectly. I suppose if you prefer that look it's fine, but it definitely isn't accurate. I ended up upgrading to a Panasonic UB820 from my Sony X700 for that reason since the Panasonic only activates Dolby Vision with discs and content that support it natively. With the Sony players you have to enable and disable it manually, but like I said, different strokes. Glad you're happy with your purchase!
While I'm okay with that upgrade, it's not really a comparable matchup. That Panasonic DP-UB820 costs more than twice as much. You could of gotten two Sony UBP-X800M2's and a couple of 4K movies, you instead got a single Panasonic DP-UB820 and no movies. Still, is a very nice upgrade, just a fairly large jump up the ladder. Top marks for this effort from Sony sound quality is the best when using SACDs and Amazing picture quality too as long as you use a 4k TV of course, I am only using a cheap TCL 4k Monitor but delighted with the picture quality. I am also using 4k cables as well bought separately. But after using this since July 20 when I purchased it its been a constant going in and out of sound settings to get the sound to work. The main problem here is if you plan to just use it for blu ray, network and CDs that's fine but as soon as you put in a SACD there is no output in Super Audio so its back in to sound settings to re set it to play SACDs then after that it goes dead again no sound when trying to watch a Blu Ray/You Tube/or normal CD and if that's not a nightmare in itself you get TWO HDMI outs one for Audio/Video and one for Audio Out only which I am guessing is for SACD. I have managed to get the SACD output working in the past but I just work out when I changed in settings, why the heck can't Sony just have one HDMI out and set the sound to adjust itself for ALL outputs not have to keep going in and out of settings every time I want to change from normal sound to DSD/Super Audio CD its a complete nightmare and very frustrating and more bother than its worth I am considering selling this unit for a better brand. Very angry with Sony they have gone down the drain the last few years with their products.
I cant get decent sound using AirPods via bluetooth. Sony services spent 2 + hours and could not get it to work either. Anybody have any ideas before this goes back?
Was it more expensive than a regular UBP-X800M2? I ask because the region-tree players I've checked out here (Toronto) are much more expensive than the exact same 'non'-region free models. I think the stores will unbox some of them them, disassemble them and add a circuit board or whatever, enabling them to play multi-region discs. Just as yours says 'region A' on the box (at 3:00), once they change it, they put a 'region free' sticker on the box and the player itself. Actually, it's still brand new and perfectly good and everything, but it's still considered a 'no no' to make region-free players because of some stupid law about new movies being shown in different countries months ahead of their release and that it will somehow affect sales or copyright protection. I see their point in a way, but I highly doubt people are going to use region-free players for any illegal reasons. I actually have a Sony UBP-X800 (the first one), but need a multi-region player too. Unfortunately, like I said, even a cheaper $75 Sony (once it's upgraded to region-free) is $219 on Amazon here! Grr!!
When the UBP-X800M2 was first released it costs $299. Now it’s between $240-$260. I got this Region Free version from Amazon for $375. So it was expensive. But it’s worth every penny.
Got mine at Best Buy during the epidemic. Didn't say anything on the box about region free. I bought a Pinkfloyd the wall movie blu ray. Not knowing that it wouldn't play on a regular blu ray player. I was pissed at the seller on eBay for selling it. I put the disk in this player, and it worked!
I am thinking to get the player, thank you for the review. I only wonder how did you get two movies with the player, it looks like Sony doesn't supply them anymore.
Kamerton Audiophile player Yes you should own this player. The reason why Sony put those movies in the box it’s because they feature Dolby Vision. It’s for promotional use.
I see that you and most people don't say absolutely nothing regarding audio, which is sad. So how does this player perform in the AUDIO department. I have some SACD and DVD-AUDIO disks so how does this unit perform when it comes to music? Thanks.
I'm like you, I'm all about the audio. I have had pioneer DVD-A/SACD players, Oppo and now I have 2 Sony X800's. This is about as good as it get for DVD-A and SACD for a reasonable price. The X800m2 sounds great. Just wish you could pick what you wanted to stream, like premium music streaming channels.
@@jonahschneider3340 no I was talking about that Sony Blu-ray player you have. Are all X800 m2s region free? Like is that a standard feature for that model or did you do something special to yours.
@@TheChefComic The one I have is from Amazon. There’s a link in the description. All other Sony 4K players you get from a store only has region code locked to A.
Well I have to agree on some 'Blu-ray' movies but I guess the reason why it puts standard Blu-ray movies to Dolby Vision it's because of the upscale. However when it comes to 4K Blu-ray discs like Disney's 2019 'The Lion King', the HDR has nice colors. But the Dolby Vision makes the colors boost into dynamic on the 4K disc of 'The Lion King'. Same thing with the 4K of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.
I will write to Sony to find out if only mine is a lemon, or maybe they all are: My player, EU model, needs to be unplugged for some 10 sec. daily, or it freezes when using Netflix. Occasionally crashes with UA-cam and during blu ray playback, too. And no Amazon Prime. Software updated, still on warranty.

So far not yet. I recently gotten an update and the Region Free function is still working. So yes I still recommend this player.
@@jonahschneider3340connecting this player wont disable the regioj free
Player is good tho having to manually turn Dolby Vision on and off is a massive pain in the ass
hi can anyone help. mine won't play region four Australia, I'm in uk, how do I get it to play please
Hi there, are you experiencing any freezing issues during playback and when you want it to perform a function, and intermittent clicking noises? Can you tell me how you get the dolby vision displays on yr tv as i dont get it on my Sony tv?
Can you use a new 4k 3d blu-ray player and conect it to a 3d TV not 4k and still watch 3d movies?
Yes you can.
Only one question my friend, for playing MKV files that have Dolby digital plus audio code, does it ready or play on your system?
Hey when you put in a different region blue ray or dvd do you have to press a certain button on the remote or does it play them automatically?
Mine played automatically.
I just bought this player today but it's not playing my region B disc's. Is there a function to make it 0?
tell me how the disc is inserted into the player? the tray is leaving?
Only one disc at at time. And yes the tray does pop out.
Hi there...I have a question for you.. I own this model in Greece region 2 not region free..can I somehow change the region and play region 1 blu rays?? It plays perfect the uhd discs from USA.. I would appreciate your advice...
How good is the 3d compared to other players?
I hate to use YT comments to ask for tech support. Feel free to tell me to eff-off but I got the sense you might be able help. I paired a pair of Bose Bluetooth headphones with this player and no matter what I do the audio comes out distorted when played from this Mark 2. Thoughts?
I have no problem.
I'm using a pair of JBL's wireless. From Marlboro store. And it works fine.
I got the same player and followed the instructions to change regions but it didn't work. Any ideas, or was I perhaps cheated?
Did you get it on stores or online stores on Amazon or did you purchase it from the link in the description below?

Thanks for the review on a multi region/free 4k blu ray player. I'm looking for a region free 4k blu ray player, for my region 3 and vcd martial arts movies that I bought from my local chinese bookstore. Update: I ordered this same one last week Thursday 5/27/21
What TV did you have?
I have an LG 55" UH8500.
@@jonahschneider3340 I have an LG as well but called a Hisense 55'
The color buttons aren’t working
It's exactly inverted: blu-ray are regions and DVD are zones.
NOTE dvd audio is an audio disc with True 5.1 surround in 24bit NOT VIDEO
Helo sir where did i get those Demo Videos plz 😊
Can't decide between this or an LG ubk80, also, my current blu ray player, plays DVDs of any region straight away with no settings adjustments needed, however you do need to change the settings for blu rays. Is this the case for this player?
Yes Dvd plays automatic regardless of region but you have to change the region setting for Blu Ray
No not for me.
Can someone help me make it region free? I am open to all suggestions. Where it goes wrong for me is when I take the disc back out and shut it off, I press the blue button and Its DOESN'T turn back on. What am I missing I even reset it back to the factory settings. Still didn't work. I bought this brand new.
Have the exact same issue. Worst part is, I used to play region A discs on it all the time. But now I just can’t seem to get it to work
This is the Modified version right
I was asking the same thing. I bought one in Europa to come and find out that its region locked. Sucks ass. Seems that certain companies mod the player before selling it. My advice is to contact the store rep. and query them on the matter before purchasing
@@suppaduppa yeah I already got mine and it's Region A, which I was a little disappointed since I have a couple of region B discs but the ones I have are usually 5 or 10 dollars, I still recommend it for 4K content it looks beautiful

Thanks for the video. how are you liking the sony x800m2? I am having issues with movies starting on my LG UBK90 and might be looking to replace it
Jay Stephen Christian It’s an amazing player. It reads the discs fine, it starts them fine, and you’ll view them as fine as the LG UBK90.
@@jonahschneider3340 I was wondering if the x800m2 is better then the x800. I use to have a x800 and froze on a few 4k movies. I heard the x800m2 fixes these issues and has a better processor and Dolby Vision
Do you know if this player supports 220v? Thank you for showing the power cable btw
Does not.
Is it possible we could add more videos Apps other than Netflix ?
Sadly no.

SACD uses the DSD format so you should have a receiver that supports DSD or a receiver with analog 5.1 inputs
NOTE SACD is Not PCM
Does it play SACDs?
Yes
Where did you purchase yours?
Noel Bondoc Amazon. The link to purchase it is in the description.
I cant get decent sound using AirPods via bluetooth. Sony services spent 2 + hours and could not get it to work either. Anybody have any ideas before this goes back?
How did you get it to auto switch to Dolby Vision?
It doesn't
It's in settings.
Payed 300.00 for it.
@@JohnDoe-bz3ic does it work?
Can you manually configure the DNS or is only DHCP?
I’m not sure. I haven’t done that.
Bought the same player but mine is not region free the 4k discs are but not regular bluray or dvd's got mine here in Canada
Are there 3D TVs on the market today or should one simply forget the whole thing?
3D TVs are no longer sold in stores or online retail only way you can buy one now is second hand off Ebay or other selling sites

A receiver that supports DSD is recommended if you are transmitting audio with HDMI
Hi do u have this Producer? I have sony tv but not 3d if i buy this Producer will work 3d or no
I see that you and most people don't say absolutely nothing regarding audio, which is sad.
All most forgot the dual HDMI cables, one for audio and one for video.
Where would you connect the audio auxiliary?
Is it THX certified?
After my X700 died suddenly after 2yrs, I thought I'm not buying another Sony, so a day later I buy a X800 M2 🤔

It’s a 2016 LG 55” UH8500. Yes it displays 3D.
Is this player region free?
Mine was. And didn't mention that on the box.
Is it region free by default?
I think it's a bad thing if the player forces DV when the disc doesn't have DV (HDR10 and normal blu-ray)
No audio analog exits 😮
I will write to Sony to find out if only mine is a lemon, or maybe they all are:
My player, EU model, needs to be unplugged for some 10 sec. daily, or it freezes when using Netflix.
Occasionally crashes with UA-cam and during blu ray playback, too. And no Amazon Prime. Software updated, still on warranty.
No problem here. But I did have to reboot once. Acting up. Can't remember what it did. But the reboot did it . No problem since.
I don't stream movies because they show in letterbox with bars and b or the full screen as i like it.
All the new 4K playerz include 3D, but az far az I no, nobodyz making 3D TVz. Maybe they are in the works?
No.
Mine wont play SACD shows it playing but no sound yet plays normal CDs and DVDs, tried getting in touch with Sony just send round in circles with FAQs then when you get to a chat no one is available same as by phone. I tried sending a message direct then it said my phone number was unrecognised etc etc I am thinking of selling this piece of junk and getting a dedicated SACD player
