3 mins 18 seconds is the highscore to beat! How fast did you SMASH the TITAN?
Oh and which other devs should we invite to take part in this sort of challenge?
jonas tyroller or if dani if avialable
Dani
Jonas Tyroller if he isnt to busy with his new game xD
Nicky B from IHeartGameDev
BMo please, he is a creative genius!
I still think everyone should be able to react to the final game and contribute their thoughts about the game. It would add a little extra to the video
Yeah! Let all of them play and record their reaction and opinion after.
100%
Totally
Agree
Yes! The end feels rushed, it would be nice to get reactions from those involved and see what their first experience is like playing through the finished product.
i like how tarodev was just like, yeah lets just change the entire game into a shooter
He’s built different
he made it more fun though imo
Yeah hes cracked!
😂 Love that man
Yeah, but it actually turned out better. He actually introduced an end goal / loop. There were no winning condition before, not even a reason to play.

I think the instructions to the devs should allow for a 20-30 minute window to hop in the game and get a sense of it before the 4 hour window starts, this way they are developing for 4 hours and not spending some of that time just trying to figure out what it is.
I agree! Although "figuring out what someone's code does" is also a part of development :)
it seems to me that they are allowed the time to play the game beforehand and then their time starts when they want
Ya, you don’t want them to feel time pressure to not explore the entire game and miss out on important stuff.
Would also help to make sure none of them go in there and completely change the games concept
@@Darknova67 Isn't that part of the fun, having devs misinterpret elements in their own interesting ways?
Taro actually made that many changes in 4hours ? Jesus he's cracked af
Tbf it seemed like he was the most comfortable working in 3d and stuff like the movement script wasnt written on the spot. Very impressive nonetheless he definitely did a great job
Well he just added many of their own pre-made assets in, not from scratch so it's understandable
To be fair that's kind of what you wanna be doing regardless: keep all of your scripts from all projects somewhere to use them in later projects. And to be honest I still don't do that, I have literally 24 different movementcontrollers for 3d alone, let alone 2d.. This video showed the power of that a little bit.
@@Sakros yea designing things in a reusable way is definitely the goal for bigger things like movement system and stuff like that :)
He is. Absolute legend
I love how Tarodev just came in and said "nah this game needs to be more brutal, ima change everything"
He basically said “This is cool but it needs more blood like everywhere”
And made the factory useless
Literally the worst.
@@WhiskeyFiend so you hate Noah too right
@@-Seek-17is impresive in the tecnical aspect after all it did all in 4 hours in the aspect of working on a bigger project with what the other did he is garbage
I feel like in all of these videos there's always one person thats like "nah I dont like this" and scraps a bunch of other people's work
You should two loops. Would be fun to see people see what everyone else did and add a second pass
This is the best suggestion if you ask me. Its like Telestrations
i would hate to see my work get removed by another dev and probably end up removing their stuff in retaliation.
this is probably how that suggestion would turn out.
they should be given more time especially since you can waste a lot of time bug fixing other peoples work and contributing almost nothing. which seems to happen every one of these dev challenges.
@@darkshadowsx5949 That or its a rule that you do not remove any core aspects of the game. It should always be refine, refine, refine. Thats the only way you are going to up the quality.
@@iceman10129 I mean tbh no core aspects were really removed, it just went from a slow passive defense progression to a proactive combat progression, he didn't keep everything the first and second dev had but he still kept some elements, the building mechanic was still there, the resource mechanic was still there, he gave a reason for the blood to exist, he improved on the combat mechanic. he didn't really do anything that made the game less fun and arguably just added things that turned the game from something you play once and think its alright to a game that you might play a couple times trying to get a better score.
It'd be sick to see one of these go two rounds through everybody
Oh yeah, imagine a game takes a total time of a week or so to complete, everyone gets 3 rounds of the game, everytime seeing what everybody else did. I think that would also be fun.
Taro could complete change it 3 times in a row lol
@@rustywrx This is why i need to see it
I'm really hope they don't his. I'd love to see the finished project above a 5 minute type game. At the very least, I would like to see how much it would change.
could you image adding things to the game just to see them removed by taro? he has no teamwork skill and took over the whole project.
Amazing how it turned into an actual game! 😅 So cool to watch what everyone did. Thanks so much for having me on! Cheers! ^.^
Thanks for joining Ponty!
You're a champion Ponty, would love to see you in more of these
It’s nice seeing you get a lot of recognition from other creators! I really love your content and I hope you make more!
Love you Ponty!
It hurt so much at the end seeing the whole home building tower defense game destroyed for a boss battle game at the very end
Yeah
@@themechanic9974 I really liked the research and waves that could have put in the game
Yeah I don’t know why people are praising him from changing it to a generic boss game. This reminds me of the horror game they were making and that developer at the end literally changed everything to make it a boss shooter.
I fully agree
The game would have been nice if tarodev didn’t ruin it
Weird, everyone seems to be praising what Tarodev did, but he completely changed the game and undid alot of work that almost everyone before him did - the stone and gold became almost entirely pointless, and it lost all creativity and replayability and just became a super simple boss speedrun...
I was thinking this too, the only buildings that matter are the grinder and titan destroyer, the rest are useless now.
This was just extremely selfish imo and it looks like there is now a lot less to do, all cuz Tarodev wanted a fast paced game.
Now the gameplay actually looked boring, watching this guy just run around and shoot enemies into the sky.
Yeah i kinda hated what he did
It became better in the end tho
Yea, the meat grinder and throwing enemies into it is a cool idea in a vacuum, but def not for this project. kinda ruined it tbh.
@@capitalcrossant6024 no it didn’t. It became a 3 min slasher game instead of something more tactical.
I'm so happy to see Ponty in this video. I've been watching him for about 2 years now and seeing him teaming up with everyone to work on this game is just amazing.
Same
Yes i, was so happy to hear. He made me go into gamedev.
same :)
Same, glad to see him collaborating with other creators!
A great dev indeed
I would love to know what #2 and #3 thought of all their work being thrown in the trash.
Tarodev is good but I have a feeling he wont be invited again.
you do know the whole point of the video is they didn't know eachother's intentions
@@Drixitty Everybody else seemed to understand their intentions fine
I'm from the future... it keeps happening...
@@bruhmomentum9560
He was invited again and he did great actually. He took the absolutely brutal criticism of everyone here very well and learned from it.
it went from a game where you defend ur town to the buildings being removed
I definitely liked the game when the goal was research. It gave an incentive to place walls and it made towers unique. I like the grinders and blood systems, but I think that the titan is just not as fun as the original more endless approach.
honestly though it could've been worked upon like in the game you the player are clearly pretty large, similar to the titan, so someone might've been able to build upon this by making a mini story where you the player are a friendly giant that has decided to help people by helping with the construction of the town, however then the this much more sadistic giant calling himself titan came along and wants to kill the villagers and you the player are trying to stop him, HOWEVER TARODEV REMOVED THE HOUSES FROM THE GAME so none of the future devs had any idea of what was built before tarodev because it was removed instead of being left in to, hopefully, inspire someone else to build upon it
@@rocketblaster8701in all fairness, the devs before him made it seem as if you could only have 1 house which was doing research, therefore it goes from a game where you build a town and defend it to a game where you have one house you wall in and surround with towers
I love how dark this got. :D
True ;D! Sacrificing harmless meat bags to smash a titan. Not too bad.
This reminds me of improv - The key element of which is to always say "Yes, and -" so that you can continue to build off a scene. In improv you never want to say no to an idea. But TaroDev said no to a few key elements the other developers added... which would be fine if it were his own project but for a collab like this shouldn't have happened. For as great of a developer as I am sure he is... erasing others work shows a lack of adaptability and inefficiency within a team dynamic
The problem is there wasn't much united vision before Taro and was too passive. No end point as research had no point for the player. No conflict no game no fun. All games makes conflict against something. Lona brought about a too aimless feature for others to follow.
I would've liked to know what would be the end product would be but without Taro game would lack too much.
@@temkin9298 think that problem is solved by giving people more time to work on the game and instead of one session it loops through each dev twice
This is the only comment with constructive criticism that’s crazy it’s not just saying “taro bad! he did bad!” It’s actually giving advice to him instead of just saying he did something wrong I thank you good sir
wouldve been cool if you guys had the boss spawn after the research is over
It's fascinating to see everyone's approaches. Thanks for orchestrating this!
Would love to see two teams start with the same core concept that you provide and see what they do with it.
Great job all! Flippin Vampire Tarodev extracting blood lol. Fun video to watch keep these coming!
RED NECTAR
I love this Video concept.
I think it would be cool if you lenghten this process and give every dev 2 times the Chance to polish like : first dev - 2 - 3 -4 - 5 -6 - first again - 2 - 3 -4 - 5 -6.
Hey! Thanks so much. A mega edition with 12 developed is in the making 💪
perfect
@@Blackthornprod PLEASE
@@Blackthornprod Two chances would still be nice!
He probably meant that 6 get a second round, not 12 devs with one round.
Love your Videos, also appreciating the effort put into the video itself , and the ideas behind it
that was so epic and inspiring as someone who's really invested in game design and devlopment in the last month. I gotta say for the video it would have been really fun for all of the devs who didn;t see the final form to see how it looks like in the end.
You guys blow me away with all of this !!
Fabulous collaboration 👏👏👏👏
The problem with no communication is that you have an idea, but when the 5th dev came in, he changed the game to be more about grinding blood and defeating titans. The original game was more about tower defense and protecting a village. There was no balance, and so much was scraped.
Still amazing at the end. However, it would be better if it kept more aspects of the tower defense.
It would be really cool to have 10 or even 20 developers working on a game.
It amazing that you guys are so consistent with these games. I woudn't mind seeing Miziziziz and TanTan on these, because I feel like they are very committed to these types of challenges.
Some changes that would make this better:
- Increase the time it takes for the Titan to spawn
- Bring back the research meter
- The blood harvester and canons cannot be built until research is at 100%
would be nice to see dev reactions what they've got in the end
This looked like a fun challenge noah. It was a blast watching what lana did to the game in her part, as well as the others. turned out great.
This whole series has really been a joy to watch. Great work, everyone!
Hi, I haven’t seen any of ur Videos in a while, but I just wanted to say thank you. Your probably the reason why I got really into coding like 3-4 years ago, when I was 16. Now I’m 19 and study CS. Time flys by pretty fast.
What a great result! So cool seeing which devs added what (but also made me nervous as I may have yeet'd some of them).
It's the name of the game ;D!
So glad you are involved in these. Its great to watch everyone's styles smashed together
Taro my man… It’s always fun watching you make game… 🧙♂️
Love what you added to the game, I think it needed a bit of a brutal element to it.
@@anthonychase7012 🙏
It's so impressive that these games always end up with a cohesive style and gameplay. Always a joy to watch ☺️
These videos are so cool! We definitely need more!
I know it would need a lot of people, but it would be fun to see this project become like a tree, where after each dev finishes two different devs continue, and then we can see how different each branch became
That would be so cool!
In order for tarodev to receive redemption he needed to implement a unicorn. I’m disappointed.
No joke, I had it in the back of my mind. I almost put it in my video as a cameo 🤣
These videos are so good, I've literally been binging them this week
Such a great video concept- really enjoyed it! Subscribed
Tarodev just hoped in and started to just change the entire game
You spelled “ignoring the main part of the challenge” wrong.
@@realGBx64 as in? the challenge is to "Pass the game" and he did just that, you just hatin' for no reason
@@realGBx64 you can't accept that tarodev just made the game 10x more fun
@@gserendipity sure no official rules were broken, as there were none. He was being a dick by ignoring the game concept and basically just did what he felt like. If you want to make your own game that’s fine, but then don’t pretend to play this game of making a game *together*. I think that detracts from the video.
@@gserendipity lol, no. But I came here to watch how people creatively build on each other’s work, instead of you know, what Tarodev did. Also, what is “fun” is subjective, and unlike you, I understand that. What tarodev did was missing the point of the challenge (part of the challenge is cooperation without communication).
I love this format of video so much - it is so inspiring to see how quickly it can evolve from one person to the next. If you could persuade Thomas Brush to take part in one that would be fab
Incredible, everyone did very good this time around and the speedrun aspect was a smart final touch.
I read a comment asking about putting other devs reactions to the final product in and i 100% agree (if they have the spare time of course).
I’m sure everyone would agree a longer video is worth it but even if you wanted to a specific duration, you’re an amazing editor and that shouldn’t be a problem :)
I love this format The Most! Really cool! Thanks and Keep it up!:)
btw, 2m 21s, though I kept dying several times:D
I kust keep loving these 'Pass the Game' devlogs!
Always look forward to these videos!
Very glad to hear that!
For Christmas you should do a white elephant kind of thing where each dev makes a demo for a game. Then everyone gives a short description of their demo, then you choose which game you want to code on. And at the end everyone gives their game to someone else to keep.
The "tower defence idea" was completely scrapped by that guy
I found your channel today, and I am blown away by the effort and skill in these projects. These games look incredible, and are incredibly fun! You guys should consider posting some of your games on steam! Also, what tool do you use when sketching on paper?
love how tarodev legit went in there said "hey this is cool, Lets just add some blood, defeat the whole perpous of the game and put almost all of everybody elses work in the garbage!".
yeah people praise him for it but he stepped over everyone, took away too much, and was not a team player. dick move
@@sipofliquid the whole point of the video i s that you cannot communicate with your group so how can you be a team player
@benzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs Well, some of the developers playtest to see what direction the game is going in and then build on that. They also try to keep the art style consistent
Others just ignore the work of the other devs, make their own thing often completely changing what the game is about. Some of them also just add use their own art style everywhere even if it doesn't fit with the game
Like with the horror game all the devs built on each others work and the game had a clearly defined distinct art style. Then the last dev added a big boss, removed most of the gameplay the other devs had made and made it a basic shooter. He also threw out all of the written story then slapped the blackthornprod art style on everything
It was such a 180° they had to put fake early version of the boss (that never existed before the last dev) to make it seem like it fit
I loved the research version more. Maybe they can make it another game mode in the game?
What a great video!!! Happy to see some of that content
I love these challenges! Always awesome results ;D
I really wished Tarodev did not change the original point of the game. I really liked how it was before he changed everything.
Simpler the idea easier to make it is. Idea too complicated without a clear vision is trash in making. Look up people who give their starting as game dev bios , almost everyone of them tells this "Take simple easy to make stuff then build upon the foundation you have done if it has become too unfun then change it up.
Portal is about portals.
Half life is about fps , momentum, puzzle solving.
Sonic is about speed, exploration, momentum, platforming.
Tower defence genre is protecting something from waves of enemies.
Rarely does a complicated game ever rise to be a good game.
So as everyone has said at some point "keep it simple, don't overcopmlicate it"
@@temkin9298 To be fair it wasn't particularly complicated before his modifications. The only thing he did was modify the goal from filling up a bar to reducing a bar. I definitely think for the amount of time they had though he took the better direction. It's way easier to grasp killing the big boss than it is to research a solution to monsters. It's almost like humans evolved in a world where stabbing the giant thing causing you problems is the more natural solution.
I 100% agree.
"I hope you enjoyed all my new little additions" the additions changes the hole game 9:14
You edited your comment and still misspelled "whole"
@@mattthompson1381 he's beginning to believe
That’s so cool, crazy how the game is going in one direction and then the next person get it and changes the direction completely.
This is cool. I didnt realise i could go into fullscreen until titan had spawned. Thus not being able to WSDA either. So only moving through quick dash.
Solid game! And thanks for allowing us to play it.
I'm forever in awe of how much you all can get done in 4 hours, meanwhile it takes me a whole day/days to get a fraction of this stuff done!
Moral of the story: if you ever start a game dev company, this game of "developer telephone" is perfect for weeding out who will change the game in their own selfish way. As a company manager, you'd want to make sure you get rid of Tarodev first.
this is a good example of constructive criticism!
Nobody can say he's a bad game developer, just not the right developer for the job.
He literally came in and said "I don't like this, in the trash it goes".
Tarodev is almost like a newly hired triple A game exec that on his first day barges in the game dev meeting, look at the next FPS development 1 week away from launch and says "scrap that, keep the guns, rewrite the story, we're making a RGP fanfic furry dating simulator now"
Don't forget to bit Liam too Anna previous video about making a horror game change the entire thing into a lame third-person shooter near the end
I'm not defending him, but ironically, he restored the original vision of the blood diamonds. After all (3:12), they were poorly rendered blood splatters at first 😂
Honestly tarodev does an amazing job when he’s the last one, go watch the latest video. And NOA CANNOT BE AT THE END, he COMPLETELY changed the second to last game they made
What an idiotic take. Good thing you’re not a company manager 😀
Great vid! Such a fun concept!
I like this concept a lot because it shows the style of different developers and how they add their own little touches to the game! It's very cool to see how as a developer to change the game changes in a different direction than the previous developers' ideas.
All the devs really improved on and tweaked previous devs’ contributions, while adding a little of their own. They kept each others ideas and created a product that was the culmination of all of them.
Except Tarodev. He was like “nah let’s change everything these people have already done and rework the entire premise of the game (removing houses and research, making walls useless) cause we need BLOOD”
Too little change if you see what they did as improving slightly Taro at least changed the game and built enough that it can be considered a game.
If the ones before built enough I would say yes Taro f-bombed the premise.
One dev only changed ui in 4 hrs! I would've wanted them to focus on workable improvements.
Houses could help teching up to unlock necessary things.
Trees perhaps would slow the enemies down but given that game looks fps tower defence with no action it is hardly workable.
It is hard making games and usually games start with many ideas clashing and what is considered best ones gets selected for improvement and implementation. With not much time left with no tangible premise Taro at least down greaded the premise to serve something in the end. Bad games cling to much to unachievable or too unfun ideas and achive less than half, best games refine and redefine themselves through planing and experimenting, hlf2 leak is unrecognizable to released one. If you want a quick well implemented game you have a basic premise, 70%(no research) of all games are war or fight games because it is the most simplest conflict there is. Resource management &tower defence game with the end condition of research needs too much dev timea and coordination.
24 hrs game jams are usually with a clean vision and understanding without code reading taking too much time. That's why Tero gets praised.
taro really was like, nah these ideas are shit here a new game in 4hrs xd
for the love of god pls give every dev atleast 24hrs it’ll make the game look more fun to watch and over all just be more entertaining
This spaghetti challenge series is dope, keep makin em
Any plans on looping the challenge? It would be cool for the first developer to continue working on the game after it has been changed so much. This way we also get a chance to see other developers reacting to the change.
Love your videos
A little sad that some are unable to add to the idea without changing it completely. Taro basically erased all the work of previous two devs. Very uncool.
Agree
Not at all he gave purpose to the game
@@kokujins6931 there already was a propose to the game and it was go get 100% research
@@kokujins6931There already was purpose. You were supposed to build research stations and defend them from pillagers until your research maxed out. Taro completely threw all of that out the window. The final product ended up being not even close to the intention of the other devs
But it was more fun to play.
This came out REALLY good
Please do more, this would make a great series. I also found new game Dec youtubers to watch

It would be very entertaining to see how devs talk to one another on the game they co-op-ly created.
Taro is a BEAST.
He always moves the project he takes too far in the right direction.
not in my opinion, he kind of ruined what was special about the game, just recycled the models and destroyed legit everything else that was there. Like he completely changed the game.
@@FRACTUREDFUNGI he makes it fun to play, fun to watch.. and everybody get amazed.
If the first idea wasn't good enough, no one is forcing the developer to stick to it. He can do whatever he wants, and for most ppl he did the right thing (for you he didn't) and this means 90% ppl liked it and that's a big achievement.
Better tgan keeping it not fun enough so you will like it and 70% will not.
And I think what taro added is what makes BTP get excited to the game and publish it, and add speedrun competition.
@@YasserSedrati yeah but he just made a New game without using anything that was there before
@@YasserSedrati I dont think that every single game should follow what the masses wants, and its impossible to tell if 90% of people liked it or not because he didnt stick to the original vision so we've got nothing to compare it to. Theres a timeline where he sees the original idea and sticks closely to it and it ends up with a version that 90% of people like also.
Also you should generally try and collaborate where possible and not run off and do your own thing. Its not as clear cut in this case because theres no communication available and doing your own thing is a part of the challenge/fun, but people shouldn't push for everyone to just do whatever they personally think would make a project better.

Epik challenge must have been really frustrating like a project just came and u have to figure everything out without help. Nice to see pontypants😁✌🏽
It was kind of a bummer when the game was going in one direction, but that one guy entirely changed all of the goals and the point of the game. What happened to researching and protecting your base? If I had been one of the people who worked on the game before he got to it, I would've been pretty disappointed to have my stuff overrided like that
It was a really cool game in the end though.
I just want to say the character Lana created looked really nice. But it looked freaking amazing once they made it into the titan character. Whoever did the animations were really on point.
Awesome!! Very good job doing it!!
I like the speedrunning bit at the end would love to sea more of it
Kinda sucks that Tarodev just got rid of everyone else's work and made his own thing. He pretty much reset the entire thing and it turned from 6 devs making a game, into 1 dev making a game, and 1 polishing it. This made the video somewhat pointless as it pretty much destroyed the idea of seeing the game evolve.

This is so great consept! Please make it 6 hours per dev.
This is turning out to be a great great series, i’d love to see Thomas Brush on the next project!
Tarodev: man this is so cool, these guys clearly had a vision of what they wanted thi.s game to be. I'm going to trivialize all the enemies and make the previous building aspect nearly irrelevant
I don't get it why you mad at him tbh.
Liam is literally the one who made so the player can attack, completly erasing the purpose of a tower defend game.
Because why bother defend the tower if you can just attack the enemy without cost.
Taro saw that, and probably misunderstood the game and thinking it just a game where you need to kill the enemy, so he gave the game objective, by adding a boss.
In my opinion Liam is the one to blame.
@@saaskkehhuciha2949 Yeah I'd have to agree with Saaskkehh on that.
pretty great video! pretty cool to see Tarodev's take on everything and to see the progression of the game, I found that the "tower shooting while placing" bug wasn't corrected, as building a grinder allows you to gather blood without placing it.

Tarodev for the win.
Suggestion add 30-60mins to the next devs allowing them to study the current game progress on top of their actual 4hours.
