Say red where the blacks would have been through some colours as you elevate into a say green as the the previous white before height mapping.
Will heightfield map work directly from bump maps or do they need to be converted to jpg first? And... thank-you. This is the information I've been seeking all week.
hi. when you say a bump map do you mean a black and white image that is interpreted by a render package as high and low for the lighting to reflect off. Both bump maps and heightfeld maps are map procedures from an image source. bump is for rendering. but heightfeld results in a surface. perhaps you meant bitmap to which the answer is yes no problem.

Both actually. I couldn't remember in what format the bump maps where stored. But I did want to know about bmp format as well. Thanks much.
