I'm firmly convinced biologists are the most enthusiastic scientists. Like, I've nerded out with people from various fields, but a biologist's ability to just see a cool plant or critter and completely sidetrack everyone around them is unparalleled. Me and my lab partner in the physics department were walking back to the academic building with a friend from the bio department, and we just found ourselves a part of a half hour side quest to set up a jumping spider in a terrarium, and it was the most fun we had all week. If only we all had the supreme childlike joy of a biologist.

I really enjoy your perspective. I was a bit hurt when demeaned by a chemist and physicist that biology is a soft science. Perhaps so, but you need at least a basic understanding of both of their fields for biology, and having a passion for Biology doesn’t mean you’re just settling because you’re too stupid for harder sciences. It means we’re passionate about life! And no matter how many downers get annoyed, I will never lose my enthusiasm for the natural world!

    • @bow-tiedengineer4453
      @bow-tiedengineer4453 11 місяців тому +5

@@katelynnehansen8115 It's a less math-y science, but Bio is still very much a hard science. Just because life is messy and doesn't always follow nice mathematical formulas doesn't mean you can't study it rigorously, and anyone who doesn't understand that needs to think about their definition of hard science. It's one thing to call something like political science a soft science, because you can't have controls or isolate variables, but Bio absolutely can, and that's what makes something a hard science, that you can isolate variables, repeat experiments in a controlled manner, and duplicate someone else's work by copying their methodology.

I am no biologist. Becoming a biologist was a desire since my earliest memory. The more I learned I felt tragedy, hilarity, and frankly weirdness. Forrest does an amazing job on his videos and personifies what you say exactly. Even though my work is far from biology, I still dabble. After years of fishing, pets, and time in the wild... It was always fresh. When I got my microscope, the world changed. It wasn't uncommon for me to get super excited about each puddle of water or speck wood. The idea of every single bug I saw was a world I wanted to explore. . . Thankfully, I can restrain a bit and not flood my social circle that much.

It is actually admirable that you're doing this again despite it not preforming well last time. It shows that you're not just in this for monetary gain but because you actually have a deep passion and enjoyment for what you do. Which is quite evident from your behaviour in these videos as well. I find that I am hard pressed to find youtubers that get excited over seemingly trivial (to a layperson that is) things as you do. It makes watching your videos so much more enjoyable and I often find myself getting excited along with you.

One time, when I was on the road from Kansas to Colorado, a deep fog rolled in on the plains. It was so thick we could barely drive, and at times we had to pull over for the fog to lift a little. As I was driving, I saw something move way off in the fog. Something big and way up high. I asked my brother if he saw it. He didn’t. Suddenly I saw something again, further ahead. This time he saw it. We would see glimpses of something huge moving in the fog. It was terrifying. What strange cryptid existed in these fields? What was following us, keeping just out of view? Anyway, the fog lifted and we were in a giant field of huge windmills. 😂😂😂

I did some trail work for 5 weeks in the white tank mountains outside Phoenix Arizona and every weekend we’d rec around the state, one weekend in Sedona we camped next to this steep hill and in the middle of the night we all awoke to a thundering noise getting closer like a stampede, this tremendous gust of wind “avalanched” down the hill, hit our camp sending all these tarps flying around for a good 30 seconds, then rolled away as of it was one giant gust, we could hear it stamped away. It was quite amazing, also, some of the mountains around there have a glow on some rocks. Very cool sights. I’m from Oregon northwest parts, but so love the desserts.

Damnit Forrest! I'm not sure if it's a personality thing or a sense of humor thing or what exactly but you are probably the best at just making me laugh out of nowhere. Checking out all the flowers by the murder cabin and then just the hard left at "and these are called ants" broke me for a solid minute and I appreciate it greatly. That and the Doom inspired tabs to log the days travel are absolutely fantastic. I love these travel videos, and really all of your content, so damn much and I learn something new with every video. My great grandmother, as told by my grandmother, always said "If you go a day without learning something then what was the point?" and each upload gives me something new to think about. I even drag people into it like the thing about most ants you see being female and that whole thing from a recent video because I find these things so fascinating now at 31 that I regret not caring about more in school.
I'm sure comments talk about this all the time, and I've probably left a few with the same sentiment, but your passion and energy for what you do is just infectious in the best way possible and I absolutely love every second of it.
Also impromptu bubble jam sesh. Just that. It was great.
Also also, this is where I was when I found out I'm actually older than Forrest. By all of 2 months, and I figured we were relatively close in age, but there you go. Always learning new things from Forrest.

I lived in AZ for a few years. Funny story about that church in Sedona. We were sightseeing with my parents. I took my kids into the rocks above the church (1 of them is now a professional climber) and the docent started screaming for us to get down. They have no jurisdiction up there but we came down. He starts yelling at me for putting my kids in danger and a women chimes in, "That was child abuse!" My son, 12 at the time says, "Dad, child abuse is fun!"
My parents stood off to the side laughing at me. Good times.

Love the windmill comment. They were talking about putting a turbine near my old hometown in NJ. The electric company was telling everyone they were using too much and they would have to put the big metal towers in to run the lines and the town complained they were huge and ugly. Then they said they could put in a turbine to help and their complaint was “it’s taller than the towns water tower.” So instead of using less energy they wanted to complain about any solution…

Coloradoan here! I'm glad you enjoyed traveling through our beautiful state! And yes, the 'sky fingers' and the like are pretty common, especially along the Front Range. The mountains muck with the weather in all sorts of interesting and mildly infuriating ways. It tends to rain in torrential cloudbursts in summer--we can get hit by everything short of hail with mere minutes of notice, which can then evaporate as quickly as it came after as little as half an hour. As I like to say, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and see what happens."

I was a homeless train hopper and hopped trains for years, I can't begin to express just how gorgeous hopping freight trains through Colorado is. The freight trains go THROUGH the top of the Rocky's, through the Moffitt tunnel, and along the Colorado river, the train will be way up on a cliff edge on the mountain with the river below you and there will be idyllic snow covered mountain towns below at dusk so the twilight in the sky and the warm glow of the towns light on the river is simply amazing. Like at 52:53 but more drastic

As a Canadian I have probably spent more time on U.S. highways seeing American sights most Americans have never seen, including some of the scenery you showed. Every American should be able to take a long road trip across your amazing nation.

This is exactly what I need to get me through a bad week. I love your road-trip vlogs. I’m usually not a blog person, but you fill yours with so much personality, interesting commentary, funny jokes, and spectacular views. I loved the last one, and I loved this one even more.
You have a lot of the same interests as me! I feel like I got every reference in this video, which was so fucking cool.

You were on stage with Evan and Katelyn! I love them. Lived in Tucson, AZ for a few months and the desert is just jammed with plants and animals, couldn't take the heat but it's very beautiful. Lived in Durango for a few months, also beautiful but incredibly expensive. Because it's in a small valley in the middle of the mountains and all the flat land is already built on, even getting an apartment takes months.

Amber and Forrest, Thanks for sharing your road trip. I'm also house-bound so this for me is vicarious travelling. I particularly liked saving the turtles and the weird Adventure Time house of horrors in Santa Fe. I watched AdvTime when it popped up on Mexican TV. This was fun All the Best Jim Oaxaca Mexico.

Beautiful video. All of the Footage was beautiful and as a coloradian (unfortunately no longer living in Colorado) I can't agree more that footage doesn't do the scenery justice. Seeing the footage and your fondness over the natural land scape made me break down crying, take it as a good thing it means you captured Colorado's beauty to the best of your ability.
Again beautiful video and it was fun to see states I haven't traveled through in a long time (or ever). I finally passed through Oklahoma on our most recent road trip, which was to visit my grandparents and other family in Colorado.
