The farther we get away from the 90's the more they will go up. I have tons of 80's & 90's comics that are going for a good price now, but I would much rather keep them for nostalgia purposes than sell them.

I remember around 2000, going into the Dollar Tree, there were sealed bags of 90’s books for just !$1.00. I absolutely loaded-up on these. I bought nearly every pack.

I love going on eBay and getting those comics from the Wizard Top 10 of the mid 99s. Shi, Gen 13, Vengeance of Vampirella, X-Files, Dawn, etc. First issue of Lady Death's first miniseries was 100 dollars in my comic book store back in the day, locked behind the glass. I bought it last year in near perfect condition for six bucks. The bubble burst sucked for investors but for broke kids from the 90s like me, it was great. I can get all those issues I never thought I'd be able to own for dirt cheap.

The main issue with 90s books is the print runs were so massive that finding high grades is not difficult. Also new Wednesday comics are becoming so expensive that even a key back issue from the 90s is cheaper than a 1:10 variant you'd see at your local comic shop on a weekly basis.

I started collecting 90s comics when I was 8 yrs old in 1993. That era brings nostalgia for me and wonderful memories growing up as a kid and teenager, specially when going into comic shops. People need to stop dumping on 90s comics ( as i know more than enough UA-camrs say its trash.) However, there are some gems for knearly every major title that has some great impacts on comics and media( games, cartoons and movies!). Now, here's a few reccommends I'd like to shout out for you new collectors or fellow fans alike.
🌟 Marvel vs DC- seriously, the only time we got an active series where fans voted for the winner and even got merged versions such as Dark Claw ( Wolverine and Batman) and later ACCESS with both companies teaming up again!
🌟 Spiderman- Maximum Carnage, Venoms series, Scarlet Spider( probably the only redeeming thing from the clone saga) Planet of the Symbiotes( these are ridiculously expensive)the return of Normon Osborne, Spider Carnage, She venom and so much more! There's 💎 in these books!
🌟 Xmen- Wolverine getting his Adamantium getting pulled out, Jim Lee's legendary( though limited) 'X-Men' run, Age of Apocolyspe, Joe Mads art era! So many great books to look out for!
🌟Image- Aside from Spawn, look out for Tony Daniels The Tenth, some hot art by J Scott Campbell on Gen 13( which are getting hot🔥 thanks to his current marvel & DC covers) and are sellable classics, DarkChylde, Fathom, Witchblade and The Darkness ( the early 1st 20 issues) had fantastic art by Mark Silvestri and Michael Turner thats still sought put by collectors.
🌟 Cliffhanger- Joe Mads Battlechasers, Robert Hermos Crimson and J. Scott Campbells Danger Girl. Fantastic artwork which are slowly getting traction because they represent their early works!( Joe mad is now doing game art, Hermos on Spiderman, while Scott's doing sexy Marvel cover art!)
🌟 Batman- KnightFall, Sword of Azrael, and ANYTHING Harley Quinn including her 1st comic appearance in TAS and with the spin off comic with Alex Ross' cover.
🌟DarkHorse- many titles from the 20th Century Fox license like Aliens vs Predator, Star Wars with Boba Fett, Dark Empire, etc. Were 90s books. Not trash but gems!

Great video! Now please stop talking about this ;-) Totally agree that 90s books have a lot to offer readers and collectors. For me, in particular, I immediately think of Valiant. When they came out, I was about 21 and having read Marvel & DC all my life, I was ready to dismiss Valiant's characters just because they were different from the old favorites. I ended up loving them! The stories (I remember LOLing a bunch reading Archer & Armstrong, X-O Manowar, Rai, Magnus, Bloodshot), the art, the covers (their vibrancy stood out)...Loved them all. And then I guess Jim Shooter got elbowed out and the company was sold (to Acclaim?) Then I remember thinking they were putting out too many books and the quality nose-dived. I'm currently working on getting back (lost the originals in that damn fire) the first two or three years of Valiant's stuff. Also, just to add one more thing, I think we see this regularly in comic book collecting. When a generation gets into their 30s and 40s, they get that "disposable" income and nostalgia for the younger years, they start collecting those books from their youth. That's why I'm keeping all that NEW 52 crap locked up safe and sound. When I'm about 75, I'm gonna clean up on those!

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  4 роки тому

Thank you for being positive about 90s comics. I try and do a search on them (because I'd love a channel that focused on 90s comics and story arcs), and all I get are negative videos about how they are terrible and worthless. I'm sorry, but I'm sitting here loving to read Sandman, X-Factor Peter David run, The Maxx, etc. from that era. And in the late 90s, there were some great manga comics like Blade of the Immortal, Sailor Moon, etc. That's where some of the comics have really gone up in value. Something like Maxx or Sailor Moon #35, or the early issues of Sandman have really upped in price. I think a lot of collectors are getting sick of the modern day story arcs and are looking back at the stuff they skipped in the 90s, and finding a lot of gold they didn't know was there.

I find it kinda ironic on how people trash the 90s yet it's things from the 90s that are coming back in Full Circle and selling books today. Gwenpool is a fun example of 90s + Gwen craze. DC's Dark Nights Metal is probably the most 90s thing possible with Greg Capullo providing the artwork. Not to mention Absolute Carnage, Azrael Batman returning to Detective comics, and even Superman becoming Doomsday! Lets not forget DC's Dark Mulitverse which is touching upon 'what if' stories such as The Death of Superman and Knightfall!

One good thing about some of the 90's comics is they were good reads. Maybe not super valuable, since even the low print books from back then tend to have higher prints runs than modern comics. If any of us are alive in 50 years, I suspect we'll see a lot of modern comics worth more than those books. But....You can get good, solid runs for pennies on the dollar. The death and rebirth of Superman was an awesome read! I bought it for the value....Stayed for the story. Knightfall was good. You can get full runs of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight and Batman: Shadow of the Bat for almost nothing. Good reading!

The 90s books also had such high print runs. Jim Lees reboot of the X-Men for instance. I just bought a box of deadstock X-Men number one the storm and beast cover from an estate sale. The box was almost completely sealed I had to cut the rest of the tape to open it and inside are roughly 40 to 60 untouched mint copies of Jim Lee’s X-Men number one the beast and storm cover. I bought the whole box for $20. Why I bought it, I don’t know. I guess I’ll try to offload some of them on eBay if I can lol.

Another catalyst that cannot be ignored is the graded slabbed book market. Books that may otherwise be relatively cheap and not worth much on it's own but if in high grade and slabbed boosts its value. Example look at the 90's X-Men #1 issues. It sold millions but 9.8s of that are going for $100+

Some books are rare and valuable because of media interests, for example deadpool, but due to the massive print runs it’s going to be a while before people value 90s books. The 90's were my favorite era. The Defalco/Ryan run on FF was fantastic. Anything PAD wrote was gold (Hulk, Spider-man 2099, Supergirl). Uncanny and adjectiveless X-men were great. Infinity Gauntlet. Operation Galactic Storm. Thunderbolts spawned in the 90's. I even loved a lot of the books that weren't overly popular like Sleepwalker, Darkhawk, Wonderman, Guy Gardner, New Warriors, Fantastic Force, etc. Loved Hal Jordan going crazy and Kyle Rayner taking over the mantle of GL.

The 90’s was an era that I skipped - I stopped collecting at that time. So I’m not too familiar with the era.
That said, there are some good independent books that I’ve picked up from the late 80’s/90’s - Bone and Sandman come to mind.
I think that nostalgia plays a factor in collecting - I never have enjoyed hyper-violent books - which means a lot of the 90’s aren’t interesting to me.

Scott from Nerdsyncs was way off in his example. You cannot show books that have 2 to 3 days left on their listings that are BID ONLY and say you can "buy them" for that price. For example, I've seen ASM 129s sit at $100 bucks until 12 hours remaining and shoot up and get a final sale bid at over $800. Bottom line, those books didn't sell for just a few cents or a few bucks.
He was misrepresenting the value of those books. Yes, Lethal Protector has increased in value since he made that video some what, 7 years ago, directly due to movie hype, but still, his point was null because his price data was invalid and non measurable.

You do know what happened to the comic book industry, and in particular collecting, during the 90s? Slabbing has vastly overinflated the market along with modern speculators who think every comic is a key. There's a print run glut of issues from the 90s and speculators hoarded multiple copies of X-force, X-Men, Spawn etc. Now folk get these slabbed and you see them at vastly over inflated prices. High grade Marvel/DC copies from the 90s are plentiful. Independent titles maybe a bit less so.

If you want obscure 90s Comics that still are worth a lot, look up Sonic the Hedgehog comics. If you go for key issues like #1, Hypersonic and Hyper knuckles, Mecha Sonic vs. Mecha knuckles, and other specials like those, they are slowly getting expensive so get them while you can while they are they are fairly cheap!

What about Valiant in the 90s before they were acquired/rebranded? I'm thinking Rai, X-O, Turok for examples.

90's are not worthless!! They are overprinted but they have the greatest raddest art. Stop thinking about making money with comics they are meant to be enjoyed and not slabbed. The 90's is when they stopped using the redundant 70's style that was getting really boring thanks to Mcfarlane. And Liefeld is a great comic artist too, most haters couldnt even draw a panel

Strong disagree about 90s comics not being good. Overall the 90s change the game from Image to series like Witch Blade and Spawn... True that collecting is getting harder but the 90s comics will grow in price becuase there were more adult comics as well as a lot more characters with their own books. The prices are bound to jump just for collecting.

With respect, I don’t agree. Yes these were some good comics in the 90’s but the real value is mid and low grade Marvel Silver and Bronze Age comics. I’m a collector on a budget and I’ve put together a BEAUTIFUL collection by staying within my budget and buying when the opportunities presented themselves.

Some of the earlier Valiant books were actually low print run reboots of classic gold key and other publisher's books, so they maintained some value. Turok, Bloodshot and especially Deathmate really killed off that publisher.

    # of prints matters, quality etc. But Im a buyer and so let me tell you what a buyer/collector wants.
    QAULITY.
Todd McFarlane, Lee Einfeld, Rob Lee, Wilce Portico etc. Buy sh4t you like, buy stuff which is cool. Why does that matter? Because if you want it, someone else likely will too. And Demand = Pricing.
