I clean and press my own books and before all the new hires at CGC I was averaging 80% of my books getting 9.8. Now I'm averaging about 55% and I'm doing nothing different
Yupppp. I know exactly what you mean
Now that was a large submission. Even though I could see your frustration you still got back 51 books at a 9.8 grade so, kudos to you. I'm not into the new books though I do have some. I'm a Silver age fanboy, but it was fantastic checking out all those books in one sitting. Best to you going forward with your new business.
These are great books that will pay for bigger silver age keys!
You always make me want to submit to CGC hahaha, great vid as always dude.
Thanks!
Congratulations on finally getting that 9.8 Killowag! I’m glad to see you get one after the multiple attempts
I am always amazed to see that people are fond of Scottie Young covers. One trick pony covers. He should try drawing people sometime, his art is for kids. I like to look at the great covers made by Kirby, Romita, Colan, Jae Lee, Jim Lee, Frank Miller McFarlane, David Mack and many others. But maybe I'm just an old guy, remembering better times :)
This is why I keep all my comics raw for now. I know they are a certain grade and I don't have the time or money to constantly be sending them back because someone didn't do their job.
Lololol
Having no key notes and no graders notes is unforgivable. They are supposed to be an expert grading company. Given what people do to get higher grades, you would think adding notes would encourage resubmissions if faults are pressable. Bad for the customer and also bad for the company!!
That’s what CGC does now. Laziness.
It makes me wonder if CGC is simply stupid and doesn't know about the key notes. Like (hypothetically) they don't know that Amazing Fantasy #15 is the first appearance of Peter Parker.
I just had a book come back from cgc a 5.5 with NO GRADER NOTES AT ALL! WTF?
@@eggplantcomics8336 it’s almost like their decision to not add notes on the label was an excuse not to do them at all!
Never knew Skottie did a Daredevil variant, might have to pick that up.
Have you ever submitted anything for grading and custom label to EGS? I'd be very interested in seeing how that process plays out.
Is it possible that the second (failed) group was processed by a different group of graders with an alternative view of what a 9.8 should present as?
Yes, I think that's part of it.
I love your videos I'm pretty new comics. So you help so mutch thank you
Glad you like them!
I do
I haven’t even finished the video yet but I had to mention: as soon as you showed the GL #26 from the Johns run I immediately thought, that is the perfect slab to go with the prime1 GL statue, it’s the same exact pose…..your welcome lol 😉
Hahaha you’re really trying to get me to get that statue!
I've never thought about it before James but seeing 100 slabbed books like this, in tower form, is quite an awesome sight. I have few Batman issues but one is #522, I really like that issue too, and Kelly Jones is definitely the true heir to Bernie Wrightson. Mind-boggling that CGC would send back comics un-slabbed because someone slipped up, yet they'll happily take your money. Overall a great lot of comics but there are still questions for CGC to answer.
On the grading discrepancy… It feels like shift work, quotas and evening supervision. Having experience with Quality Control and subjective calls. To me, I suspect that the evening shifts might be getting their quota of grading even if they reject a comic. So at the end of their shift it looks like they are doing same volume but actually f’ing the 🐕. This makes a strong argument for smaller submissions and/or no pre grading. Your submission might have given a grader an easy Night Shift. My stab at a conspiracy theory.
Love your content and super impressed with your DC knowledge 🤯
Love that Wolverine cover. Might have to snag that one!
You should!
*_I think if you send in 100 and the same person is grading the 100, either he thinks there "shouldn't be 100 9.8's" or, that "he has been told to not grade 100 9.8's." Then again, it could be the same grader later in the evening and he remembered he gave you 41/50 9.8's and "thinks he has to adjust that". After all the clean 'n' press 'n' re-submit business is booming still, so more strict 9.8 grading means more re-submissions._*
*_No notes means he was told to not add notes, or adding notes takes time and the graders have a slab quota._*
*_40% of all books CGC has slabbed are a 9.8._*
*_You still have a "direct line to CGC". If you have time, either send them your video(must be the quickest) or send them notes on these books._*
*_Only You Can Stop Bad CGC Grading!_*
Edit: I added an "r".
Agreed!
Grading is subjective… we will NEVER get consistent grades unless done with computer scanners or other tech. People screw up all the time. They have different feelings, opinions, interests etc. I get people are upset by grading and inconsistency, but it’s NEVER going to change by people grading them.
Thats a super fast turn around. Which tier did you send it under? modern+fast track or just modern?
This is the same ratio I received with 150 books. It was humbling for my own account of my grading abilities. The saving grace was that all the books were keys and the lowest grade, 8.0, still had legs. So you think the lack of graders notes has to do with the possibility that graders notes only come with the slabbing since there is a serial number to connect it to? Great video!
After a certain amount of books I get grading fatigue and have to stop for a day or two. When I go back and look at them again I see things that I easily missed a tiny defect here or there. I'm in the middle of sending in another 25 book 9.8 prescreen and in my third week of putting it together double triple quadruple checking.
I would quadruple check em! It’s time consuming to do so though
I had that same issue of Detective comics as a kid really really really love that cover I've always really love covers that one Central image with a lot of dead space and I think it's because of this one lol
Haha
Actually got the Exiles graphic novel in an Ollie's pack last week in perfect condition. Haven't read it yet though. Though it's not the Carter story. It's issues 52-58.
Thanks for showing some Heman love.
Wow just wow that's a cool load of 9.8s a big amount of them to
Absolutely!
you are doing great with channel keep it up
Damn i was hoping Lemires Scottie Young Moon Knight would show up but it is tempting with the ongoing, even though ive got a handful of Moon Knight cgcs from that run 🤣
My OCD was kicking in watching your video with the slabs stacked that high. I might be tripping but that's a lot of weight on those slabs on the bottom. Suggest just stacking them 15 to 20 high
Great video! I have a large collection of 90's comics in great condition. What is the best place to check current prices for 9.8 graded comics?
I picked up a raw of Batman 21 this weekend because the price was so low which is very surprising to me.
Nice!
Love those kind of videos. I keep rewatching the old MASSIVE UNBOXING ones. I was just wondering: do you have all, or rather most, of your slabbed GL issues also in raw form?
And as a massive Swamp Thing fan I'm very happy for your #90 :)
No - once I get the perfect 9.8 I sell off my duplicate GL slabs
Great grade on the Swamp Thing! unbelievable! As far as CGC goes, I submitted 100+ books to CGC at the Baltimore comic con. Some were to be graded and 2 other batches were to be prescreened for either 9.6 or 9.8. Other i was never at 80% like your submission was, my experience was very similar. one batch was over 65% and the other was about 20%. No notes, etc. I sent CGC an email after receipt of the books and asked about the lack of comments and whether or not any of the rejected books could be improved through pressing and the response was they couldn't provide any advice on pressing. Of course, if notes were included I could determine whether or not pressing would be worth it. Is CGC rejecting books just to meet imposed turn around times? don't get it. i know grading can be subjective, but dang! i find the whole process to be very, very, very annoying. (may have left a "very." lol)
got that kilowog out of a .50c bin 10 years ago. but probably about a 5.0
Looks like the first grader messed up giving notes on the rejections. Cgc site says no notes will be given to pre screen rejects. But it does seem weird that so little hit 9.8 on the other 50. Shows how things can change from grader to grader.
James, perhaps you experienced the infamous “shift change” at CGC.
Hahahahahaha
@@MintHunterComics
it makes sense if one batch got the high grade early in the day and the other batch didn’t later on…
2nd half graded by the night shift. People don't like working nights...the night crew took their anger out on your books.
I recently bought Swamp Thing 90 for $2, probably a 9.4.
GoCollect doesn't mention the 1st appearance either.
NO WAY
I really think you should consider resubmitting the other books. It would make for an amazing video as more than half would get the 9.8!
It would but I just can't risk them not getting the grade again
I had a much larger swing and miss with Pre-Screen 9.8 recently. I sent in 140 books that unfortunately did not get separated between different groups of graders .... like your submission it was all from the same collection and I was well below 50% .... can I ask did you submit using modern or economy?
Modern
Damn James, thats like 10 grand worth of submissions lol
Actually it was under $2k!
@@MintHunterComics Lol nice dude. Their fees are getting ridiculous but the turn around times are still a crap-shoot. Nice books though 👍
Did you press and clean the books before hand - or just a straight up off the shelf submission - I’m curious???
Everything here was unpressed - but none of them needed it
@@MintHunterComics interesting! I’d love to see a video of how you decide to press or not press - honestly I don’t think anyone has done a video like that yet
Are you going to resend the 2nd half
Great vid! Does CGC charge a $9 reject fee for each reject and then $25 grading/encapsulation fee for the ones that actually got a 9.8? Thinking about sending in 25 books, but want to fully understand the charges.
The difference in grading by different graders is too vast. Orders like this are like getting a glimpse behind the curtain.
I ended up messaging you from Facebook. Let me know if you saw that. Thx
I thought Starman #0 was the first Jack Knight - did that Zero Hour come out before that?
I think so
Just curious how much was it to have the 9.8s graded.
This was under $2k
I feel ur pain man. CGC is getting brooootal on grading lately, plus my Batman 1 (snyder run) came back with an eyelash or something smack in the middle of the capsule. Do I have to pay shipping both ways for their F up to get re capsule
BRÜTAL!
Out of curiosity, do you pay the extra $ per comic for expedited grading?
Absolutely. That can get very expensive
Cool slabs!
I thinkyou cant go home until all your books are graded. So somebody just group rejected to make it to the time clock.
Just a different person grading. It’s not being graded by a machine so person to person it will vary. In my opinion the company that can make it a standard test done by a machine will change the game.
Great haul of books. Is it possibly you had two different graders?
Not so sure - lets remember theres a TEAM that grades these books so I just don't get it!
With you being so strict on the books you send is it too much to hope for a 9.9? If not then I’m not sure why they have 9.9 or 10! On a different note not sure if you have done a video on modern ratio books / Unlockable / one per store / store exclusive , worth or not?
9.9s are basically right out. I’ve gotten a few but they’ve been like brand new square bound books. I don’t even think of 9.9!
Wasn’t Ducard also in the Untold Legend Of The Batman books?
may I ask: I don't understand your submission model. With the shipping and cost for encapsulation why submit books that are worth so little even if they hit 9.8? You are required to hit 9.8 and if you get 9.6 the book won't recoup cost of submission.
If I get books for free or under a dolalr - I give em a shot at getting the 9.8 even if they're only a $60 book. I certainly don't submit $60 9.8s if I paid $10 or so for the book though!
@@MintHunterComics Thanks, appreciate the reply.
What does "reject" mean? It's just not a 9.8, or they wouldn't grade and slab the book?
It’s not a 9.8
War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas issue 2 is the first appearance of Sword Master
Great video like usual . What’s your eBay so I can check it out ? Also could you possibly make a video showing how you pack and ship a submission to cgc ?
Would like an updated video or refresh on that as well
Message me on my instagram
And I’ll share my eBay link!
What is the cost for the 25 book submission 🤔🙏🏼
Keep the Masters of the Universe #1 not many 9.8s in the wild.
Nice review.
That was a solid slab for sure
@@MintHunterComics Congratulations! Nice.
Where do you go to get the prices for the grades because I use covrprice
I was using gocollect
They definitely haven’t seemed to be strict on grading recently.
I think they have!
@@MintHunterComics granted, I’m not sending in one hundred at a time lol. You just see so many people (mainly LCS owners) attempting to devalue your graded books even though the grades are 9.8. Several videos I’ve seen, people attempting to trade at cons get sh*t on by owners knit picking a 9.8 as if it’s not an actual 9.8. It’s crazy.
By the way, thanks for your content. Endless hours of fun for my kids and I as we try to navigate our way through starting a comic business.
Definitely some cool 9.8’s. What’s your EBay seller name? I was trying to look for it.
Message me on my Instagram! I'll give it to ya!
@@MintHunterComics oh dang. I don’t have instagram. I’ll keep searching though.
Found you and just saved you as a seller.
@@MintHunterComics just got the Green Lantern 48 9.4. Sweet!
I'm so amused that people put arbitrary prices on modern comics. Why would anyone want a 2nd or higher printing? Good entertainment.
*_If I were you, I'd raise the price on the books you are going to sell, like that Black Swamp Thing one could/should go for more. Not understanding why you'd bother slabbing a book that will be worth $60, but the market is dropping and maybe it was worth more before._*
*_Why are those Scottie Young books worth so little??_*
*_I'd resubmit those other 50 books again, just to see; what if you get 50/50 in a 9.8.....could turn out to be your most viewed video._*
The books that have a $60 I either got for free or under a dollar. It’s the only reason I’d ever risk sending those ones in!
There's gotta be a group of graders in the modern teir that just don't give 9.8s unless it's perfect. I'm sure of it
I believe so
I have very little knowledge of swamp thing but it just seems all price guide aps or every time I look into that swamp thing #90 I don't see any mention of it having any key significance..I even have a copy of #90 probably a 8.5 or9.0 but every where I look it shows basically cover price value. Excuse my ignorance on this but need someone to school me on that swamp thing book
That's actually a pretty darn nig key lol. Tefe Holland - she eventually got here own Vertigo run for years
I had same book couple years apart one said the first appearance and the other didn't
Are you going to resend the ones who didn't get it? Would be real interesting.
Financially it just doesn't make sense to take another hit on em
@@MintHunterComics It would make a great video, just to see how many would get the 9.8; especially if you send them in “as is”. But like you said, it would be quite pricey. Maybe viewers could help pitch in?
How do you ask them to change the notes?
I place a sticky note on the comic bag
All these stories just make me wary of submitting my few comics, especially with the extra costs associated with sending from the UK.
@minthuntercomics is this legit? Seems like a scam.
Do you sell to international buyers, shipping to Ireland?
Through ebay I do!
Slabbed prices are WILD lol what a scam
Do you own a comic shop and if so where at?
Im still convinced they have random graders just tossing darts.
Grading is subjective. two different graders probably. one was much harder to get a 9.8 out of. as far as the grader notes, pretty much every book is a key if you want to put every first appearance, every single event that happens in a book. honestly i think it's silly to put a first appearance unless it's a major character. even major character is subjective but many of the characters you mentioned I've never even heard of. I'm not a fan of "professionally" graded books anyway though. Especially current era books.
Submitting to CGC is like rolling dice on the Quality Control
Are you going to resubmit the books that didn’t make it?
Probs not
I bet if you send the 49 that didn't get a 9.8 back to get graded 25 will come back 9.8
Will these books be on sale at the eBay page?
They are live!
So with CGC’s rejection fee of $8 per book times 49 you were charged $392 😲😲😲
CGC been messing up labels all around I got serval books come back miss label on which cover it is and no key info. I think they do it to mess with the market
Is there a particular person or department you got to speak too to get key information added to labels. They are horrible on new books
I don't think it makes sense to add a notation to each label for every book since almost every comic is the first appearance of a character. That doesn't mean that because you have a character appearing in the book for a first time that its a "key" issue or has any significance. I personally like that they don't add the notations unless there is a first appearance of actual significance or some other significant event. Great collection by the way.
I disagree but that's fine!
This has got to be the biggest CGC unboxing I've ever seen. I follow you on Instagram, so I'll have to check out a few of your listings. You have become a full time UA-camr. Keep that unemployment coming while you look for another job. You may just pull off this flipping and UA-cam game though.
Strange submission. I’ve sent as many as 250 I still consistently go 90-95% on my prescreens.
Hello, I’m so surprised that your prescreens can get so high percentage. I only get around 50%. May I ask how did you get this? Do you have some tips? Thank you so much.
They hit that quota lol
Lolololol
What's going on with CGC? Been seeing a ton of negative stories recently, more so than usual, shared by various people in the community.
It's honestly nothing new hahaha
Check out "Conversations with Tom (Bilyeu)" episode "Get Uncomfortable" with author Michael Easter minute 21 ish...study talking about people trained to find problems...in a nutshell, they will find a problem whether there is one or not. So I would suggest on your next haul, send 50 9.8s and 50 9.4 to 9.6s. The results will be in the stack of 50 9.8s as a ratio...if it's higher then keep doing that.
I am happy with anything over 9.0. Having a clean book get a 8.5 😖😖😖
Surprised at the amount of Marvel books. More surprised about SW 90. It certainly would be a big "Hmmmm" 🤨😒moment if you did re-submit those 50 and a percentage came back 9.8s
I know right? And yeah it’s mostly marvel because I just bought a collection and this is all from that
I would hate to see your credit card bills every month lol. How is the website coming along?
I’m just selling on eBay right now. Sadly all my sales keep getting plugged back into new submissions to cgc lololol
Resubmit! I've done that every time and the majority of them will get the 9.8
I think the second batch just got stuck with someone who was just having a bad day and took it out on the books simple as that
It’s possible… but there’s a whole team that grades! Usually three people. So how can that happen?
Iam sorry about the grade
As good or better than stock🤑
Yeppers!
I absolutely love F.F. 25!! One of Skottie Young’s best covers
Yo is cgc the right place to send your books?
Depends of who you ask! return time? yep. Quality control? nope
Oh wow thanks for the tips sorry I didn't get back to you
But I mean with those answers I won't have to send my books in myself thank you for that
Call CGC they will regrade those no charge it happened to me
can u show a good book
NEW MINTHUNTER VIDEO 🎉😍😁🥳
Thanks for your support!
different graders
bingo... and one of them is a slacker.
