I mean I am sad that Vlad had to step away and I appreciated what he brought to the channel. But what Jared has turned this channel into since has been an absolute blast and even improved IMO

Work my bones off each day to get home to an empty flat, cook me something with varying degree of quality based off on how tired I am, and listening to the guy screaming at a microphone hoping that I care about it while I hope that said guy cares about me caring about it.
I do care about you and what you do if it matters, although you've never met me. But this is touted as being parasocial so... I dunno where I'm going with this.

Parasocial relationships aren't necessarily a bad thing, the problem is when they're mistaken for "normal" social relationships. As long as you're aware of the nature of it and don't become too attached, you're doing fine. Keep taking care of yourself. I've never met you but I care about your health and safety.

oh man, i did a run yesterday, I didn't get the white sword until Room 97, it was in a shop. Guess what I get in the next room? The fucking Magic Sword. I made it to Room 137 before dying to Wizrobes.
The game: WHat if we gave them the swords back to back and made one a shop, that'd be hilarious.

It was kind of funny to see you walk all the way to the right to get an item then all the way to the left to leave the room
Something about Jared yelling "YOU SHALL DIE A PEASANT'S DEATH!" really made me smile.
That point where he walked through the old man, it did the oof and the flashing animation, but he didn't take any damage, he still was shy half a heart to full. So at least the maker thought about that bit too. I thought you should never go into the south doors because in the previous game you couldn't walk around the upper half of the screen while something was talking.

@@pixelgoat7317 Was thinking more Cyc Rift and Inkshield. Aetherize is especially nasty to a board of attacking tokens. Insta-salt mine.
What a great idea to mix up the original beloved Zelda. As a proof of concept, this first version of Ancient Dungeon is awesome. With the improvements Jerd mentioned in previous videos, it could be amazing.
I'd love a Link's Awakening/Oracles version of this. I just live that sprite set & usage of items. Granted it might be hard to implement puzzles..

Overworld rooms would be a cool addition. A room full of falling rocks and other enemies could be challenging.
Jared, since you're such a big retro Zelda fan, you should check out Quest Master, it's like Mario Maker but for classic Zelda, it's super good.
Hey Jared, not sure if you've heard but Pokémon Emerald Rogue just got a massive update, literally a 2.0. Here's hoping to get a series or even a stream for a run of the new version.

you can do a run where you only exit the room from the door you entered from.
That would only be interesting if the doors mattered, like rn it's all random so it's nothing special to go through the "same" door over and over.. but if rooms were like other rougelikes (ie you know a room is a shop or tougher battle or whatever) *then* it doing one door runs would have *some* pizazz

The best offense is a good defense
The book really is a double-edged sword, even with the upgrade in this hack. As you've seen, there are enemies that are immune to fire, but they would have taken damage from the magic beam, however when the game processes the hit, it checks if Link has the book and creates the flame before applying the hit to the enemy, thus making them immune to the rod's ranged attack.
Oh heck yeah! I thought this series was done for sure, glad to see it going! :D
3:37 - Like-likes could be a real disaster in this one, if you only find the shield once.
I haven't seen anyone want to avoid the B button this much since those videos with the cursed Pokémon fusions
That last run you're currently doing is if you put all your points into defense.
Well here's an idea I haven't seen anybody do. Since the pols voice was originally killed by the mic in the JP version wouldn't it make sense to add an item like a sound blaster that can kill a pols voice in one shot (but of course kill other enemies too). Whether or not to use an actual mic IRL would be left up to whoever is programming it.

I wonder if Jared knows that Gleeok can be killed with bombs. Still have to get in melee range but you can afford to be more evasive due to the AoE.

I feel like the wand probably could be nerfed a little.
Like, maybe have it also use rupees, or have limited to 5 uses per room. Or even make the Like-likes be able to take whatever item you have equipped along with the shield (not sure if they do something like that already.)
Also, a slightly more in depth score system. I know that's a big ask for an NES hack.

No, it's progression based. You'll always find the white sword before the magic sword
