I am a lead guitarist & vocalist for my band Mukt here in Ahmedabad. We have met about 4-5 times in Mumbai and Ahmedabad at the IO gigs I've attended. I've been a huge Indian Ocean fan and it's music has played so much in shaping my musical sense in my intital years, but no song gets older for me, they are always what I've been expecting.
Being a guitarist, filling in anf fitting into Susmit Sen's guitar playing is a real tough task as he is such a genius. His playing in songs like Torrent hits me so hard with all the 'feel' each note carries. But, you have done so good work in the formation of the 'New Indian Ocean' lineup that we see now. Your sound makes such an impact for all the newer songs. Using drive/distortion tones, riff based songs, amalgamation of carnatic, hindustani & rock styles and still keeping the feel lf IO alive is something that is really interesting in the newer songs.
Speaking about the video series, I've loved watching all the 3 episodes. They're new to me, kind of reveals the actual phrases of the parts that I've just 'heard' until now in songs, really good job. Some suggestions would be - increasing the length of videos, more revalation of the gear, guitars(infact the kind of guitars you have, the specs of those guitars), your rig, your previous musical acts, your musical inspirations, etc.
    Thanks :)

Thank you for this detailed feedback. Will plan to do some gear videos in the future, though I personally don't find the gear aspect of guitar playing all that interesting! I wanted to reach the non-guitar playing audience of the band as well, which is why I deliberately restricted the length and technical content of these videos. But planning to record some more videos for new songs coming up next year, I'll do a bit more detailed breakdowns for those songs. Thanks for watching.

Great video as usual. This series is just what we wanted. A more of guitar talks and solo, riffs decoding would really add more to these wonderful videos.

Hi Nikhil, This is a great video sir, I got to know about you from Koco's Channel, Rahul Ram and Koco were discussing how talented a guitar Player you are. Your performances on terrace and those parties.
I really liked the stuff where you were explaining the resolution to a particular note, coming back again and again to that particular note, Correct me if I am wrong but that is the concept of MODES in guitar theory right? We would like to hear more about this stuff and how you approach towards a song, Do you write the melody first or the lyrics is written before.
How you decide what scale will be used. The thinking behind borrowing chords from other scale.
No words for the tandanu sir, Great piece of art. I am Thankful to hear such a brilliant stuff from you guys.
Sharing these videos with all my Peers.

Keep it coming. great for first time learners like my brother in law ramani who started learning music on harmonium and vocals and now just getting to strum... All this starting after age 64! nikhil your conversations are so helpful. can you do a piece comparing nuances of mohan am. .so soothing a ragam?

Thank you for your message. I'm not qualified enough to outline Mohanam! Focusing on Indian Ocean songs for the first few weeks, but I'll try doing some Carnatic ragams in future videos :)

Working on transcribing Shankar's part. 6 month goal 👀😬

Good luck! The fact that Shankar came up with all those 6 month project parts in a few minutes right in front of our eyes is spine chilling, bone curdling etc.

Nikhil Rao yeah. 6 months is assuming I gain the powers of Aleif Hamdan. Lifetime worth of stuff there. :)
