- Already watched the Amoeba Sisters first video on enzymes and ready to explore a little more? In this video, the Amoeba Sisters cover a few examples of enzymes in the human body before emphasizing that enzymes are found in all the domains of life - and even in viruses! The importance of cofactors and coenzymes are discussed before moving into competitive and noncompetitive inhibitors. Feedback inhibition is also briefly described.

We like to pin important comments to address issues or clarifications in our videos. We promise the read is worth expanding! :) We greatly appreciate a commenter who revealed to us that there is an inconsistency in introductory biology sources for non-competitive inhibition. The peer-reviewed source we like to use as our main factual reference is Openstax where they have "In noncompetitive inhibition, an inhibitor molecule binds to the enzyme in a location other than the active site, called an allosteric site, but still manages to *prevent substrate binding* to the active site." Direct Link: openstax.org/books/biology-ap-courses/pages/6-5-enzymes However, in the popular Biology "Campbell" book used by introductory biology courses, the 11th edition states that the substrate can *still bind* but the "active site functions much less effectively." So which is it? After looking at more sources and conversing with some science communicators online and in a biology group Pinky is in, what we are hearing is that while the non-competitive inhibitor alters the enzyme's conformation, sometimes the substrate *can* still bind - and sometimes the substrate *cannot* bind - it depends on the non-competitive inhibitor type and enzyme. Thus, focusing on the binding can be problematic since substrates may still bind so we have now included this sentence *"if the substrate still binds, the enzyme's active site might not function well. Or at all."*
Can you please recommend a book in Biology (zoology to be precise). I have taken the Campbell bio 7th edition and it was quite interesting !
Hello @AmeobaSisters! Your videos helped me alot during my home-education. I watched most of your videos and I understand the topics better. I know that you both have you own children and you are still working hard to making these videos. Are you going to continue to make videos on Advanced biology (College Level), or do you think you might need to have a break before coming back to making videos? I don't want to push you to much, but if you could, it would be great :)
Ok you are a good channel but why is it that its called amoeba sisters when it is only one talking and not two
Just take out purple
besties, please make a video on centrioles and microtubules, its so confusing pls
Can y’all make videos more often please
Imagine taking Biology in college and the Amoeba sister is more useful than a college book.

uni student here, my bio professor got fired since he was kind of awful so my in-person class got switched to online, & now i learn everything through your videos. it all makes 200x more sense than anything my old professor said. amazing videos!

Thanks for all of the effort and time you spent into the making of this video! I truly appreciate it : )
Just wanted to come on and say, thank you for these videos!! My biology teacher used your videos to help us understand the topics she thought us and you two have really helped me pass my biology class 💜
i love you guys fr doing this. i went to a public school that didn't teach biology and i am now an adult falling in love with the topic. videos like yours are what's helping me with some huge gaps i have in my knowledge. thank you thank you thank you!
Another concept clearing video. Thank you so much sisters 🥰🥰🥰
Hi sisters, I just wanted to let you know that your videos have helped me so much. You have made me realize that learning really can be fun. My grades have improved and so has my love for you guys. Thanks so much for your help!!
I was wondering about enzymes since I saw your other enzyme video so thank you for the elaboration
I love it when you guys put out a new video.
I'm watching this not for school but for how fun you guys make science. Keep doing what your doing! ❤❤
The Amoeba sisters have made learning biology so much more fun for me. Thank you!!!
you're literally my saviour yt channel
My interest in Biology Is because of You, Thank You!!!
your way of explaining is very good and it makes the complicated topics more easy to understand
you made such complex concepts easy and fun. it's natural that we'll stay curious. and thanks for spreading knowledge..♥
This really helps me! Thx Amoeba Sisters!!😀
Wow! This is the first video I've watched that is very recent (just 1 month ago). All of the videos I've watched from this channel were way back 3-5 years ago and I'm very happy that until now, this channel is still active! ✨ Keep it up Amoeba Sisters! You have helped me get through this online/modular class amidst pandemic. I'm currently in the 12th Grade and by next year, I'm going to graduate from my Senior High and take another step further into College! I will still go back here to your channel because I will take a Biology Course! 🦋 If I graduate from my college and become a doctor of any type, I promise that I will again comment here or any of your videos! I'm reaching my dreams and you're one of the stepping stones that will help me through it! God Bless 💖
I was really confused about what feedback inhibitors are until I watched this video. Now it makes sense. Thank you!!
I waited along for this video only from amoeba sisters animation make me easier to study the basic concepts
, Thank you so much ....it's too helpful for making short notes.
A GREAT video for helping to explain regulation of cell processes. This is Advanced Placement Biology content all the way, but it is also still very useful for general bio. Outstanding explanations! This helps my students a lot! Sincere Thanks!
I wanted to thank both of you from the core of my heart! Since, the time I came across your channel - I began to fall in love with Biology! It helped me a lot in my junior years and currently the videos are helping me as a middle schooler as well! The videos has inspired me to go beyond the books and my curriculum!
Thanks a lot - I am from Japan (13 years :) )
you have taught me way more than what my bio teacher could have taught me in the past 1 year!
Today i started reading enzymes, and you uploaded this video 😁What a timing 😎

Oh! I just found your channel, my highschool biology teacher shows us your vidoes about membranes and plant cells, animal cell, all that stuff that I will forget in my adulthood
These videos are going to put me and all other biology teachers out of a job! Or rather, competitively inhibit our usefulness. Still though, they're incredible and I would do my students a disservice by not sharing them! Thanks, Amoeba Sisters!
Thank you for making this awesome videos
i´m a med student and these videos help me A LOT
finally a funny way of learning... i´ve get an F from the feedback inhibition, cause I had no idea what it was, I thought it´s complicated as hell, but thanks to you I discoverd it´s not that bad.. I owe you my future degree :DD

i have no reason to watch this video besides the super cute animation.
so i watched it.
POV your Bio teacher can’t teach you this in a hour and a half class period, but this video can in 8 minutes
i still come back to these as a college student
Great job 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
A conversational tone helps to teach very well sometimes in tandem with literary, detailed level textbooks 😄
I just realized,,, I got rickrolled at the end 💀
but anyway, thx you for your videos!! I have the bio EOC in a few days and your videos are better than out crusty textbooks.

I have been hoping that you guys will make a video on these topics. You guys are soooooo Awesome. Thanks So much 😎👏.
