Making Lots of Bosses for my Indie Game
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 чер 2024
- In this episode I create a bunch of bosses for my physics based boxing game while trying to stay on track with the game over the winter season.
This is a devlog in my Punch A Bunch series, a game I am developing by myself in Unreal Engine 4.

You should make it so you get hats or gloves after every boss you beat and the gloves give you different attacks
Or boxing trousers and hats give you more defence and introduce a coin system to continue this game
And shop
Add cosmetics it would make the game look better
Already did man. =)
I hope youll be able to put this game on consoles eventually, looks fluid, easy to pick up, with deep mechanics to master, and the most important... really fun!
yeah
Agreed. I would love this on PlayStation.
if the controls could work on a portable console like the switch that would be awesome.
Also the stream deck might be an easy console to put this game on
Yeah he should be able to its already made for a Console Controller so that shouldn't be too hard. I'm a Game Dev but not for this Game so i can't really Say what will happen.
Yeah but what if Xbox trys to buy out him? Then we won't have Bunch A' Bunch PS5
WOW 2 YEARS ALREADY?! Its truly been a journey and I am glad to have stuck with the game. Keep up the great work man!
that was my reaction. so crazy right?
@@walkcycle5436 Yeah!
Meanwhile me: stuck in 2 months, and start the brand new project🤡
The bosses look great, I love how unique you've made each of their looks and abilities. For the Viking boss, I feel like he should make more noise before he charges at you, like a raging bull kinda snorting and snarling to telegraph the move to the player. Keep it up Ponty!
Game is looking great. One thing I think would add SO MUCH to the polish and feel of the game is to have unique arenas for each circuit. That would add so much to the feeling of progression imo
Yeeeaah!!! This.
Good
Yeah, maybe different lighting in each too.
Like in wii punchout
It’s great to see you working really hard to complete something. It’s always been interesting for me to see indie devs working harder to make games than some AAA companies.
yea plus when its just you making all the decison its better, in tripple a they have to go thru a chain of people to approve something, and indie devs can focus more on the game while tripple a focuses more on micro transactions it seems.
4:55 I actually laughed when he did the charge-- its so good! My only suggestion is that when he hits the band on the edge of the ring, he should bounce back and forth , rolling around the ring, until the player knocks him out of it
Make an irish guy that makes the floor more slippery by spilling beer all over the ring
This one is edited nicely like the original devlogs! I like it!
Me too :) Thanks for noticing
@@Pontypants but I liked editing of previous ones. Also where is the google algorithm juice.
this just showed up in my recommended, and I'm super impressed that you managed to get all this done in 2 years!
I'm no expert on 3D modelling, but a trick I've seen some modelers use to avoid clothes clipping into the skin, is to erase some of the skin underneath the clothing.
I don't know if that'll work based on the physics and whatnot, again, I don't know how 3D modelling works, I've never touched blender in my life, but that's something I see people do for like vrchat models and stuff.
Blender has the Mask Modifier, specifically for doing that kinda thing in a nondestructive way.
For the monk, to help with the intersections in the short term, you could texture the body the same as the cloth so when it interscts, it is less noticible
It looks really good. The motions are so fluid.
Man, you're awesome! Just please, don't quit UA-cam after releasing the game. Praying for you! 🙏
Love the Eastward OST you put in! And well done on the work done so far!
Fantastic episode been watching since episode 1 and loved to follow the journey both in and out of the game. Congrats on creating a finish line! Looking forward to the release
Thank you! :)
Definitely going to be an emotional one seeing this journey end, but look how far you've come! Seriously go back to devlog 1 and look at this one! Its amazing!
Your new workflow is interesting too, I've tried it before and I just can't work to "do this in X weeks" not sure why
I really liked the "production quality" (If thats what it's called) of this devlog. The B-roll and stuff in the beginning was super cool. I can't wait to see what's next!
I’m glad to see how determined you are to this game, and how much you have changed your life and have changed mine, good job Ponty, I hope you’re feeling good forever 👍
PS: a thought for your game should maybe be if you hold back the joystick on the rope it will launch them forward a bit and you could potentially make a very big finisher using this, maybe have some jump from the poles on the corners and jump onto the character
This game is SOOO good. Can’t wait for it to be done! You are doing so well, keep it up!
You could make the body mesh faces invisible where the cloth intersects
Love the devlog :)
If only the Viking boss pulled out an axe and just chucked it at you
damn the bosses look really cool ngl
Haven't watched any of these devlogs for many many months now, so I'm watching this one remembering the struggles in the beginning of the series.
You're actually doing it mate. Very impressive! Looking forward to following the rest of the series now.
YES! A new video! Thank You!!!!!!! I love the devlogs!!!
OMG :D I love the munk.
Intersecting meshes are a big pain. I suggest trying to remove the inner mesh where you can't see it because of the clothing.
Fur looks great ;) Awesome job.
Hi, i think for the monk clothes clipping problem, you should just make the "stomach sphere object segment thing" underneath the clothes invisible.
or shrink it too
Awesome series. Loved watching your start to now. Crazy it’s been two years already, but look at how far you’ve come!
It's been about a year since I first got to know this channel and you are still developing that game of yours after all these problems. I truly appreciate you man!
so proud ~ keep going, almost there! xoxox
Man you are a warrior, Ponty. You had to bring your poor dog to the vet, you became homeless, and yet you never gave up. You still bring amazing videos after all that. Idk about the other people but this deserves a sub from me.
It's really been a journey since day 1. This is what motivated me to finally finish my game. Thank you dearly.
love the pacing of this devlog. The bosses look really fun to fight too!!
Here are my thoughts:
1. You may make Cookie a bit bigger in terms of the size. That will give another hint to the player that cookie is stronger than Toby
2. I think the viking would look cooler if that "clothing-fur" thing was longer from the back
I really like your game and the progress you've made(have been following you since the very beginning). Keep it up and good luck with the release :)
Ah yes clothing-fur, as if it wasn't enogh to have them separately.
But seriously those are prety tricky subjects, I'm impressed he went out of his way to create such a level of details
Yes but if it was longer like a cape it could take a lot of effort to get the physics right. And thus increasing his scope again.
Sumo stun (which stuns you no matter where you are on the plane) is a bad idea.
Having played 257 games from the past Brackeys jam and many more games on top of that,
one thing I noticed is that typically you want the player to always have control of the situation.
Receiving damage because of your low skill as a player - is challenging and engaging.
Receiving damage when you had no/little control - is unfair and feels unpleasant.
The other way to put it:
in a typical arcade game, it should always be possible to complete the game with zero hits.
Like "Glass Soul" in Hollow Knight - yes, it's super difficult, but some crazy people do it.
Game should make it so that outcome is 98-100% skill dependent.
On another note, it would be interesting to see what you are doing for this game marketing-wise.
I don't see any marketing to-dos, but marketing is super important.
I agree. This game does look fun but my favorite aspects of these types of games is whenever I'm 1 hit away from death and I'm playing outta my mind in hopes of clutching out a win. The boss already seems hard and having a move where a hit is guaranteed would ruin so much fun, of course that's what it looks like from the small glimpse we've been shown for all i know this isn't the case and it could easily be avoided. I think giving the player a way to skillfully dodge the stomp move would actually be awesome and add so much fun like maybe if you hit him right as he's about to stomp you could stop the stomp while stunning him and giving you time to hit him. Something like that would reward skillful players while promoting agresive style playing which in my opinion was the game philosophy that punch out used that made me love it. In how the game rewarded you for playing agresive by giving you a thin line to tightrope. If you fell off you would be punished but if you managed to keep that high level of aggressive play while maintaining that patience and waiting for the moment to be aggressive then you would be able to beat the bosses so fast which is what made punch out and super punch out so much fun.
That was an incredible update. Great job on the bosses. Loved it.
These characters are looking amazing. I love the way the game is just falling together now and looking like a real game. As always, love the content!!
I've been watching your progress for the past 2 years and it is truly inspiring.
One thing I love about your game is that it looks polished (compared to other indie games) and all systems and physics work so well.
Can't wait to play the finished game :D
These are some well-made Bosses Mate!
keep up the good work sir, and love the fact that you are focusing on getting this done before falling into the trap of future planning!
Keep it up day by day. Awsome game, awesome DevLog!
Big congrats on how far you've come. Ive been watching since the first punchabunch devlog and it's such great content
Really great devlog man. You've seriously been cranking out these bosses and making a ton of progress. Honestly this seems like the most progress made out of your other devlogs! I'm really glad to hear you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel too. I'm hoping to get to that point myself very soon with my game. Keep up the great work dude!
So exited to play this looks awesome!
You’re dedication is amazing!!
Awesome devlog! It's amazing how you are able to get so much work done in a couple of weeks.
I love how this is coming along.
absolutely love watching your devlogs❤️❤️
Thank you for your gamedev videos. You don't have an idea (or probably you do) how helpful and inspiring these are. I can't wait for you to complete the game and release it. Also thanks for introducing me to tools like Milanote. I hope you'll continue with YT after the release and look forward to your new adventures.
It looks so good man! Keep going you're almost there!
This looks really fun, I am looking forward to playing this when you realease it!
Fantastic set of bosses! I can really see how varied they are, I can't wait to see more about the other bosses.
Don't worry too much about missing your planned deadlines. I rarely see development plans go to schedule. Just keep at it and you'll find yourself at the release faster than you would if you worry.
Man I sincerely hope you keep doing game devs and devlogs. With everything you know now, you’re next project just seems like it’d be amazing given how awesome PaB is already!
Looks great, man!
The fur is great, congrats.
Keep at it, you got this!
I know motivation is a fickle thing, and seeing you continuing to work on your dream is awesome.
Go go go!
Was waiting for this since the last video, cool!
Getting to the end. It's crazy to think about, but I'm excited to see it launch!! Good work as always.
Man,it looks amazing bro!
Great to see the progress 🥊 🙌 💕
Oh i missed devlogs sooooo much! Can't wait to play. I loved the bosses btw. Keep going
Keep it up Ponty, it's coming along nicely!
Can’t wait for this dude! Keep up the good work
Love it man! Can’t wait to play it!

Soo close to 100k well done!! Love theese videos!!
these bosses look insane! keep up the good work!
I haven't watched one of these devlogs in months, and I must say, this game looks like FIRE!
Very impressed mate. everything is really good. fantastic ideas with the boss fights.
the game is going great!!!awesome work!!
This is looking super great for your first full game!
this looks so polished, well done!
Wow! Looking awesome!
Cool stuff dude! Keep up the great work!
Been a part of the series since the dev log 3 or 4 I think I am really glad to see it's completion.... Good work man keep it up
Man this looks awesome, can’t wait for you to get to 1M subs soon!
This is getting so polished!
Good luck on finishing!
Love the controlls... They are so unique and fun🔥🔥
YEEEESSS!!! SO glad you were able to make another video, have not seen it yet... bet it will be as good as always. will be back for a review.
Så jäkla bra! Woohoo go Ponty, looking forwards to the game!
Having watched a couple of sumo tournaments and stuff, I can say that the sumo boss’s skill is rather accurate. Using those wide open arm movements is a very good way to characterized the openhanded thrusts or slaps you’ll see in the sport. Really cool stuff!
can we respect our swedish fellow,to actually stay motivated, work super hard, and even put the hard work to making videos
what a legend..
These devlogs are incredible, i like how you show much more things that happen. Usually people just show the code and show how it looks. (I honestly do the same though lol) But you have inspired me a lot
I didn't hear about this since the first devlog, great to be back
I laughed so much at the sumo boss, great work! Your game looks amazing :)
Great video! Good luck on the final stretch
I love your devlogs and the game is looking really good!
Use of the eastward soundtrack is much appreciated.
The bosses are looking cool so far as well!
Eventually, multiplayer would probably be a hard, but great thing to add. I can just imagine it now, streamers and other people 1v1ing each other and tournaments etc
This is genuinely inspiring.
Wow this is looking promising! Great Job Ponty! Definitely going to buy it.
All looks cool 👍
Good luck to you dude ✊😎
Great video ponty ! your videos quality just went insane !
please keep making games! you are really talented and what you have made thus far is really fun and creative. I would love to see more work from you in the future, I love your punchy (no pun intended) vibe
The stomp animation looks great! in general the visuals look awesome
Yo! Punch A Bunch looks awesome! It’s wild that this is your first game. I can’t wait to play it myself once it comes out!
Really loved the video ponty thank you so much for this amazing content ❤️
nice style, nice effects ,looks apealing, great job
Congrats on 100K !
Well done. Never stop.
You should be proud of your work man, it's an excellent Idea, and your progress has been inspirational ☮️
I've seen lots of devlogs and this one is the one i saw most potential
Great work so far. Really looking forward to picking up a copy on steam. Been a long time since I wanted to play a boxing game. Brings me back to the wii boxing. Thanks for all the hard work.
For the last few days I had not been able to join you in the live streams due to upcomming exams and this devlog really made me happy! Good work Ponty, and hey! The Viking looks EPIK!
God its bizarre seeing this so close to the finish line already. Definitely gonna be a day one purchase, thank you Mr. Ponty :D
