We had the pleasure to spend some time on board of De Gallant when it stopped over in Bristol. This wonderful sailing ship delivers cargo under sail all around the world and the crew were kind enough to invite us on board.
This wonderful song has become very special to us as a fond farewell to friends and fans at shows and live streams, marking the beautiful uniqueness of every group we get to sing it with and for.

A good buddy of mine recently passed away at only 25 years old. He was a player in our DnD group as well as an occasional DM. I was brought to tears by the line that "we may or might never all meet here again" which reminded me that I had no idea that the last DnD session we played was the last one we ever would with him. Value your friends. You never know how much longer you have them. Rest in peace Dalton, aka Ronny Stools the Noble

Lyrics for anyone who wants them
Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Come lift up your voices all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the dear lass that I love so well
For her style and her beauty, sure none can excel
There's a smile on her countenance as she sits on my knee
There's no man in this wide world as happy as me
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Our ship lies at anchor, she's ready to dock
I wish her safe landing, without any shock
If ever I should meet you by land or by sea
I will always remember your kindness to me
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass

I imagine a group of revered pirates spending their last night in town at local tavern before a long voyage. Some are sitting by the fire, some are passed out at the tables, some are still getting ale at the bar. The bartender makes the last call for alcohol and everyone gets a mug of ale to send off the night. The First Mate sits by the fire and grabs a guitar, singing solemnly until the whole bar joins in and erupts in song. 0:15

Come September, it'll be eight years since I lost one of my best girl friends, who was an Age of Sail history nut-- we had our own in-joke pirate crew, where she was the captain. At the funeral, we posthumously promoted her to admiral, leaving our other girl friend as captain and myself as first mate/navigator. This song and George's Glass by Skinny Lister are the two songs I remember her most by-- and was thrilled when the Johns and the Skinnys toured together. Every year I raise a glass to our old captain, knowing we'll meet again, even if it's only our hearts that know it.

@@friedlemons5201 lol surprisingly this happens. I have a small scale youtube channel (about 23ksubscribers) and I sent my subscribers a message out of curiosity to find out what made them dislike a video....mine or any other. I legit had several people say that they accidentally clicked the wrong thumb and didn't realize they could CHANGE it after that. lol

This certainly sounds better than the half-drunk and somewhat raucous version we've sung at the Renaissance Faire in past years.
I first heard this song in 1994 at the first Renaissance Faire we went to outside of Nashville in Truine at Castle Gwyn. This was before a certain faction decided that they'd keep the Faire stuck in the Elizabethan era for the next 15 yrs. Anyways, we were having a ball in the 12th Century with all of the knights, ladies, peasants, fae folk, crafts folks, fortune tellers, and Axel the Sot (and no, the kids couldn't see his show because it was pretty raunchy).
There were things for the visitors to participate in - dancing, human chess match, races, etc., and archery with 2 guys in well-padded suits who were acting as targets. These guys were yelling insults at the erstwhile archers to entertain observers. My oldest, age 12 at the time, took her turn, and one of the targets hooted that she would shoot like a girl and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.
What he didn't know was that I let my kids practice with the bow I'd had as a child, because archery teaches focus, coordination, and kept them busy so they weren't fighting.
The king and his retinue were passing by just as Keoma knocked the arrow, took a breath, and let fly. Said arrow nailed the target in the cod piece, and after one somewhat shocked moment, the crowd roared with laughter. The target and his comrade fell over laughing and the king yelled, "I want that girl for my royal archers!"
Keoma put her hands on her hips and called out to the guy she nailed. "Yeah I shoot like a girl - we know how to hit where it really hurts!"
I still laugh when I think about that.

Me and a whole lot of people and sailors lost their boats in Ian. I lost my 40 ft Irwin sailboat/Home and everything in it during Hurricane Ian a few days ago. I had full coverage insurance on it up until about 2 months ago when I had to let it lapse to buy a new car to get back and forth to work. I was planning on getting my insurance reinstated here in the next month, but things don't do as planned. I was one of the many that lost everything. My cat and I barely made it off the boat during the eye of the storm in Fort Myers.
